Gosh Bohdi...I always pronounced your last part of your name as Piranha. Hence maybe your reptilian fish like heritage here as I thought that perhaps you are indeed a descendant of the missing link below:(4 The record, just friendly bantering with you)

(CNN)(Jan 8 10) -- Scientists have found the oldest fossilized footprints made by a four-legged creature forcing a rethink on when fish first crawled out of water and onto land.

The discovery of the footprints in a former quarry in the Holy Cross Mountains in south-eastern Poland are thought to be 395-million years old -- 18 million years older than the earliest tetrapod (a vertebrate with limbs rather than fins) body fossils.

The report published Thursday in the science journal Nature says the footprints of the tetrapod measure up to 26 (10 inches) centimeters wide, which scientists say is indicative of an animal around 2.5 (7.5 feet) meters in length.

The footprints are also 10 million years earlier than the oldest known elpistostegids -- creatures which displayed some animal characteristics but retained fins.

Philippe Janvier from the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, and reviewer of the paper told CNN: "It is a really stunning discovery because it's the earliest evidence we have of tetrapods. These footprints are clear enough to attest that tetrapods were there 395 millions years ago."

The report's authors say their findings "force a radical reassessment of the timing, ecology and environmental setting of the fish-tetrapod transition, as well as the completeness of the body fossil record."

As well as finding fossilized footprints, Per Ahlberg, Professor of Evolutionary Organismal Biology, Uppsala University, Sweden and his co-authors from the Polish Geological Institute in Warsaw also report finding several tracks of different sizes and characteristics.

The tracks, they say, have distinctive 'hand' and 'foot' prints and no evidence of a dragging body.

Ahlberg said in a video on the Nature Web site: "The trackway shows pairs of prints -- the sort of tracks a salamander would leave if it walked. In order to make tracks like the ones found you need to have front legs and back legs that are about the same size."

Ahlberg said the disused quarry where the fossils were discovered has yielded some of the most exciting finds he has encountered in his career as a paleontologist.

Although Janvier describes the lack of skeletal evidence as "frustrating" it doesn't undermine the importance of the discovery. "It changes what we thought about the evolutionary tree concerning the part dealing with transition from fish to land vertebrae." Janvier said.

"The divergence between the tetrapods and their closest fish relatives is much younger than previously thought and it obliges us to find actual evidence -- skeletons or complete fossils -- in much earlier strata that could enlighten us between this divergence."

RE: A Day In The Life Of A Sun Care Advisor!

You have a very good and valid point there Morgan. For many who do want to sunbathe, it is true that people do not use the correct protection and some use none at all. You have your work cut out for you for sure.

You will surely be very successful with this group of people. Hopefully, they will pay close heed to your advice or pay later on in life for their lack of better judgement in their earlier years.professor

RE: A Day In The Life Of A Sun Care Advisor!

I am of milky white complexion and have no desire to get a tan. Although when I was younger, I thought differently. With several skin surgeries to remove damage over the years, I have finally thought differently regarding tans.

My personal belief is, "If we were suppossed to become tanner safely without damaging consequences, then this would have been born into us with our genetics."

So I'm not so sure that even a factor 50 could stop the damage in the peak time of the ultra violet rays.

I'm sorry Morgan as I would not be a customer of a sun tanning product that claimed safety. I'm a sunburn magnet, even with a sunscreen and long sleeves on believe it or not. But that is all we have nowadays for protection so my time is very limited out in the sun in general until way after certain hours evencool

RE: GOD..can we talk about with.....

Hi Bodhiprana,

I notice that you and Stress often banter back and forth your different views. Sometimes, they become heated but in the end, I see you both respect each others differences.

It appears that both of you are only posting your belief systems and there is nothing wrong with that. You are both very educated people in my opinion. From some of the things I have seen you and Stress write, I have gone on to look up. And yes, you have both opened my mind to other possibilities of the unknown in our world.
I look on it as discussion, not debate. We are not in a court of law on the forums. However, some CSers do admit they are in a debate from time to time. And sometimes, the name calling starts getting nasty and vicious. Now that ruins the forum.

