Ref Wiki In 1961, University of California, Santa Cruz, astronomer and astrophysicist Frank Drake devised the Drake
equation as a way to stimulate scientific dialogue at a meeting on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). The Drake equation is a probabilistic argument used to estimate the number of active communicative extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy. The equation is best understood not as an equation in the strictly mathematical sense, but to summarize all the various concepts which scientists must contemplate when considering the question of life elsewhere. The Drake equation is:
where: N = the number of Milky Way galaxy civilizations already capable of communicating across interplanetary space
and R* = the average rate of star formation in our galaxy
fp = the fraction of those stars that have planets
ne = the average number of planets that can potentially support life
fl = the fraction of planets that actually support life
fi = the fraction of planets with life that evolves to become intelligent life (civilizations)
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology to broadcast detectable signs of their existence into space L = the length of time over which such civilizations broadcast detectable signals into space Drake's proposed estimates are as follows, but numbers on the right side of the equation are agreed as speculative and open to substitution:
The Drake equation has proved controversial since several of its factors are uncertain and based on conjecture, not allowing conclusions to be made. This has led critics to label the equation a guesstimate, or even meaningless.
Based on observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, there are between 125 and 250 billion galaxies in the observable universe. It is estimated that at least ten percent of all Sun-like stars have a system of planets, i.e. there are 6.25×1018 stars with planets orbiting them in the observable universe. Even if it is assumed that only one out of a billion of these stars has planets supporting life, there would be some 6.25 billion life-supporting planetary systems in the observable universe.
A 2013 study based on results from the Kepler spacecraft estimated that the Milky Way contains at least as many planets as it does stars, resulting in 100–400 billion exoplanets. Also based on Kepler data, scientists estimate that at least one in six stars has an Earth-sized planet.
The apparent contradiction between high estimates of the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the lack of evidence for such civilizations is known as the Fermi paradox.
Yep i do believe that is so I would not think in this huge universe we were the only mistake.
Anyway in biblical times they talked and drew pictures of angels coming down from the skies, now this day and age we know the breaking of the waters is a natural affect, so is raining fishes etc, the concepts just misunderstood then and as always people exploited that for their own ends. So yes I believe in other beings in whatever form in the universe.
"There is compelling evidence that UFOs are physical phenomena, not imaginary or hallucinatory. They are captured on radar that only detects physical objects, and perform feats not explainable by known physics. 90-95% of sightings can be explained by known phenomena, but 5-10% cannot."

Many seem to need 'probing' or are in dire need of it...Hope they all get taken and get identified with publicity then we can laugh them just as in the movie Independence Day...then read their case study as the ones documented by Dr. John E. Mack in his book Abduction or Timothy Good's several case studies
Was it Arthur C Clarke who said said something along the lines, It would be amazing if there was someone else out there, and even more amazing if there wasn't?

Not sure if he said that, but he did say "Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not. In either case the idea is quite staggering."
daniela777: Non. That's why they're called UFO because they can't be identified !
Overtime we see a plane in the sky...is that an UFO? We do not have the make, model or any call numbers identified except those that are perhaps low enough to ID those items. We can't ID jets by anything other than by the noise they make, but again, we know what it is but still no info on its particulars which then again renders it no more informative than the seeing the classic saucer shape, and possibly the V shape or even the 'cigar shape' craft How would its ID shift to IDF, by a logo on it; a number" What if people can't read , oh let's say a number in Egyptian Hieroglyphs, or Sumerian, never mind Chinese characters...Then we have the problem of just who makes the ID..some tower control at an airport or a jet passing by or some one in a cubicle and several computers sitting at NSA HQ. ? If you say, "the military", how does that ensure veracity of the claim, are there cameras rolling with a 360 degree view of the so called UFO while it is flying/ coasting along?? Perhaps the simple designation "UFO" should be enough to identify it as nearly everyone on Earth would know then what the craft is. We do not a point of origin as we do not need that for any plane we see in the sky. The very designation term "UFO" implies the general shape of the craft; or rather most craft normally seen by people , radar images and gun cameras, but on occasion, the craft are bat-winged as was the one that crashed at Roswell and at other places in New Mexico if one carefully reads the eye-witness testimonies, as with the full account of his first sighting by Kenneth Arnold shape: bat-winged, flying along like a saucer on water taken out of all proportion. The term again really and simply tries to signify a craft not of this Earth given the amounts of shapes and sizes seen all over this planet from the old 2 to 4 foot 'foo's to the gigantic seen over the Hudson Valley, Las Vegas etc. to the one seen in space by cosmonauts and pilots 5 times the size of an aircraft carrier... I wonder if anyone in a control tower even tries to communicate with one but that is probably against all sorts of military and civic laws...instead of trying to encourage people to try...

Naaa, c'mon, this "Report" from July 1999 is a PRIVATE paper, has nothing to do with an official publication by the French government ! ...it was sent as a copy to the government and they did not even comment on it !
Their assessment of the situation is more than questionable, at least in the last part of the report which, although unsigned, bears the marks of industry with close ties to the military and research facilities whose names have already been cited in relation with GEPAN’s, then SEPRA’s long history.
Unless these people have insider information, which would have yet to be revealed, their leaning toward the more paranoïd trends of ufology is more than alarming. They consider for instance Corso’s assertions to be possibly reliable much as they do with Nick Pope’s views. Roswell is taken for granted (!) and North America is portrayed as the ‘Big Black Wolf’ who’s debunking scheme, especially (but not only) over Roswell would seem logical if we are to believe they have aquired otherworldly objects.
This "report" for sure has jeopardized any serious or official interest on the UFO phenomenon in France...and since 1999 no further news was published ! ............................................................................................
As to the topic:
ET's somewhere in the universe ? Yes, may well be...Contact possible ? No way, given the distances and times involved
Considering the size of the universe, the trillions of potential planets capable of sustaining life as we understand it, regardless of other forms, and the fact that the lor our God made us.....
...
... hang on a minute!!!!
It's arrogant to believe we are alone and every chance that we would be considered an insignificant mediocre lifeform by some other species.
I seen 2 large round balls of light travel in sink from point A to point B (about 3miles 4.8kl) in much less than a second. You do the math. lol I was one of many to see it/ them.
