Disoriented

Sleeping the sleep of the blessed
The day's hard lobour and struggles has ended
There's no cause to worry the conscience is free
Still the subconscious is active and alert
Tomorrow it happens start all over again
Suddenly awakening in a panic
Peering outside everywhere is clear and bright
Promising oneself once again to buy an alarm clock
Even if it cost a fortune and it's the last thing you do
rush rush rush
For you dare not miss the bus and it comes at 5:00 am
Just now there's so much to get done
The husband, the children, the animals "Oh LORD please help"
Finally you are at the bus stop and can catch your breath
But wait something is not just right
Something is missing
The roosters are crowing as usual
This indicates daylight is near
The usual early morning scenes and activities
They are not there
Look up to the sky the moon is ever so bright
A familiar watchman passes and ask "why are you so early"
It's only 3:00am
Oops!!! fooled once again by the moon's light

Country Man Life

Wake up early this morning to make breakfast
The strength it give all day have to last
Cook up some ackee and salt fish
This they say is the national dish
Roast some breadfruit to go with cooked green bananas
Unsure in his mind whether to drink hot coffee or chocolate
Either one, both are grown in his backyard
He has no need t buy in the market

No time to make a fancy lunch
Still he need something on which to munch
Throw a piece of yellow yam in the fire
And as much green corn as he desire
Wash these down with some coconut water
This will have to keep him until later
Working all day in the broiling sun
This road to prosperity is no fun

But when dinner time comes
Now he can relax and sit down
Rice is far too light and for a working man not right
What is needed is some heavy food to last through the night
Yam and dumpling have to be in the pot
These have to be eaten while they are still hot
Plus he never forget to have a supply of salt meat
For he must balance his diet

The working is ended but it is still too early for bed
Time for friends and dominoes and the good old white rum
Remembering it's mid week so avoid falling off the rum tree
Whenever he lies down he want to sleep the sleep of the dead
Hoping not to have another nightmare
Or any bad dream that cause him to awake with fear
Every tell him that he should get a wife
Sometimes it 's hard to give up the good life

Anywhere Cold As You

Alone in the cold, nothing hurts more than losing you.
The longer I waited, the thought of you slowly became faded.
I dreamt the day you'd appear again, but that's just a reflection inside my head.
It wasn't supposed to be you leaving, for a while it was unbelieving.
I sensed that you craved more, the arguments were hard to ignore.
I'd take a step back, you were always right on my tracks.
I overlooked our past for the sake of what we could still have,
it took me years to know none of it would last.
Sometimes I cry, you tore me down when you said good-bye.
I don't like how we went down in flames,
you always said I was to blame.
I gave you a second chance, I fell in love with you again at first glance.
You abused it, you had a hard time trying to commit.
You found love once more, another girl for you to adore.
You gave her love and a child, it was the first time you truly smiled.
I couldn't stand to see you dolled up in joy,
every woman you get with you destroy.
It's been hard, you've left my heart scarred.
My mind turns, the memory of you burns.
You live and you learn.
I keep close an image of you, one day I'll break down the barrier and push through.
No more blocked hearts, no more broken parts.
You shouldn't have made a promise you couldn't keep,
deep inside I'm becoming weak.
You said you'd given it your all, if you did you wouldn't have let me fall.
I don't trust a word you say, not yesterday and not today.
It was always easy letting you in, you tore apart a cancer and that's your greatest sin.
I admit, this is the hardest thing I've had to do.
One day I'll pursue, something much better than you.
Your ego is immense, eventually it'll all make sense.
You'll realize it's your loss, you let me go and now I'm shining like gloss.

"THE FLIGHT"

The bat is poised to unleash its magnificent fury
As the soon to be punished spheroid prepares to take flight
In the majestic orbit that is both timeless & startling
The hurtling spheroid cuts a perfect arc
As it knifes its way flawlessly through the acquiescent firmament
Sans reflection
Sans protest
Sans regret
It feels the whooshing poetry
Admires its full-bodied trajectory
And can't help emitting its wan smile
In the heart of the battered ball's descent.

About this poem:
Baseball is in full swing right now and I wanted to pay homage to an overlooked important component of the game....the ball

Whether it's Amish children playing baseball in the ballfield adjacent to their one room schoolhouse, 80 year old men playing softball in organized leagues, a parent pitching to a young son or daughter...a ball of some sort is essential.