RE: GOD..can we talk about with.....

Thank you Steve. I strongly believe that each individual has their own personal journey in life in their belief system. It is not possible to actually verify or falsify the God claim. Each person's experience in life is only their own and that is what they live with in their own comfort zone.

RE: GOD..can we talk about with.....

This subject has been on this forums many times before. Each person has their own belief system about whether God does or does not exist.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to verification or falsification.
Everyone's personal beliefs should be respected.
In the past, this subject has gotten people banned as well as threads locked when religious fanatics bashed everyone else's views and insisted their way was the only way.
Read back over the lists of religion, spirituality and philosophy threads and you may find your answer to your forum question.wave

RE: Is there a nurse in the house ?

Jeepers,

Seriously, you better get yourself to a doctor and get on some type of an antibiotic. And then try some of the homeopathic concoctions that people recommend. But do check with your physician first to make sure there are no contraindications. Some herbal stuff works adversely with antibiotics and other meds.
Your immune system may be a bit weaker than usual with the cessation of smoking recently.
Don't wait and play around with this now as you are describing the congestion going into your chest area. If not treated properly, you could wind up with some permanent serious lung damage.
I'm a Registered Nurse with 20 yrs background in med-surg nursing and have worked extensively with geriatric populations and younger. It's basically all the same treatments and care when it comes to bronchial issues.
My advice to you is "Don't wait and play around with your lungs". It may only get worse or possibly get better eventually even without treatment, but you can have permanent damage.
BTW, overstressing on the lungs can also put excessive strain on the heart muscles too. Afterall, if you are not getting enough oxygen into your blood as a result of lung issues, then you also won't be properly oxygenating the heart and that can have some serious consequences.
I hope that this simple advice helps you in some way. The choice is yours. comfort

RE: Motown

Your right, Motown will never die. At least as long as our generation is alive and still revels in it. It was happy spunky lively sounds.

But when we are all gone, I doubt the younger generation can appreciate the beauty and depth of the music beat and the era and the dances the music started . These younger generations will enjoy the "rap crap" raggedy sound and call that music. These guys can't even sing so they have to mouth nasty words. Now that isn't music. They sound more like people with belly aches as they rap.

RE: The Path to Quantum Singularity

This is some wild stuff here you guys are talking about. I am more confused than ever after reading this forum to try to even understand the idea behind quantum physics. If all your ideas were put together in a Hollywood movie form, it would undoubtably be a blockbuster hit.

This is beyond Star Trek and Hal from 2001, A Space Odessy and those were big hits. I think you guys are on to something here. Where's the filmakers on this site?wave

RE: Do u think being friends with an EX is right?

Correction, I meant that he was now dying from cirrosis.....not he was no dying.(my fingers got stuck on the keys)

RE: Do u think being friends with an EX is right?

That is an act of kindness from the heart to be at your ex-husband's bedside at a very critical time and take care of him. My girlfriend, although remarried was at her ex-husband's bedside taking care of him in the hospital as he was dying from liver cancer. Her present husband encouraged her to do that so she would have closure in her life.
Although her first husband and her divorced, they had always remained friends. They were always in love with each other but could not live together anymore. He was not able to conquer his alcoholism and now he was no dying from cirrosis.
Her second husband and her had a fully 100% trusting monagamous marriage so there was no issue with trust. I have the utmost respect for her 2nd husband to love her so much as to allow her closure as her first husband was dying.
There are definitely good men still in this world and he set the gold standard for doing that small act of kindness for his wife. thumbs up

Now........ I know who stole my 1964 Chevy Nova and left it sitting behind a factory building in the dead of the winter.

So..........it was you all along Ooby! You bad boy!!

Actually, someone broke out the window and broke the ignition lock and just turned it on and took it joy riding I guess. Lucky I got it back in one piece. It was truly a fun car to drive.

