A Precious Gift

As we approach Christmas

and exchange gifts with others

there is one gift that we do not need to purchase

Its not in bright wrapping and tied with a bow

but we will still find it below

all we need to do is take it into our hearts

It will not be judgmental, jealous or cold

So share it with all the young and old

The gift of Love is not new but vary old

Challenge

Write me poems about Christmas
can be about past ones
children's christmas story
santa
or anything related to this time of year
let's get some and humour going for this special time of year

example

Jack Frost

Jack Frost laid his hand over the lands
trees now adorned with hoar frost gems
laughing in glee watched people slip
then slide helpless down the slopes.

Bitter cold from his fingers ran
turning the ground rock hard
as icicles grew so very long
the air so brittle it snapped.

Surveyed his domain unsatisfied
and pointed a slender finger
windows now became jammed
locks too now frozen solid.

Yet as the sun rose up high
Jack Frost's work became undone
and back into oblivion he slipped
knowing there was always next year.

TRINI CHRISTMAS ( Shadow's Challenge)

It's painting and baking,
With scents mingling
And chairs varnishing
The cutlery polishing...

Is pork or turkey,
What ever's your fancy
Delivery trucks pulling up to the entry,
Merchants in their glee
As children play merrily...

Neighbors go a-paranging,
Some husbands go a-drinking
Some wives are a-gossiping
About the neighbor's last year curtain...

Sorrel and ginger beer
Black cake everywhere
Pastelles in abundance this time of year
And if we ever see snow, I'll stop and stare
Cuz shucks, we're just in the wrong hemisphere

About this poem:
Well I tried to give a picture of trini Christmas...lol and still feels like I left much out....

A P.S Thanks to Socrates.....

"In Trinidad, traditional parang music is largely performed around Christmas time, when singers and instrumentalists (collectively known as the parranderos) travel from house to house in the community, often joined by friends and neighbours family etc. using whatever instruments are to hand. Popular parang instruments include the cuatro (a small, four-string guitar) and maracas (locally known as chac-chacs). Other instruments often used are violin, guitar, claves (locally known as toc-toc), box bass (an indigenous instrument), tambourine, mandolin, bandol, caja (a percussive box instrument), and marimbola (an Afro-Venezuelan instrument). In exchange for the entertainment, parranderos are traditionally given food and drink: pastelle, sorrel, rum and "Ponche Crema" (a form of alcoholic eggnog)."

Black cake - the main ingredients are fruits (such as raisins and sultanas) that have been soaked in cherry wine, sherry and Caribbean rum for several months before Christmas. Additional rum is poured over the cake after it has been baked.
It can even make one "drunk" if eaten in large amounts.

King of Christmas * Shadow's Challenge *

My wishlist for Christmas?...That Christ lives within us...
Though I am a bit saddened, my sins have worn thin...
Therein lies the truth, how could truth be a lie?
It can't, it's within, every pore of His skin....

A Christmas Snow------monorhyme

A Christmas Snow

The soft snow flakes fall gently coating
the land, which to white is turning.
Trees brushed white stand gleaming
as Christmas dawns with sunlight bursting.

A hush settles as people start stirring
emotions high, children in the snow delighting.
Soft and pristine white as the wind sets it flurrying
its touch a whisper as it brushes cheeks now settling.

Magical flakes of pure white glistening and sparkling,
while icicles translucent adorn trees decorating
their branches and trunks with colour reflecting.
The people filled with awe as Jesus they are welcoming.

Presents

What would I want to have if there were no limits on me?
Santa would have a majic sack to give them all for free
A new porsche would be great
Along with a daily meal of steak
A round of golf anywhere on the planet each week
My own jet that would be sleek
A end to any kind of work
No more hanging out with a boss for a jerk
Skiing in Switzerland would be nice
Having my own studio where I could carve some ice
Friends to play video games with me
They would even want to go ski
A girlfriend who is nice and hot
She would be excited to get what I've got
Peace, love, and joy would be my daily feeling
Away from me hate, jealous, and fear that keeps me reeling
Lonliness would be a thing of the past
As well as perfect teeth that would last and last
The ability to eat anything without consequence
The desire to live free and take a chance
The ability to dance any dance
An endless supply of money
And a woman to wake me up by saying "I Love You Honey!"

About this poem:
The list is endless. I got a newspaper on Thanksgiving and it weighed five pounds. Advertisements for an endless shopping list of great deals. The only thing that left me feeling empty, besides the materialism, was having people work on Thanksgiving.

Holiday Wishes To You And Yours

Holiday Wishes To You And Yours

When the first true cold winds began to blow,
autumn soon shifted, and the first frost came.
Complaints for summer’s end were often heard,
but the year went by too fast, all the same.

So time to unpack the cold weather gear,
and yes, turn our thoughts to the holidays.
We all shall gather around the table,
to count our blessings these past weeks and days.

There’ve been challenges for many of us.
We bow our heads for each answered prayer.
We share and we speak to those we have lost.
We set a place for those who can’t be here.

May we raise a glass and offer good cheer.
May we light a candle and not forget,
all the dear ones who make life worth living.
And so speak with kindness and not regret.

May we all join hands and then our hearts,
never letting go of the peace we feel.
This is the season of faith and magic;
the LOVE we share and a God blessed meal.

A time to ponder all that is sacred;
the condition of our beliefs and soul.
A time to forgive and release with joy,
all that would prevent us from being whole.

Thank you Lord for every single blessing.
My life is a gift you hold in your hand.
When I have done what I am meant to do,
I will walk with you and I’ll understand.

Bless Us All That We Walk In Love
Ever Hand In Hand

Dear Santa

Maybe I should ask for a dog

after all they are loyal, protective

loving and a good companion

They never talk back and expect so

little in return just food and shelter

and a little love in return

What more could I ask for

Christmas Star

In Bethlehem on Christmas Eve there shone a mighty star
To guide the three majestic kings who traveled from afar
The object of their searching was a child born that night
Whose birth in a dreary manger stall belied his holy light

And now on Christmas Day we’ve come to celebrate His birth
And give our thanks to what He’s wrought upon this planet Earth
So join our merry band this day, and sing a cheerful song
That we may rest our hearts and souls, and perhaps to sing along

Christmas joy

As I walk along the streets
All I see and hear
Are little boys snd girls with their scarfs and mittens
screaming with Christmas joy
They see Santa sitting on his sleigh
Rainderrs in tow
Christmas carolers
Seeing merrily
While standing under the beautiful christmas tree
The young and old laughing so joyfully
Holding hands stealing kisses
I can't help but smile
That was me not long ago
Skipping down the streets merrily
Here's wishing all of you
A very merry Christmas
Filled with much love, peace and joy !
