Praised be the Lord, though we know not why

Founded in 2010 by the charismatic preacher, Pastor Flower, with only a handful of followers, the Church of the Permanently Bemused has gone from strength to strength. These days it is standing room only in the little village hall of Bonking On The Heath, where the squashed devotees hang on the Pastor’s every word.

Wilton Flower was born into a devoutly religious family, his father being an elder of the Jehovah’s Presbyterian Baptists -a particularly evangelical sect- and Elder Flower saw to it that his son was schooled most rigourously in the ways of the Bible. By the age of sixteen the budding young Flower had bloomed into a magnetic and captivating preacher in his own right and become something of a celebrity within the church. But, despite enjoying this popularity, Wilton became increasingly troubled by a seed of apprehension growing in the back of his mind.

Although Flower had always accepted and embraced the words of the sacred book, he had also become increasingly aware of the irrationality of them and he started to think more and more about what that might mean. Then, one crisp winter’s morning, just two weeks before his twenty first birthday, it came to him in a startling flash of insight: It didn’t mean anything. This changed everything for Flower and the truth lay before him like a path of pure light; the source of enduring faith in the Lord was to be found in his very implausibility. The more the improbability of God, the greater the proof of his existence.

Flower now set forth with unstoppable zeal. He buried himself in all the writings of Richard Dawkins he could lay his hands on and emerged with a faith so unshakeable it made the old Elder Flower look like an atheist, by comparison. There was no turning back now and within just five years the movement had grown into something to rival The Pious Shepherds of the Bleak Moorlands of the North, a nearby sect made up predominantly of intellectually challenged but sincere members of the hill farming community.

The uninitiated observer might find the service at the Church of the Permanently Bemused somewhat unconventional. Once the congregation is in place and settled, Pastor Flower emerges from behind a screen, known as the Curtain of Misunderstanding, and, in a raised voice, asks the gathered flock, “what do we believe?” To which, in response, comes a mass shrug along with the reply, ....“don’t know”. dunno

Then the words, “why are we gathered?” dunno

What is our mission?” confused

On completion of the short opening ritual it is straight into twenty minutes of hymn singing, a particular favourite being, “Give us no clue, Lord, we’d rather not know.” The service always ends with the Pastor delivering a short sermon, although even just ten minutes of listening to someone droning on about nothing in particular, regardless of how much charisma they may have, can seem much longer.

Faith

`` Sometime you have to pray many times for the same thing, not because you have to get God's attention, but because God wants to see your faith ``teddybear

So you encounter someone here....

...communicate, and think there is something, but he/she lives a million miles away.

I think it´s all too difficult to maintain or pull off in most cases, and therein lies the question, are International dating sites a good thing or not?

Are we being hoodwinked here? Is it the impossible which attracts us and which makes these sites so successful and ongoing? dunno

Is It wrong

Is it wrong to live a lie when someone tells you what you want to hear but what they are doing tells the real truth but you just want so bad to believe and their words but in your heart know it is all just a lie

Yesterday was the greatest day ever!

When I was 5 years old, I thought planes, tanks, warships and guns were the coolest thing ever. Things that can blow other things up and make a lot of noise at the same time? Hell yes!

This has never really left me, and yesterday cemented that - firmly!

Currently, there is a NATO exercise called Steadfast Defender 24, and it involves 90.000 troops from all the 32 countries of NATO. Denmark is participating with 1200 troops. Recently, news broke here in Denmark, that American material would arrive in the small airport in Roskilde, where it'll be shipped back home to the USA.

Some of that material flew over my residence yesterday, namely Chinooks and Black Hawk helicopters.

That sight was the single coolest thing I had ever seen in my 39 year long life. The level of sound the helicopters were making was insane. They were 1000 feet above me, and my desk had a slight vibration when they flew over me.

I had the pleasure of seeing these things twice yesterday, and once today.

It brought the inner 5-year old out of me. I also posted a video of it to Instagram, with the caption "Sick!"

Because it was!

Love and charity

“Without dew and light, flowers fade. Charity and love are the dew and light of the human heart.”
De Gentis

Every day on my way to work or home, I pass so many displaced people. They would stand at traffic intersections. Sometimes I wonder where everyone precipitously comes from.

I live in South Africa as all of you might know by now. And our past dictated that white South Africans were rich and wealthy. It was the black South Africans that were destitute and begging at intersections. Suddenly the subtleties have changed, a lot. Now I see so many white people, men, women, children and even the elderly begging for money and food.

It is sad to see the rows of cars passing by all of them and even turning a blind eye to these people’s predicament. My heart bleeds for them, but I also know that helping one every other day doesn’t change their circumstances forever. I look at these mothers and can see a family waiting for her to come home with whatever she could manage to find with the money that was given.

I didn’t grow up in a home where we had extravagances, I don’t know what it feels like to have everything my heart yearns for, but I know that I had and still have a lot more than other people.

Sometimes it’s the tinned food, the clothes and shoes and a hug that is given that makes all the difference in the world. I know it’s a challenging mission to achieve, but ask you kids what they don’t wear, use of need anymore and you and your partner do the same. Gather all of this together and give it to a family that you know is in need. Then take it to them as a family. Don’t just drop it off, but make contact with the people. You’d be amazed to see the gratitude in the eyes of both adults and children alike.

I know it is impossible to change everything, but doing your bit will certainly make a difference.

One Belt and Road Initiative growing stronger

Pakistan’s top court directs central bank to issue funds for snap polls

The parliament had on Thursday (13) ruled it wasn’t possible to spare Rs 21 billion ($74.79 million) in funds for the snap polls, which the court had ordered.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial had summoned officials from the finance ministry, the central bank and the Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) to his chamber on Friday to seek a reply on the funds, warning that non-compliance would have consequences.

The parliament had on Thursday (13) ruled it wasn’t possible to spare Rs 21 billion ($74.79 million) in funds for the snap polls, which the court had ordered.

The court order said the chief justice directed the central bank’s acting governor and the finance ministry to coordinate and “forthwith allocate and release” the money from federal consolidated funds no later than April 17.

China spent £194.97 billion rescuing ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ nations, says study

Argentina was the largest beneficiary, receiving £90.80bn, equivalent to $111.8bn, followed by Pakistan with £39.39 ($48.5bn) and Egypt with £12.67 ($15.6bn)

Countries have received bailouts to extend loans and remain solvent. China claims over 150 countries have joined the trillion-dollar BRI infrastructure initiative launched by President Xi Jinping ten years ago.

According to Beijing, the objective of the initiative is to strengthen friendly trade ties with other countries, especially those in the developing world.

Japan, India, France to announce launch of Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring negotiation process

Sri Lanka confident of Chinese support in debt restructuring: central bank chief

The central bank chief of the crisis-hit South Asian country said Sri Lanka is optimistic of China’s continued support, pointing to how Beijing “did the right thing in giving Sri Lanka financing assurances last time”.

“I think this is probably the first time China has given it that fast,” he said.

With the help of the International Monetary Fund and other partners who also helped share information, said Weerasinghe, the debt restructuring process can continue.

“Obviously China is a country that has been helping Sri Lanka for a long time and [it has[ invested a lot [in Sri Lanka]. [It will be in the] best interest of both China and Sri Lanka to complete this process soon and we can get back to repaying our debt service obligations,” he said.

“Sooner the better for both countries,” he added.

In February, China’s Exim Bank gave Sri Lanka a two-year moratorium on its defaulted loans and said it would discuss additional re-structuring within that ‘window’.

In early March, Sri Lanka secured a 2.9 billion dollar extended fund facility from the IMF after obtaining assurances of support from China.
