I'm not sure about how you know or what you do, but I do have a pretty good idea how it feels.
For me, it feels like what I imagine dying might feel like. You want to take one more breath, but you can't. No matter how much you want to breathe again, you've taken your last breath. You have to accept and - somehow - let go.
I wrote a song about it, called "Virtually Love."
Goodbye Forget me if you dare My lonely cries vanish in thin air My world may burn but you won't - won't even care
Goodbye Leave me if you can Your stubborn pride Defies a divine plan If I live forever I will never Understand
If he OBL was who the USG says he was, it would move heaven and Earth and possibly parts of the multiverse in order to capture him alive, because as the EVIL MASTERMIND of AQ (AKA 1984's Emmanuel Goldstein and his "Brotherhood"), the value of the information he could provide the USG would be beyond reckoning.
That they wanted to eliminate - that is, silence - him clearly illustrates he was not whom the USG claimed he was.
Well, let's turn your question around, J: What has the USG done to present evidence that OBL is dead?
Obvious evidence like photographs: none. SEAL video-recordings of the mission - none (though they exist). Third-party verification/oversight: none. Other witnesses (like wife, daughter, children): no testimony permitted. SEALs testimony involved in mission: not permitted. Third-party examination of the body: no longer possible.
So basically, the USG's evidence consists entirely of: "We say we killed Osama bin Laden." That's it.
So my question to you is, aside from your faith in the USG, what evidence do YOU have this actually happened (as claimed)?
What would it take to convince me? All the above: third-party oversight, numerous photos of body, eye-witness testimony allowed, and so forth.
For anyone lacking religious faith in the good word of the USG - and I most emphatically belong to that fold - we've been offered nothing of substance.
For you, Conrad, I'll throw in a perpetual motion drainage system so you'll never have to worry about the swamp filling up again (also, for a small added fee, I'll add a section of the Golden Gate bridge from which to view your new landholding)
You're welcome, J. It's the least I can do for someone who has such faith in good motives and truthful transparency of our military and government.
Well, it will be interesting to hear the details of the official account of the events leading to the alleged assassination and aquatic disposal of the dreaded Bin Laden (who despite brilliant terrorist masterminding somehow never made it to the FBI's Wanted List for crimes related to 9/11).
I predict those details are going to be VERY slow in coming, and that they aren't really going to be details at all; and further, what information that does emerge will not be logically coherent. (So far my predictions are 1 - 1; I predicted the body would be disposed of quickly without any clear public identification offered.)
We're really past each other, J (in case you haven't noticed), because we have radically different views of what's actually going on in our world vis-a-vis terrorism, geopolitics, the USG, and so forth). The scenario you're outlining above is highly unlikely, in my view. Rather, I would expect (another prediction;-) that intelligence units cut off from the mainstream military conducted a clandestine operation that will remain largely opaque to the general public and to general military personnel alike. Standard military units, largely if not entirely ignorant of what actually occurred, will be used as a front for this covert operation.
Hence, my offer for a great buy on local swampland, RD.
That swift "burial at sea," conveniently placing OB's body beyond investigative purview, is reminiscent of the FBI's lighting-like removal of OB relatives after 9/11 rather than holding them for questioning (also, the USG's swift removal of steel girders after the collapse, forestalling investigative purview).
Well, that doesn't mean he'd feel the same way about ALL places in Canada, no? If you moved to the States, there are plenty of places here you might not like as much, either, I'm thinking. Hell, I hate some parts of the States!
"Amerinadians"? Good one, E. (Thought "Americanadians" works pretty well, too, no - both words fitting whole together?) Makes you wonder if we weren't fated to be together?
I don't blame you, Al. Laura has that effect on a lot of guys. You just need someone like GG to slap you upside the head a few times and then your vision magically clears.
Another good catch, A. I think substituting "growing" lays the whole sentiment pretty bare. That's more what I had in mind than random "change" for its own sake, that's for sure. Not bad for a quick evening's work, my friend.
Ouch, indeed. So this was part of his pattern (escalating most arguments to yelling profanities at you)? If so, it's hard to imagine what you could do to help him (and I'm all for the idea of working together on problems - ask gg! ).
All you can do is what you've done, Nan. It's particularly frustrating, I think, when someone who has a problem like that also has many good qualities. But for you - and I think for most people - that's a deal-breaker.
My heart goes out to you. I won't say "I'm so sorry," because you might find that cliche rather annoying.
I'm guessing many of the single younger guys on here are now secretly rejoicing.
I just started reading this, and am wondering how long the thread continues in this vein.
I'm not sure quoting Charlie Sheen is the most credible debate-tactic, T.
For what it's worth, I think vaccinations have saved lives. I also think Big Pharma has cost lots of lives, and the current "drugs for profit" atmosphere favors foisting diagnoses and meds on a gullible public were the aim is not the general public's welfare.
I've had that fantasy for a long time - being able to reduce or enlarge as the mood and physiology suits. Actually, to some degree that actually happens...but not to the degree we're talking about. It would be interesting to see what size did work the best at various times. I'm guessing it wouldn't always be the same. We'll have to get Masters and Johnson on it!
The Goodbye Thread: How you Know, What you Feel, and What you Do, when it's Over
Thanks, Cherry. But I'm more interested in your and other CSers' experiences. What did it feel like when you knew that someone you had loved was no longer right for you? How did you know? What did you do?
I'm hoping you all suffered horribly so we can, like "misery," love each other's company.
