RE: New Zealand school abolishes gendered uniforms

That'll be because you've got so much hair, Galrads.

RE: Did you ever wonder why an individual who's made it plain that they 'have issues with you"

It doesn't take an amateur shrink to explain it.

You have no photo.

Those of us who use the mobile version of the site can't identify faceless posters without clicking on their profile, or scrolling down to match up a named quote with a post we've just read.

Also, if we scroll down before the page is fully loaded the page sticks enough so that the scrolling action becomes a tap...the post turns blue and takes you to the poster's profile. If you happen to be a prolific poster the chances of this happening are pretty high.

Someone did a thread recently including a quote which went something like:

"Don't assume that people are always thinking about you."

Now, who was that?

idea

Oh yeah, it was you Hex. giggle

RE: New Zealand school abolishes gendered uniforms

I'm confused.

Why are some people confused about school uniform options? dunno

RE: Was Marilyn Monroe really beautiful?

MostofMostlythethe differwnce

RE: What's it like to be German?

Is that the people who use more exclamation marks than you can shake a stick at?

Unemotional, you say!

I don't know whether to laugh, or to cry!

RE: Blorums

Or maybe a flog?

Like 'flogging a dead horse'?

RE: Syria

@Life...

I see how my mother's experience of war has affected me. I see how I have in turn passed learned thoughts and behaviours (and perhaps genetic predosposition) on to my daughter. Maybe in time I will see things in my granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

I think of all the refugees, all the suffering, all the survival strategies of the Syrian people and I see the how it may effect the generations to come.

War doesn't end with the ceasefire. It's so much bigger than that.

Do you need a heart to recognise another human being? Surely, half a neurone will do the trick!

RE: Syria

I've just finished reading On The Other Side by Mathilde Wolff-Moenckeberg.

It consists of letters she wrote to her adult children overseas during WWII, but couldn't send because of their honest content. Her and her husband Emil Wolf would likely have been shot, or sent to a concentration camp had they ever been discovered.

The images that you have posted, Life, mirror the images the author conjures of the destruction of Hamburg. I can only surmise there is some similarity in the respective peoples' experience - the fear, the starvation, the illnesses, the fleeing, the oppression, the losses and grieving for loved ones, the depression, the lethargy, the fight to survive each day, each moment, to name but a few.

Lest we forget? I am continually enraged by this phrase and feelings of my own impotence.

RE: crying i discovered

The whole crying/trance thing is probably more to do with the 12 cans of beer you had last night, Pedro.

RE: Early birthday thread for Debbie (2Intrigued)

Penblwydd Hapus, Debs. hug

RE: Happy Birthday MollyBaby

Penblwydd Hapus, Molly Cork! hug

RE: Are you glad you were a child before technology took over

Umm, how can technology take over unless you facilitate?

Technology can't take over by force of it's own volition.

You have to provide the means of it taking over your children's and grandchildren's lives.

RE: How long are you single?

Well, I reckon I can trump all of you on the length of singledom, and possible single for longer than the lot of you put together, so I'm the ugliest fekker of them all! laugh

RE: Not here to change anyone's mind.

@Sergio...

Then you misunderstand the word 'argument' in this context.

It is a technical term used in the fields of logic, philosophy, discussion, debate, etc. I wasn't referring to the common meaning of bickering, or rowing.

RE: Not here to change anyone's mind.

There are few things I enjoy more than a good debate where someone can put forward a logical argument which changes my perspective, or opinion.

Unfortunately, there are very few people who can put forward a logical argument, or respond to one.

RE: Swedish sausage mix from the fridge ...

British sausage mix - anybody want to hear what it entrails?

RE: Do you VACCINATE your CHILDREN?

Oh yeah, when I tried to quizz doctors about the risks of MMR they were very evasive and made it very difficult for me to find information.

That gave me a clue as to how much they cared about my child's welfare versus their big fat bonus from the pharmaceutical companies.

I expected an open and honest conversation so I could make an informed choice.

RE: the hand strikes then gives a flower

I've not heard of this saying, but it sounds similar to 'he gives with one hand and takes with the other'.

It describes an untrustworthy, or manipulative person; someone who gains trust and then abuses that trust for personal gain.

The phrase which you describe seems to be the reverse. It describes someone who tries to regain trust after abusing it, but there is an implication that the giving of the flower isn't genuine and they will strike again.

RE: Who robbed the meat of the sandwiche

The Field.

I think it:'s probably my favourite film.

It's kind of exquisitely painful.

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

Ye-ah, full of positivity, Hex. laugh

BTW, I'm not a Rebekah and I don't wear petticoats - wrong nationality.

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

Because it's not a gender issue...? laugh

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

@Hex...

Now why would I be surprised at your negativity? wink

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

@Tru...

Ah well, I'm stuffed then.

And not in a good way. laugh

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

@Hex...

I take issue with your description.

It's in the blood and style, nothing to do with money. Posh people can be on their are too, y'know. laugh

RE: I want to sleep with a posh woman

Why, Pedro?

We're no different from anyone else. dunno laugh

RE: I Don't Know, I'm kind of Frustrated.

Your grandparents would be correct. It would have been inappropriate to ask the waitress serving you out on a date.

It would still be inappropriate if you were on your own.

She's at work, she's being paid to serve you and be nice to you. She has to conduct herself according to a set of employment based social rules.

You should conduct yourself according to the social rules of being a customer. It's disrespectful to cross those boundaries.

You didn't miss out on getting a girlfriend. You didn't even miss out on an opportunity to ask her out. You wisely chose to not take the opportunity to be creepy.

Girlfriends are women you meet and get to know in social situations, then ask out, then date, then mutually agree to be in a relationship with.

RE: The thread of self importance.

You're welcome to piss in my cornflakes, Serene. I can't eat them, either.

RE: The thread of self importance.

Being a matyr to IBS, I find myself marginalised by your preposterous thread. The bottom has fallen out of my world.

I'm more familiar with the opposite reaction to sandwiches.

RE: Name Calling, do you mind?

Can't we bend the rules?

I mean, a little wriggle room with the definition of gluttony wouldn't be hurt, would it?

Besides, I'm Jewish. laugh
