The child...........
A father and daughter walk hand in hand
Amongst the shells and golden sand
A beautiful world for her to explore
A thousand imaginings and so much more
This way dad as she tugs on his arm
Her dad lost in his own seaside charm
A squeal of delight and a jump or two
As she crouches down for a better view
Crabs scuttle away in distress
Burrowing into the sand with an awkward finesse
As she breaks his grasp and off she goes
Free to run as only she knows
Putting flight to gulls with a nervous ease
Checking with dad as if to please
Golden curls within the breeze
The sounds of delight besides the sea
A beautiful moment for anyone to see
Sharing and caring so naturally..........

The beauty of innocence.............
You
As the years have gone by, our parents are gone and some siblings too.
Our children are grown and our grandchildren have arrived. I have remarried and so have you.
The thing that I realize, is that Birthdays, Christmas, joyful and sad occasions we talked. Sometimes for hours at a time.
Just because our lives did not fit like a glove, does not mean we lack the binding that comes with love.
So I look forward to growing older with you all the same. Even though we no longer share the same address or our last name.
Our children are grown and our grandchildren have arrived. I have remarried and so have you.

"It's nothing Sweetie,
Now go to bed."
"But Daddy?
I still hear it!"
"Listen young lady,
Now do what I said!"
"Daddy?
Do you love me?"
"Oh honey,
You know that I do."
"Then Daddy?
Please tell me,"
"Yes Princess?"
"Please tell me the truth."
"I told you it's a cat,
Or a squealing mouse,
That umm...,
That cat's about to crunch."
"Be careful or,
He might just,
Just might,
Have YOU for lunch!"
"Not funny,
Dummy Daddy!
Sounds just like,
A girl who's hurt and crying."
"I told you,
You stupid little brat,
It's just that ugly fu*kin' mouse,
Screaming out as it's dying!"

Do you still love me?"
"Please, Sweet Pumkin,
You know doggone well that I do."
"Then Daddy?
Please tell me,
Why you won't just,
Won't just tell me the truth?"

About this poem:
Wow! This one is WAY DIFFERENT from any of my usual styles. It felt like I was on a high as I wrote it, or rather, it wrote itself. I just arranged the words on a piece of brown paper bag as I sat at a bus stop.I believe the first time a child catches a parent in a lie, or observes them doing something immoral or illegal, they are very confused and sadly may even, like the child in this poem, question that parents love for them.
And now for something completely different...Is the crying this little girl heard coming from outside or inside the house? Is it her mother? Her sister?
Does she believe it could be her daddy that's making it happen. And what could this child possibly feel when she looks at him?
She asks him twice if he loves her.

I looked to you for strength.
But all I did was make you weaker,

Looked to you for truth,
didn't know where else to seek it.
And so sorry, if I made you fall,
Twas not my intention,
Sometimes, when we seek to find,
We find there is no redemption.
And nobody has the reasons why,
Nobody has the answers.
The how comes or the why's,
The reason why we cry, why we scream,
Why God, did this happen, to him.
To me,and all we hear, is
What will be , will surely be,
And only God knows why.
And so we cry,
And so we scream,
Oh why Lord, it can't be,
Why would you take the only man, who ever mattered to me,
my love , my life.
My heart , my soul,
The only reason I go on living...
so sorry, if I made you fall,
Twas not my intention,
Sometimes, when we seek to find,

And all we're left with is
asking our Lord,
Oh God why?
Oh, Lord why,
It's too soon to say good-bye,
Don't want to say good-bye.
Much too soon, to say Good-bye.

When my second husband died, I think I may have relied too heavily on my daughter for strength, it was her step father, and she has always been the spiritual one.. still I wonder. what toll, this has taken on her.
