Temporary Home

A little boy, six years old
A little too used to being alone
Another new mom and dad
Another school, another house that will never be home
When people ask him how he likes this place
He looks up and says with a smile upon his face

This is my temporary home, it's not where I belong
Windows and rooms that I'm passing through
This is just a stop on the way to where I'm going
I'm not afraid because I know
This is my temporary home

Young mom, on her own
She needs a little help, got nowhere to go
She's looking for a job, looking for a way out
'Cause a halfway house will never be a home
At night she whispers to her baby girl
"Someday we'll find our place here in this world"

This is our temporary home, it's not where we belong
Windows and rooms that we're passing through
This is just a stop on the way to where we're going
I'm not afraid because I know
This is our temporary home

Old man, hospital bed
The room is filled with people he loves
And he whispers
"Don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday"
He looks up and says
"I can see God's face"

This is my temporary home, it's not where I belong
Windows and rooms that I'm passing through
This was just a stop on the way to where I'm going
I'm not afraid because I know
This was my temporary home

This is our temporary home

Looking For A Sugar Daddy

Thoughts of poverty like a cloud hanging over me
My children with their needs for survival growing; questioning my mastery
As continuing setbacks in life have my fortunes down on the canvas for the count of nine
Another adult in the household becomes my daily business to find.

My message of hope places a few basic requirements on the table
Lokking for dollar signs from a select few who consider themselves able
A few meetings develop for candidates attracted to my rescue plan
A standard level of chivalry expected from the charismatic to the obviously boring and bland.

I settle upon one while expressing sincere thanks to the rest
Choosing a middle of the road applicant instead of the best
Living day to day like many others part of a national trend
If my satisfaction is not complete I'll just have to start looking again.

About this poem:
Desperate times demand desperate solutions. Money seems to be the answer to problems most of the time. Short term solutions may or may not work out. A big bank account triumphs over a big heart.

I, Protector

Stand to left of me and I will fight your foes.
Stand behind me and I will take the blows.
Stand to the right of me and I will fight your fears.
Stand in front of me and I will wipe your tears.

I will protect you from all things but one.
I cannot protect you from yourself, my son.

My Girls

My girls,
my girls,
my wonderful girls.
One with straight hair,
the other with slight curls.

Ones calm,
sweet,
and polite.
The other's a whirlwind on her feet.
Who's always stirring up a fight.

Dresses,
makeup,
and proper ediquite.
As oppose to
jeans,
sports,
and a fire cracker that just got lit.

My girls are so different.
But in one way they're the same.
Although they don't act alike,
They both drive me insane.

No Charge

I know you loved him. I loved him too.
He was my daddy before he had you.
He left me all alone and I went on.
And soon memory of him was gone.
At one time I made him up.
In my mind to be what I wanted him to be.
Just to fill the empty spot,
That seemed to live within me.
I grew up. And he came around.
Like a fleeting ghost running thru a ghost town.
One moment he was here the next gone.
I guess he went back to you, back to his home.
Years went by and life went on.
Like a whirl wind that moves so fast it sings a song.
The hospital said got your father here.
I brought him home back to me.
No one come they just let him be.
We had the time to mend our hearts.
To find the love we shared from the start.
You ask me if I resented you.
The times you had with him.
I wondered where you were.
When it all came to an end.
As you write to me of your love my friend.
I must sadly tell you there is nothing of his that is mine.
Tho he left it all to me for my time.
I could never take a penny for being there.
I gave it all to my sister.
Aint life unfair.

Baby

A center piece for my dining room table

I want it elegant and new

Strong and sturdy like all the blacks that the slave masters knew

I need it unique and beautiful as the creatures that God created from dust to a new

I need a center piece for my dining room

I’m speaking of the sunset beauty and the mix races from now back into the days

And all the religious customs truss to amaze

I am speaking of music that moves the heart and art that transforms the soul

None the less I’m telling you of my dining room piece that

United and caused all sorts of aroma to turn in to nose art

it is one of kind

A gem, a goddess, a sculpture

Like the thighs and hips of a woman, like the curves to her stomach where lies the womb that carries and secures life, to the breast the feeds and nourishes not only for the young but for the older lover too

I’m speaking of a center piece that beautifies you and me

I need that type of elegance up in my living room

With the strength of man

Creating a new.

It Was Not Once

It was not only once, it will go this way,
In our fight, which is deaf and destroying:
As it happened before, you rebuffed me today –
To return, like a slave, by the morning.

Therefore, don’t be stressed, my inimical friend,
My friend - enemy, caught by black laces,
If the moans of love will be moans of pain
And the kisses will leave bloody traces.

just me

you see me
when the fairies hum
drunk on dew and song
you hear me
when moonbeams play
spider's drum night long
you feel me
when trees can't resist
to dance on bare feet
- that is,
if you still
have not forgotten
the elvenfolks among us
