RE: What do you do If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself is it a hostage situ

Monte, I tried to write you but also your area is blocked. It says that you accept no correspondance. I'm thinking now that this is some sort of glitch as now that I looked at what is blocked, I have not blocked the US whatsoever. I have checked to accept mail from the US. Perhaps I will unblock this and see what happens.

RE: What do you do If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself is it a hostage situ

Sorry about my profile Monte. I had so many scammers writing that I got sick and tired of it and changed my profile to run them off a bit. Now I only get the occassional scammer who for sure doesn't read my profile.
I did not know that it was blocked from correspondence within the states. I had only blocked it for only certain overseas locations. I will check this out Monte and see if I can unblock it. You always have excellent commentaries and are the voice of reason on many topics.
As far as my classmate, she is quite scared too. It is clear that the nice part of the personality within this guy is held hostage. It is definitely not a joking matter for anyone who is near this schizophrenic she has stated. So sad for the sweet part of the personality who is held hostage, knows something isn't quite right but does not fully understand what is happening to them and why they are in certain unpleasant situations at any given moment. My classmate has been through every possible state and county organization and facility available and is emotionally distaught at this point as she is held hostage to whatever the courts tell her that she must place him. He gets put out or thrown out of every place or told he is stable but then flips out again. Federal funds have been cut and there is no alternative now except to house him with the public and wait till he does something and then he will be killed and incarcerated again. It's just a matter of time.
Demonic possession is a possiblility in this case...even though the guy has never had any personal dealings with witchcraft.
In general, the more I hear and see of cold blooded murder and violence all over the world, the more I'm believing that the devil is taking a strong hold and demonic posession is real. This is an entire topic in itself. I've often wondered about the people who truly hear voices commanding them to do violence. I've often wondered if severe schizophrenia is actually demonic posession to the highest level? My classmate's relative is a case in point.

RE: What do you do If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself is it a hostage situ

Multiple personality disorder, (or whatever its called now) is only related to the schizophrenias by virtue that they both come under the category of psychoses.

Schizophrenia means "split with reality" not split personality.

The thread states if someone has multiple personalities and threatens suicide, do they count as a group of people and is one personality threatening suicide, threatening the lives of the other personalities?

It's a philosophical point of reference as to that which defines "a person". This would then have ramifications for other philosophical debate relating to life and death situations.

I don't think it was meant to be dismissive of suicide, although there is some humour in the perspective.(quote Jac)

Your explanation was well said Jac. The term "split personality" is an old fashioned word from my generation and beyond yet that connotates schizophrenia to the general population that doesn't understand the technical explanation of schizophrenia that you addressed. My aplogy for not clarifying the split personality as an old fashioned word.
When it comes to the dissociative personalities as you explained, I will give you an interesting example of an exteme schizoprhrenic who is under medical care and still has some serious issues. A classmate of mine is the legal guardian for a dangerous male schizoprhrenic relative. He flips out mentally and has been incarcerated repeatedly and when released, has been shoved around in and out of one behavioral health facility after another. He is a danger to himself and to society, and someone else or his own body will die as a result of his actions. Anyway, she has seen his personality change right in front of her. His eyes get large, black, he becomes devoid of any sensitive emotions, lacks a conscience, becomes compulsive, violent and his voice changes to something she's never heard and he speaks in some sort of strange language. His mother is afraid of him even. This dissociative type of personality does take the other personality hostage per se as my classmate has seen the other sweet personality emerge and then suddenly change.
I think the outcome of this will be that eventually the bad side will kill off the other in a suicide to the body or else the police will wind up shooting the body when the evil side does something to harm someone else. These 2 parts of the personality keep flipping back and forth.
He's been labeled as an extreme schizophrenic dissociative personality by medical standards but it cannot be ruled out as demonic possession by some either, as he cannot go anywhere near a bible or relious object. He is free to walk the streets and is not incarcerated at this time as the county board of mental health has set him up in his own apartment because they don't feel he has committed a current crime to put him back in prison yet. Our country has cut funding dramatically for mental health facilities and many are out there on the streets as there is no place able to handle them.
Hence my reason for taking the writer"s topic rather seriously and not philosophically lighthearted. Eventually this guy will make national headlines with some horrific crime.
You and Monte brought up some excellent ethical questions to give some serious thought to.

