I am all for equal rights for everyone. But, I do wonder with all the women entering the workforce, is the traditional family structure going to suffer? Now days there is a large number of divorces and a lot of single parent households. It seems to me, that society has taken a major change, and it happen rather quickly. Maybe it is for the better, but it certainly is different.
In addition, there also seems to be a shortage of jobs. With more people now in the workforce, this will lead to unemployment. One could even speculate, lower wages for everyone. Supply and demand...more supply of workers and lower demand for them, leads to less value of a worker = lower wages.
I do not see any problems at all. Just have all your bases covered. If you are certain the guy you are interested is really the guy you think he is, it should work out beautifully.
Oh yeah....I forgot to mention. Just the fact that the man was beating on the women would be enough for me to distance myself from them and speaks a little about their mentality.
This sounds like a case where I would set aside my principles and apologize to them. Yes, you did nothing wrong. I feel somebody should be thanking you....from what you wrote.
However, if these are your neighbors and you are living next to them, I would be a bit concerned. What I mean by this, you did what any other person would have done to protect somebody from getting hurt. Yet, your neighbors do not see it that way. Either their elevator does not reach the top floor, or I am missing something.
With that said, I would apologize with an explanation and then distance yourself as much as you can from them.
I met a girl, back in the day, and she was not the sharpest tool in the box, but had loads of commonsense. She was very loyal to her boyfriend at the time and is still very loyal to her husband today. With that said, I think somebody with average intelligence and loads of commonsense would be attractive.
Throughout the years, I have seen people with high intelligence develop an ego....thinking they were better than everyone else because they thought they were smarter than everyone else.
I think an intelligent woman, with no ego, and with average commonsense would also be attractive.
So, with a stipulation, I am okay with both types.
I am not familiar with each state's law concerning this type of thing, but Min sounds similar to Mich.
I heard here in Mich, if somebody enters your home illegally, you have the right to shoot them. Maybe there are some small print exclusionary details that go along with that law? Apparently, in Min, there are such exclusions. Otherwise, why is that man guilty?
I agree with what you and L.L. have said. It is sad the youth are dead; but, a person needs to have the ability to protect themselves in their own homes.
I also heard in Texas, they have the Castle Law or Castle Doctrine, stating that the owner has the right to shoot somebody if they put one foot on their property. They do not even have to enter into the home. A person who lived down there told me about that. Not sure if it is true or not. I would be afraid of just goofing around on the sidewalk and somebody gives you a little playful shove.
I remember when I first heard about what happen to that man, it made me sick.
In my opinion, I do not think we should be executing people in the first place. The primary reason for me saying this is because the judicial system is not perfect. There are reported many people who have been put to death, only to find out afterwards they were innocent. In those cases, there is no way of correcting the mistake made.
Secondly, I am not so sure it is the duty of a living human being to take the life of another human being. Yes, there are crazy people out there that do take others' lives and that is not right and they need to be penalized for that. I think that is why we have prisons. But to take their life as a penalty, I am not sure about that. To me, that breaches the inherent responsibility of being a living person...from a spiritual aspect.
That sounds like a very difficult position to be in. I think you will have to go with what you believe is best, provided you have already exhausted the idea of sitting down with everyone and having a mature conversation.
Just be suspicious of people mentioning they are god fearing in their profiles and anyone asking you to chat with them off this site immediately (like on yahoo or something). There is a lot of information on these blogs that discuss this same concern.
There are some people that are so negative, you can actually feel it when you are by them, and vice versa. Have I ever been affected by their negativity? At one time, yes. Now, I feel somewhat pity for them or I ignore them/steer clear.
At least you were able to identify that there might be something not exactly right with your previous views with life. That is a very significant beginning. You cannot fix any problems if you fail to recognize the problems. I went through a similar thing in life as you describe. What helped me is to be honest with myself and listening to people I know/knew I could trust.
It sounds like the man was not properly taught on how to change a tire. Good thing you were there to show him the proper steps. A jack on a rock? That sounds like a making for somebody to get hurt.
Even though I am not disappointed where I am at currently in life, I have given your question some deep thought. I think if I knew what I know now about life, when I was a teenager, would have been a major help.
I love both of my parents, but it is amazing how much your upbringing shapes who you become in the future. In adulthood, it is up to ourselves to become educated and self-aware of possible shortcomings we were shown growing. Once these shortcomings are identified, it is time to become your own person and break free from the molds we were cast from.
Being out in nature is a good way to take your mind off of negative thoughts. Listen to Eckhart Tolle is another way of dealing with depression...with no pills needed. :)
Nice guess BF....I was going to say some stray pigeon picked her pocket and took only 1 of the 100 dollar bills or it took only 5 of the 20 dollar bills. But, I wasn't sure if she was carrying 100's or 20's.
RE: WORLD'S PROGRESS IN THE EQUALITY OF MEN AND WOMEN
Hello SR,How are you doing?
I am all for equal rights for everyone. But, I do wonder with all the women entering the workforce, is the traditional family structure going to suffer? Now days there is a large number of divorces and a lot of single parent households. It seems to me, that society has taken a major change, and it happen rather quickly.
