RE: What is Woke?

Almost from my earlest memories I've experienced ethnic and gender discrimination, but I don't have to worry about being gunned down by police for being on the way to the shop whilst black, or for being on my own porch whilst black. I was statistically less likely to have a stress related still birth, or child who died within a few hours.

It's a choice whether to apply my experience and knowledge in the interests of equality where everyone benefits, or whether to use it as an excuse to ignore the inequality that is, on the surface, to my advantage.

We all benefit from equality, more equal societies thrive more, so being proudly 'anti-woke' is ultimately self-defeating, short-sighted and foolish.

RE: What is Woke?

You forgot to preside over Great Britain.

There are 67.33 million people on the edge of their chairs here.

RE: What is Woke?

If we had a survey of ths thread, I wonder who would be offended the most frequently.

RE: What is Woke?

You can decide what my nationality is and whether Britain is one country, or not.

RE: What is Woke?

The word 'female' is more commonly used in a misgynistic way, don't you think?

When used as a noun, I feel like I'm viewed as livestock...and we all know that doesn't play out well after last orders in Wales. laugh

RE: What is Woke?

What is woke?

RE: What is Woke?

Dim problem, cariad. laugh

RE: What is Woke?

It's an international forum.

RE: What is Woke?

Sit, stand, lie...it's no odds to me.

Best ask Ten what the posture law is on your thread, mind.

RE: What is Woke?

'Woman' isn't misogynstic. confused

RE: What is Woke?

That says it all. laugh

RE: What is Woke?

Mine is bilingual.

RE: What is Woke?

You do realise we have a centralised government, right?

Three countries on the biggest island of an archipelago with one centralised government and a British passport regardless of which country you were born, or live in.

RE: What is Woke?

It's not offensive, it's excluding.

When someone asks where you come from they're kinda saying 'you don't belong here like I do'.

It starts to become offensive when you say where you live, but that person keeps pressing the point because they can't see beyond their own limited thoughts and experiences.

RE: What is Woke?

Why do you need the word 'woke' then?

Why don't you just call Biden...umm...Biden?

RE: What is Woke?

Hush, Gal seems to have no idea about what's going on. giggle

RE: What is Woke?

I know who Biden is, but who is 'the woke'?

RE: What is Woke?

It's not hypocrisy just because you don't understand.

RE: What is Woke?

Tell me what you think 'woke' is, or who 'woke people' are and I might be able to understand.

You need to define the premise of your proposition before anything can be inferred from it.

It's actually you who's avoiding talking about what 'woke' is, but in order to avoid it, you accuse me of avoiding it. It's a common technique in politics these days, but not a constructive one.

Bod is right about the divisiveness. These techniques create a 'them and us' paradigm, where 'they' are accused of things, either without foundation, or of things the 'us' are doing and hoping no one will notice. giggle

RE: What is Woke?

Who is 'they'?

RE: What is Woke?

That's not really logical, is it?

Those who change their ideals and behaviours, recognise and accept the need for change.

It's guilt and negative feelings towards the self which cause people to shy away from facing their destructive, or damaging behaviours.

RE: What is Woke?

Do you have a source for that?

RE: What is Woke?

Or is anti-woke simply a case of not wanting to look at it because it's too painful and challenging?

RE: What is Woke?

The thread is 'What is woke?'

How do student loans, or student loan forgivenness that has been shut down, define 'woke'?

RE: What is Woke?

Again, I still don't know what you're talking about, or how it defines 'woke'.

RE: What is Woke?

So you don't actually pay for slackers' post-graduate education at all.

You pay taxes and the government uses tax revenue to pay for many, many different things.

How does this define 'woke'?

RE: What is Woke?

I'm still utterly perplexed and you haven't answered most of my questions.

I'm particularly interested in how you pay for other people's post-graduate education.

RE: What is Woke?

It was two questions, and no, I didn't understand what you were trying to say.

I guess you meant fairness, unless the US government issues shares.

What is your posterity?

So, how is that done in the US? How do you get assigned people whose education you must pay for? What counts as advanced education?

You have to pay for some people's Masters and Doctorates? Those people are slackers, but somehow get a Masters/Doctorate that they will never use?

I still don't understand.

You're saying 'woke' is a movement that prioritises fairness instead of opportunity, right? So, opportunity should be unfair in your opinon?

RE: What is Woke?

Which defintion of 'equity', and why should opportunity be a greater priority?

RE: Do people ever really change, or do they just go through phases of being themselves as they go throu