RE: What do you do If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself is it a hostage situ

Take it serious. Suicide is nothing to joke about. Even worse with multiple personalities. I think a hostage negotiator or psychiatrist who has training with schizophrenia persons would be most qualified to deal with this situation. Whenever someone's life is on the line, it is best to get a professional involved. There are 24 hr suicide help lines to contact and ask to find someone who has had the experience with this type of situation to get help from. rose

RE: You get contacted by an ex after 30 years... What do you do?

The same thing happened with a couple of friends of mine. Not sure who contacted whom. They both went to high school together and broke apart due to immaturity in the 1960s. Both had a couple of marriages and children in life. 40 yrs later, they came back together and found they both had never lost the love they had for each other. They are very happily married today. She even made sure he had the Harley motorcycle of his dreams (they both love Harleys) and she has a matching one. When he had prostate cancer, she told his doctor to do whatever it took to save him as she couldn't bear to lose him in life again. He had always been head over heels in love with her for all those years. They will be there faithfully for each other no matter what happens in life. I saw that love shine through in their eyes as they talked. It was genuine. hug heart wings

RE: WHAT WAS THE DUMBEST THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE

LMAO Jean. Your stories are absolutely funny!! You should write a book. You have a gift of sorts for having things happen to you. I went down a kid's sliding board after my son and broke my leg. And on St Patty's day of all days. If I was Irish, I probably wouln't have broken my leg. Wind up in the hospital with major surgery and a steel plate to put my leg back together. I never went down another kids' sliding board again. Lesson well learned.doh

RE: After 8 weeks He is still not sharing his pic after a couple of requests

8 weeks and not showing you a pic. Has he even suggested meeting up and setting up a date, time and location? If not, then your getting your heartstrings tugged with a duping by this guy.
I didn't grow up in the computer generation either but eventually learned. There is the library where this guy can go to get some type of help.
There comes a point when you can give the benefit of a doubt for just so long until you realize that they probably aren't the right match for you anyway. Better you look for someone who is more up to your standards of courtesy and repect. 8 weeks and counting?....the writing is clear on the wall for the direction I would send this guy packing. As the song says, "Hit the road Jack, don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the road Jack....etc" BTW, is there no such thing as "snail mail....aka US Postal Service if you really think he is sincere and computer literacy is his problem?" To me, if he can email then he is somewhat computer literate. I think his problem is that he has "4 eyes and 2 sets of lips...with eyes and lips on his forehead and elsewhere on him" as to why he won't send his pic. JMHO!! You deserve better.

RE: Your Opinion: Is This A Miracle Baby Or Good Science Or Just Good Luck

Monte, the article stated that the mother held him 12 hrs a day for 3 days, not for a year. However, it is still an incredible story to be sure. God must have some special plans in the future for this baby. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story. teddybear

RE: If a photographer approaches you on the street and asks to take your picture, what do you do?

No I would not. Rodney Alcala (aka The Dating Game Serial Killer)found his victims attractive and lured them with his photography. Many of his victims posing in the pictures have not been found. This was back in the late 1960s-1970s. Google him.
Nancy Grace has done a segment on this killer. Only 120 out of over 900 pics have been posted.

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

I had a spat with the boyfriend. We decided to go on a fishing and picnic date. I am not one to touch a worm or any other wiggly crawly insect so when it comes to baiting the hook, that is something he has to do for me and that he knows.
Anyway, prior to going I spent 2 hrs preparing a very tasty nutritious picnic of a good variety and large amts of food for him. While I was preparing the food, he goes to the bait shop and picks up the fish bait. He buys worms and maggots and when he got back to my house, he proceeds to put them in my refrigerator with all my food. I about "died" when I saw them and quickly got them out of there, put them outside on an ice pack and was pretty darn mad. I can only think of what would have occurred if the lid happened to come off. My refrigerator was stocked with all kinds of health foods, veggies, grains, milk, eggs, tunafish salad, fresh juices, yogurt and more.
If that wasn't bad enough, to add insult to injury, we get to the fishing location and he brought 3 fishing rods and brought a chair for me. I carried down a rod and the "bait" (yuckie) and he carries down one other rod and his tackle and never brings the chair. He proceeds to bait his hook and cast the line repeatedly and start fishing. I stood 3 feet away watching him for nearly 15 mins and he never bothered to bait me a hook but said a few words about the fish that were biting. I finally went up and got the chair and brought it down. I sat for another 45 mins and even watched as he then moved about 75 feet away and baited and fished off a pier with the other rod, not saying anything. Thought he was walking over to the trash can nearby. In disgust, I packed up the chair and walked the 2 miles home in the heat and became dehydrated and was weak and shaky.
15 minutes after I got home, he pulled into the driveway very upset thinking I was kidnapped and put my keys, purse and cell phone on the porch as it had been locked in the truck at the fishing site. It was obvious he had not looked up from fishing probably until he was hungry enough and then realized I was gone.
The excuse is, "I'm sorry, it was a "guy thing". It is extremely rare for me to ever get mad but this time, I sure did and I did say something then. The "woman thing" I then did was first lock him out, then took a cool shower, got a bite to eat while he sat on the porch in the heat...and then after an hour finally put his belongings on the back steps and sent him packing home. He is in the "doghouse" as of now. These incidents will take me quite awhile to get over as the sting is still very fresh. I am no "pushover" for any guy. True story!!