RE: For those of you who believe in God, what else do you STILL believe in?

[quote=cu**il, I can deal with it. And I certainly believe you. I just hope atheists get a nuke first.

Geez, you must have some type of personal religious ego issue to bash atheists. You are a very sad individual to judge an entire group of people. When you wish such vicious harm to someone else, it usually has a way of getting you first. Sorry to have to enlighten you to this.

I believe you are an attention seeker and just trying to see how many people you can stir up in anger. I wouldn't doubt that you are counting the responses. The joke is on you though.blah shock

RE: what the most messed up thing you did as a Kid?

I was 37 yrs old and went down a children's sliding board on a Bruger King Restaurant playground on St. Patrick's Day after putting my son down the slide. My husband caught my son as we had planned.

However, I then decided to take a slide and went flying down it like a heavy albatross. Flew off the end and dropped out of mid air and came full force down on my left leg and broke it. Heard a loud snap!!

There I laid like a bird shot out of the air with a broken wing. And to think that this was on St. Patrick's Day....the luckiest day of the year in the United States.

What was I thinking back then?confused doh

RE: No Identity

Thank you for your comments. I had already contactd her in private too. I am guessing that she is looking for any ideas from all concerned as to other ways to find her birth identity.I have no doubt that I am not the only geneology detective on this website and she will get other people writing her too.

She is a true gem of a lady and a gentle soul too. She deserves to finally find her birth identity and get proof of it. It has to ba an empty feeling to know who you are but are unable to prove it. Hopefully, one or more of the CSers will steer her in the right path to go. There may be a variety of ways to get the same results.

No doubt, we all wish her the best and true success! Agree?

RE: No Identity

Sassy,

If you were born in 1949, then by all means insist on the 1950 census records. If your mom was single at the time, she may have been listed in the records living with her family and siblings. If you know the community, it is wise to literally look up her name as it was at the time. Then you may find yourself listed but listed in the census in age in months. I found my father listed by birth in months. If your mom stayed with your grandmother, then your mom and you would be listed under your grandmother's household. In that case, you would need to go to her name or her husband's name to find you.

Hopefully, I've helped you in some way. It is you who will ultimately find your actual birth in a record. I would love to be the fly on the wall when you find that record and the "aha!" moment comes over you and the tears start to flow. Perhaps the Freedom of Information Act will give you access to more records. Please google this act and see where it can be of some benefit for you.

RE: No Identity

What ways have you tried to get a birth certificate? Are you able to get your school records? My elementary school records were forwarded all the way up the line through Jr. High and were entwined with my high school records. There was even an old kindergarden picture of me with my high school records.

Surely there will be some record of your parents, their occupations as well as your birth age at a particular time in your school records.

My elementary school was demolished years ago but yet everyone's school records were not destroyed. Just a thought of another place to look Sassy.wave

I am a geneology detective by hobby as I traced my roots of my ancestors who came here. I had to find my family history identity when our family photos came up missing for many years. Through this search, I found my 1/2 brother that I knew existed but no one believed ever would be found. Yet, I still have not met him but we wrote at one point. Wondered who he was since my childhood. Searched since my 20s and found him in my 50s. So I do believe you will find your birth somewhere and get a long overdue deserved birth certificate.

RE: No Identity

Hi Sassy,

That is a terrible situation to be in that you are. True, if someone were alive that would vouch for you, you could get a birth certificate. But why did no one in the past vouch for you is rather odd in my opinion.

However, a federal or state census that might appear on ancestry.com might give some clues to your past. What about any church or civil records in your birth community that may prove who your parents were and how old you were at some point in time? Sometime this year, the 1940 Federal Census will be available. If you were born later, you may have to contact the Census bureau to try to get someone to look up later census records to see how old and where you were living at the time of the 1950 census. Also, the state census is done every 5 yrs in between the federal census so you would also be listed.

You shouldn't have to go through life with no birth certificate and a lack of identity. It is also important for social security records. Do you have a social security card?
