Pen to Paper

Picked up this pen to let my emotions flow down through,
Only to have the ink rush out onto the paper like emotions do.
Then I watch helpless as the ink comes into shape and form,
Words that I would describe me all together like a perfect storm.
I look down at my hand as the final drip of ink falls down,
As I rise from the chair looking for the person making me a clown.
Only to find myself alone at a table set for two in a empty place,
Walking away from the paper the ink forms the words Empty space.

Prince and Michael Jackson

Prince and Michael Jackson
Both were awesome artists from the best decade in music
The 1980's
Michael started out on top with his Thriller album
Prince came out with Purple Rain
Both have some awesome songs
Prince's When Doves Cry
Michael's Billie Jean
Both were Jehovah Witnesses
I was approached by one on a walk this week
I researched some of their beliefs
They don't celebrate birthdays or holidays like Christmas
They don't vote
I think Michael did celebrate birthdays and give presents
I don't know if Prince did or not
There is no question which was the bigger influence
Michael Jackson
The 80's wouldn't have been the same without them

About this poem:
I have both albums on record. I would say I listened to Thiller more than Purple Rain. I have a hard time picking which songs I liked better. I did like Beat It, Billie Jean, PYT, Wanna Be Startin Something, The Girl Is Mine, and Thriller. I liked When Doves Cry, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, and Darling Nikki off of Prince's Purple Rain album.

Cupid and Psyche how it came about (acrostic)

C omeliest of maidens
Upon your beauty
People stared in awe
It's not surprising
Deep Cupid fell when
Arrow pierced his foot
Now Venus grew angry
Did not like this
Pass in the least
She cursed her
Your fate a monster
Come you to wed
How did Cupid stop this
Easy he told Jupiter
He ordered Venus cease
In peace and harmony
Cupid and Psyche lived
Always will true love win

Whisper of a lovers touch

She stands on the mountain top as far as she can go
Over the edge there is nothing
The quiet closes her in a blanket
The wind lifts her hair and strokes its fingers over her face
Like a lovers touch,
She closes her eyes and lifts her hands to him.
He slips around her body and wraps his breath around her soul
She stands and lets him love her for hours
Smiles and opens her eyes
Sighs
And walks slowly back to the world where she has to be strong again.

Memory Lane (sonnet)

Take a walk today down memories lane
what is it that you remember the most
is it the childhood memories of Spain
maybe the first time you went to the coast

into the waves you ran without a care
dancing and tumbling you played carelessly
drifting out to sea you had a big scare
when saved your mother grasped you tightly

or could it be the day you fell in love
all starry eyed remembering that kiss
like a shooting star falling from above
never had experienced such bliss

memories last a lifetime don't fade
reminiscences can not be mislaid

Misspent Youth

lets reminisce of days gone by
of misspent youth

wild years of drugs and booze
hippy loving days

the wondrous smell within
hits as in you go

hey you there don't hog it
pass it this way

smoke clouds flood the room
as you puff

hubbly bubbly goes the bong
boneless you drift

hearing every note sharp and clear
as it washes over you

Shipley Woods, where Ernie
swore the trees were walking
talking, grabbing out for him
bad trip on that purple heart

ah those were the times
all so grand

of that misspent youth of mine
happy days

Chicago Is My Kind Of Town

You have the buildings
You have the sights
Like Sears Towers now called Willis Tower
108 stories and 1,451 feet tall
You color your Chicago River Green for St. Patrick's Day
You have two baseball teams
The Cubs and the White Sox
You have the Bulls for basketball
You have the Blackhawks for hockey
You have the Bears for footballs
My kind of town Chicago is
My kind of town Chicago is
People who smile at you
My kind of people too
Each time I roam Chicago is
Calling me home
Visit the parks
Chicago has over 500 of them
Visit the beach
It's on Lake Michigan
If you've got money to burn
Walk the shops of the Magnificent Mile
If you're short on cash and need something free to do
Visit the Lincoln Park Zoo
My kind of town Chicago is
My kind of town Chicago is
My kind of people too
People who smile at you
Each time I roam Chicago is
Calling me home

About this poem:
This is a parody of Frank Sinatra's My Kind Of Town. Went to Chicago with a friend this last Tuesday. We couldn't get out and walk around because his friend was out of town and he couldn't afford to park his car so we just drove around Chicago for four hours sightseeing.

Midnight

its not one thing
nor yet another
it is what it is
both the start
but also the end
when that hand hits
and the chimes begin
marking a new day
yet signifying the end
of the one gone by
other times may mean
different things
to different folks
time to go to work
time for play
time for dinner
the magic hour
midnight's hour
is all in one

Ten Years Down the Line

The saddest of all days
is when a friend leaves
you know they have to
that its time for them
to spread their wing
and try things anew
you know for a while
they will keep in touch
but as the months pass
so does the contact lessen
its not meant that way
just life moving on
new things to do and see
new friends to share
the silly things with
leaving you thinking
ten years down the line
whatever happened
we were such friends

Then and Now

Let's think of things gone by
times that have moved on
all the inventions come to pass
many moons ago one rose with the sun
and went to bed hard day's work done
with the setting of the sun
few luxuries there were to be had
no glass in the windows to keep you dry
the cold seeping in chilling you to the bone
a straw pallet on the floor for your bed
with only a harsh home spun blanket no sheets
a cup of herb tea and if lucky a slice of bread
veggie soup for dinner maybe some rabbit in it
thus was life for our fore fathers and mothers
hard toil dawn to dusk tax man to pay or else out
to sleep in hedgerows or warm barn if lucky
today we sit in warm houses food on most tables
but I ask myself who were the lucky ones?
was it them or is it us
as the more we have the more we want