Therefore, here is a paean that I composed for the baseball, softball, rag ball..or whatever happens to get batted about.

Get Into It

Feel the music go through
you bringing your body to
see the dancing is all for
ME
MOVING
GROOVING
To the beat then letting
it go so all will know
that the beat has got
into you and through you.
It is in your mind.
It is in your soul.
The music makes you feel
like you are one of a kind.
Letting your soul know
that music is the way to go.
Music can let you be
easy and free.
Music can let you be wild
crazy and free.

There Is No Carpe Diem Here

Carpe Diem! Carpe Diem! Carpe Diem!
The world cries out this resounding chant as it hurriedly awakens to tackle the tasks of the day.
But there is no Carpe Diem here
This day, is not to be seized
This day I lay in soft slumber as the morning sneaks through the leaves and the blinds of my window
My eyes flutter open, a soft smile playing on my lips
‘fore I know there is no Carpe Diem here
Here is a day, one of few that I am allowed to waken as slowly as the sun rises
Shuffling to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee, one eye on the sun making sure we keep the same time
As the coffee brews, I slide on my slippers, grab a blanket and take another peak out the window
With coffee in hand, I envelope the blanket around me and venture out into the predawn
There is no Carpe Diem here
Cocooned in the blanket, sipping the freshly brewed nectar I listen
Eyes closed as I relish in the warmth of the early morning suns dappled rays on my face, as they tease between the leaves of the trees where the wind is tickling them to and fro.
The birds are waking, chirps and chirrups saying good morning to me because they know all too well
There is no Carpe Diem here
Relishing the time I am sharing with the waking of the day I sigh deeply, inhaling the morning, exhaling all the worries from the day before
Cup of coffee almost finished; it has become cold as I try to extend my time with the morning
I look up at the wily sun and almost see it winking at me from higher on the horizon
“It’s time now… Go….Carpe Diem!” says the sun
But I coyly smile and wink back
“Don’t you know?” I ask, “There is no Carpe Diem here!”
As I wisp back for one more cup of coffee

Perplexed Flare

This eternal flame that’s blazin’ with glee
Brings thoughts of what could be
Of a tale untold between hearts unfree
Disobedience equates a nifty fee

This flame that flickers oh so brightly
Envisages a knight so mighty
Of ideas so lurid and unworldy
Never knowing if the cause is all worthy

What is there to do
With this flame that gives no clue
Shed some tears quite a few
This tunnel no one can get through

To move on is not an option
So is holding on
Perhaps it is best to wait
And see what’s designed by fate

Attempting and Epically Failing

Amidst the longing for a warm embrace,
From somewhere beyond you keep me company.
Holding on to you like my saving grace,
The force pulling you to me drives me to insanity.

Never have I known I was capable of this
Reluctance and fear that constantly grow
But with sheer brilliance and bliss
Spark a new bubbly and radiant glow.

Painting my life ever so green
Your hands entwined with mine
As we walk the path we've been
Creating a mood so sublime.

But all this has to end
For hallucinating does me no good
Rules and principles that I would bend
Emotions left cluttered and so brood.

Yes, dreaming is nothing but false hope
Yet, despite the unimpressive strife,
Amok and distress beyond scope
It keeps me on to survive this life.

Chick on the stump

I swept along
a no gathered pass
She shrilled from the stump
I layed my blanket down

He loved
what we heard
I did too

As we ate

Love

Carpe Diem Soulgoddess Challenge..

A New Day Dawning..
Author: QuietStormF
A New Day Dawning

My heart did flipflops in the predawn light
Filled with such a sense of calm
I knew not from whence it came
Sunlight danced majestically upon the placid lake
Stirring in me feelings I had long ago buried
Neath the rubble in my mind
As I sat transfixed, slowly sipping coffee from a steaming mug
I lazily drank in the sounds of a new day dawning
Slowly awakening from it's twilight slumber
I could not move , did not want to move
From this new place where I was bathed in such serenity
Had it really been here all the while?
As I pondered this thought, I heard a rustling in the wind
Calling to me , heeding me to seize this day
For it will never come again .