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

T

That's a very funny story Monte. RFLMAOthumbs up

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

Great story and very funny.Lucky your adoptive dad didn't try to grill the gainsburgers thinking they were some sort of premade hamburgers. OMG, can you imagine the look on his face then?

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

That is a good story. Did you drive off and leave the groceries on the car roof after you got into your car? I have a true car roof story.
When my son was a toddler, my husband, son and I went to West Virginia to visit his aunt. My son always dragged his big beloved stuffed Mickey Mouse with him everywhere. When we went to depart, my husband put the Mickey Mouse on the car roof and then our son in the toddler car seat. He closed his door and then we both got seatbelted in our seats up front and drove off. For a half an hour, our son kept screaming and all my attempts turning around from the front seat to calm him down were in vain. No amount of singing or baby formula bottles could calm him down. My husband noticed that 5-6 cars were driving by him on the road and the passengers pointing to the roof of our car. We were driving 50-60mph at least. He suddenly realized that the Mickey Mouse just might be up there so he pulled over. Lo and behold, Mickey was still there and had the ride of his life. He put Mickey in the arms of our son and he clutched it tightly, stopped screaming and went to sleep. Motto of the story, "Always check your car roof before you drive off".

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

That is a funny story Felixis. Some hotels put out a notice that says that the customers can buy the towels if they wish. But doubt that was the case in the 1960s. Your grandmother was something else and you have wonderful memories of special times with her. What a blessing for you to have such a wonderful grandmother who no doubt treasured those special times with you and your mom. Only you and your mom knew her special towel secrets. Now we all know. Great story!!

RE: age of first kiss

I think I was 12 or 13. This was in the 1960s. The boy was I think in his 20s and used to walk me to the YMCA where I used to go swimming. He was a perfect gentlemen and never tried to push himself on me. We walked hand in hand to and from the swimming place and we would stop at an ice cream stand or a sandwich shop to get something to eat.
He eventually moved away with his family and that was the end of it. It was just a summer romance of sorts.
The next guy I met was when I was 15. He was my age and we met at a dance. He was also a gentlemen and for the months that we dated, he never ever pushed himself on me. My family broke us up because he wasn't the same religion as me. He cried and pleaded with my family to be allowed to see me but it was futile. However, my family always knew that he was a true gem of a guy. As I did a life review with my elderly aunt who was on her death bed at 99 and still clear thinking, she smiled and nodded her head in approval of him as a person when I asked her if she remembered the guy. She was the one that broke us up.
The next girl he met in college he married and has been happily married ever since. He is a playwright, a teacher and a very skilled carpenter and is very active in national organizations and generous philanthropically.
I shall never forget that there are truly decent guys in this world that will not take advantage of the innocense of a child no matter what their raging hormones are doing. For these early experiences in life I am grateful.

RE: Tell a true but short story poeple wont believe

RockRabbit, that is really some story. Don't know if you have any beliefs in God but it is said by people of faith that angels appear when you least expect them. I think that this guy was your Guardian Angel of sorts. Perhaps for him in that year you hired him and he sorted out his life, you were a Guardian Angel of sorts for him and made a big difference in his present and future. Some people never forget.
You must be a very good person to people in general. Don't be surprised if someone else whom you've done something for somewhere in life comes through in another way when you are needing the help and least expecting it. I always knew there were good guys on CS still.
JMHO!!

RE: Do you believe the Spirit World exists ???

