As per your questions near the end...I would assume we all paid for our freedom, one way or the other. The soldiers physically fought and the citizens financially paid. I have heard from college professors that every war can be linked to a financial gain by somebody who initially started it. If there are ulterior motives for war and our "so-called freedom," let's not forget about our "so-called" enemies.
What have they become? I think a lot of the posts, including yours, does a good job at pointing out what has become of our soldiers. We the people, including yourself, have become mindful of the harness of war. Who knows, maybe sometime in the future we will all realize how silly war really is and war will no longer exist? Sometimes things need to get worse before they get better.
How do we repay them? I think we become mindful and hopefully learn from past mistakes. You cannot change what has already happened. If that question was directly pertaining to the soldiers, that would be very complex and would need to be addressed on a personal level with each one.
Great blog and topic. Unfortunately, I do not know much about it. I do know there are a lot of homeless and several of them are military. I think in order to solve this problem, we have to look at the underlying issue as to why are they in that position, and I do not know the why part. Are they alcoholics, drug users, just don't want to work, unable to work, or under educated???? I do not know. Until we discover the underlying issue or issues with these people, it is difficult to solve the problem. Or do you think we should give our ex-military all the money they need to live, even if it means supporting some less than positive life styles.
I am completely on your side here, there should be no reason why our ex-military should be homeless, let alone anyone being homeless. I just think the solution is much more complex than what the surface presents it to be.
Being a single guy, V-day is just another day. Although, when you are and about among lovers, I get a good feeling. Maybe I am stealing their vibe. lol
Hello SR....another great human emotion we can examine. Thank you for bringing these to our attention, in an effort to better understand them.
I learned at a very young age that if I threw a tantrum, I would get my way. Unfortunately, that same behavior followed me into my adulthood. I would use my frustrations and anger to manipulate people. Thanks to some very close friends, they pointed this out to me. Ever since, I have been monitoring and paying attention to my anger.
After studying a highly note-worthy person's teachings, I have learned to subside my feelings of anger. Don't get me wrong, when something upsets me, my natural reaction is to feel angered, but then my rational side kicks in.
To me....what good is there to anger? When you are living alone, it does nothing. The only good to it, in my opinion, is to do harm to your health. Yes, it is good to have that initial feeling of anger arise in you to alarm yourself that something is not meeting your approval, but there is not much in life that cannot be talked out in a mature way. Also, if there is nothing you can do about what is upsetting you, a person has no choice but to accept it. Learn from your mistakes and try to avoid similar situations for down the road.
Thanks again SR....very interesting blog. Happy V-Day....Friday is around the corner. :)
Leah..God...that sounds too good to be true. Is it legal to have that combination? I know that mustache should be questioned by the law.
L.I.M., Summer is around the corner and s.r. pie sounds absolutely wonderful. Maybe I should have had some this winter, bring summer in a little quicker. :)
CapNemo...Pumpkin spice cheesecake, I have seen it but have never tried it. The next time I see it, I am going for it.
Hello Cincy, you can never get me to pass up any well-cooked steak. :) Swiss steak, I have never had that.
Ang.....I remember when I was about 9 years old making my own chocolate cake from scratch, including the frosting. To this day, that was the best chocolate cake I have ever had. There is something about homemade cooking that cannot be matched by any industrial recipe. I have never had homemade ice cream either. You can tell I lived a deprived life.
How are you Daniel? A bottomless pit you say. I am with you on that. There has to be one food that you absolutely crave? :)
Hans, I always like to try new things. I have actually printed out the recipe and will give it a whirl shortly. Thank you for sharing it with me. Now, I need to make sure my batteries in the smoke detector are good when I light the rum on fire. :)
Aishaa...like the name...apple pie crunchy? How do you get it crunchy? It sounds good though. :)
SR, I was sitting down last night eating a brownie...lol...hence the blog. If you go out and get some delicious mocha ice cream, the blog was effective.
RE: WAR MACHINES: NEW BREED IN OUR MIDST
One last "food for though." Wars only existed, at least in the past, if there were people fighting them.