If you've ever been on a ghost hunt and felt one of those spirits walk right through you, you know that they do exist. Sometimes they are just playful and other times somewhat malevolent. Sometimes they scratch you. The say it is cold and feels like a spider web on your face.
I do not doubt they exist. Sometimes I think that those who were part of our lives have passed but they also watch over us and send us messages in subtle ways....and sometimes in not so subtle ways.
I think when we die, our spirit takes on another energy form when it leaves our body. But possibly will still look like we did in real life, but be in a different dimension. When they move something, leave a scent or leave something that is familiar to you when you aren't expecting it, then you know that they are trying to communicate. And sometimes they just plain make themselves visible to you and maybe no one else. Sometimes they were part of your life and others are not connected whatsoever that we know of.
I have an aunt who was very special to me when she was alive. When I am very worried or she wants me to follow up on some medical issue, she will start leaving me pennies and I will find them consistently everywhere I go. She was the treasurer of her organization for many years when she was alive. They will stop showing up when the medical issue is resolved and there is no further worry on my part. She passed away in 2005 on my birthday around the time of day that I was born in 1953. When living, she also put extra pennies in a charity box that she had in her home and turned the contents over to a charity when it was full. Then she'd start filling it again.
There is no doubt to me whatsoever that spirits exist.

RE: osama bin laden is

Hi Ali,

Maybe one fired that killed him. But do you recall the hubub about his wife getting shot in the thigh also. And not from the same bullet. There was more than one bullet that went flying. Obama and others sat around and were able to see the action live on a video screen at the White House. It was a bit too gruesome to show to the public even. You can bet the Navy Seals had orders to take him alive or dead but bring him out. No doubt they matched his DNA to his sister that died of a brain tumor in the US for verification.
About him being buried at sea so hurriedly, that is not impossible. The US wouldn't give him the respect to bury him on US soil and they didn't want to give his body up to some country so there could be a burial shrine for his followers to pay homage and use it as a rallying point every year. So yes, it is not impossible that he was buried at sea at "Davy Jones Locker" so to speak. The president has not ordered any further hunts for Osama so it's likely he is kaput, meaning finished off, ended and dead.

RE: When to date a widowed person...

Scuba,
If you go on a 2nd or 3rd date with him and want to make an impression on him, buy him either a few yellow roses for friendship or something small and unique that he will either use or look at everyday to remind him of you.
I would be quite stunned if a guy bought me a few gorgeous roses on a 2nd or 3rd date and gave them to me during a dinner date in a nice restaurant or some scenic overlook or sunset walk on a beach with a beautiful view somewhere. Hint, hint, hint Scuba...hide them from sight somehow If you think he's genuine and he's a good guy, let him know how special he is. It may invoke some genuine tears on his part that someone would care enough. It's an old fashioned gesture to give someone flowers. Hide them and bring them out at the right moment. Example, if you're at a nice restaurant it has a bar, send him to the bar to get a cocktail for you(tell the waitress at first that you don't want one and then tell him you changed your mind) and when he comes back with the drink in hand, hand him the roses in exchange for the drink and give him a thank you for the drink and a big smile. He might just melt at that moment. That gesture is a nice ice breaker if done at the right moment. Us menopausal women tend to be bit gutsy and romantic on some things.

RE: War In Middle East 2012..? what do you predict?

The war is already going on in the Middleast now. It is called CYBERWAR, or aka HACKING WAR.

Israeli Hackers Claim to Bring Down Saudi Stock Exchange Site
by Elad Benari

A group of Israeli hackers claimed on Tuesday that they hacked into the websites of the Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates’ stock exchanges, Channel 10 News reported.

The hackers said the attacks came as revenge for Monday’s attacks by the Hacker “OxOmar,” dubbed the “Saudi Hacker,” who brought down the El Al and Tel Aviv Stock Exchange websites.

The Israeli group, which called itself “IDF-Team”, posted a message to the Pastebin website in which they claimed to have brought down the two sites “because lame hackers from Saudi Arabia decided to launch an attack against Israeli sites.”

The hackers added, “If the lame attacks from Saudi Arabia will continue, we will move to the next level which will disable these sites” for a longer period of time, weeks or even months.

Earlier on Tuesday, hackers claiming to be from Kurdistan or Iraq invaded the websites of the community of Shiloh in Samaria and of Israel’s ally Azerbaijan.

The “hacking war” began when a Saudi-based hacker published the credit card details of thousands of Israelis.

The same hacker later called on Arab hackers to unite against Israel, and focus their efforts on the websites of the Israeli military and security agencies. He also encouraged hackers to break into various Israeli websites and steal credit card numbers. “We will fight you and hurt you in any way possible,” he was quoted as having warned Israelis.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon’s site was also breached by hackers, who didn’t manage to do much more than put a 30-minute dent in the site's defenses. Ayalon’s site was back up and running normally within half an hour.

Late last week, hackers broke into the Israel Fire and Rescue Services website and put up anti-Israel text and images. This time, the hackers claimed to be based in Gaza. The hackers identified themselves as the Gaza Hacker Team.

The Israeli Defense Ministry has announced that it will establish a special cyber warfare administration to deal with the new threats. Hamas, meanwhile, has called for an escalation of hacking against Israel, saying these acts open “a new field of resistance and the beginning of an electronic war against Israeli occupation.”

RE: FYI Boban

You are as the British say, "Spot on" with your prediction of what Boban will say. wow banana rolling on the floor laughing

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Very much enjoyed Conquistador. Evidently, at some point someone put in the Hebrew subtitles. I had never seen it that way before with Procol Harem.

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Since you're a leg lover, do you have a leg lamp from the Christmas Story House in Cleveland? They probably sell them on the internet too. There is the thin leg and a heavier shaped leg lamp styles. They seem to be very popular. It's a leg with a lampshade over it. Ya put it in your window and let it be lit up at night. You will be the envy of all your guy friends no doubt.

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

I'm heading off to bed now and have truly enjoyed this walk down memory lane tonight and reading other people's postings of songs they enjoy. I just kinda sang a bit of the "naughty" Polka song, "She's too fat for me". OMG, it is a hoot of a song. I believe it is Frankie Yankovic and Drew Carey together cutting up a bit.
Will have to check again sometime later today when I'm not too busy running errands and see what other music people listen to for their trip down memory lane and whom they want to dedicate a song to.
Such a fun thread here and so very appropriate for the New Year. Should bring a smile to many of the CSers.thumbs up

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

43 yrs and another birthday. How wonderful MustB. Know that you are a proud dad. Next month, I will be a first time grandmother is all goes well. I know I will be getting "bubbie duty" at some point.
Seems like it was just yesterday when our children were babies and we were new parents. Where have the years gone?

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Wow, I wasn't sure I'd even hear that anyone from the Cleveland area who grew up with Polka was on CS. I'm actually from a small burg in New York and have been a midwestern transplant since 1972. Grew up with Polka, Big Band and of course all the music of the 50s,60s,70s, 80s and enjoy some of the music of today.
Lived in Cleveland for a bit on W. 150th and Puritas in the 80s and commute to college now from an hour away going east.
Is the Hofbrau House on East 55th Street and the German Center in Parma still around for Polka dancing? They had some live old time bands back then. If not, where can ya still Polka dance? I disagree that Polka dancing is not socially acceptable today. The problem is that our generation hasn't encouraged the younger people to learn and appreciate it enough. I listen to it on the radio and be bopp around in the car seat as I'm going along. Or I howl to the 60's and 70's oldies. People do kinda give me a funny look though as they see someone at my age cruising on by them singing and seat dancing with all the windows closed. If I see someone with their windows open and cranking up their rap crap music loud and annoying, I open my windows and crank up polka music. One time, a couple of young kids suddenly lowered their rap music and changed their station to Polka and blasted it. We had matching blasting Polka stations and we drove along side by side with everyone laughing and singing and cars around us giving all of us the thumbs up. These were kids in their 20s singing along.
Think they had some polka music up at the September Wooley Bear Festival in Vermillion along with their special tune Wooley Bully. You can better believe I was dancing in the street with everyone else. And I'll disco dance in the street too. This music is a good part of who I am.
Thank you for posting the sites.

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Aw Marss, this is too funny. When I think of Procol Harem, I think of their song "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". That's going way on back into the late 60s somewhat. I'm just an old soul I guess. But you really made my evening great and brought a big smile to my face. teddybear

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Any polka dance lovers out here tonight? I grew up with the Polka sounds. It is in my blood. If I had someone to Polka with, I'd be polka dancing as soon as I heard the sounds. Used to Polka dance in Cleveland in Slavic Village and in Parma back in the 1980s. To live band music too. Gosh, do I ever miss that. moping

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Marss, this is a terrific thread you started. It's so nice to have a happy thread to bring back some good memories of some good music and moments we shared with special people in our lives...some of whom are gone forever but never forgotten. A big thank you to you!thumbs up

RE: DEDICATE A SONG TO SOMEONE SPECIAL

Thank you HL. I had forgotten who sang this song. It is really a very sentimental one for me considering I grew up with the WWII generation parents in the early 1950s and we had alot of the oldies playing on our record player at the time.
This forum brought back the memory of the song from years back but I didn't recall the artist.
