The people voted for Brexit. The politicians failed to deliver it (as those of us with any understanding of politics had been predicting since before the referendum even took place).
While the cartoon posted by Sawdust Molly was meant as a joke, there is a serious point in there.
It is "socially acceptable" for a woman to expect her man to provide for her financially. Yet it is not "socially acceptable" for a man to expect his woman to provide for him financially.
This double standard is one of the reasons feminism will never work.
This sort of thing is happening the world over and will continue unabated.
Eventually, Christianity will be banned altogether as "hate speech" unless it conforms to the government's PC agenda (as in Mainland China, where Christianity is banned unless it adheres to the values promoted by the Chinese Communist Party).
Personally, my concern is more that our neo-Marxist governing elite will use this incident to crack down on conservatism, and any non-PC thoughts and expression.
But there is definitely a possibility that this was designed to promote Islam. As I have said on these boards before, the alleged gunman had spent time in Pakistan, and may conceivably be an undercover Jihadist. On the other hand, he might not be. But either way, he has played into the hands of both the Islamists and the far-left PC brigade.
Hehe, no problem, ducky, I will forgive you for ruining my life.
But seriously, this sort of domestic issue is exactly what the USA section is for. Oddly, though, the issues that do interest the rest of the world end up in the USA section, and the ones that don't, don't.
I am familiar with the history of US-occupied Hawaii, and am well aware that the occupation and acquisition of Hawaii was clearly illegal in anyone's book. Indeed, even the U.S. government has admitted as much. It is a tragic story. Although what is done is done, and can hardly be undone now.
You are very fond of insulting and abusing New Zealanders. But the fact remains that, unlike Hawaii, the European colonizers did at least acquire this territory legally, from the previous occupants (the Maori, who were earlier colonizers - not indigenous as is often falsely claimed).
Very few people are either "pro immigration" or "anti immigration".
That is far too simplistic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to see a lot more immigration into my country. But of people who share the ethnicity and cultural values of the people already here. Sadly, most of those the government is importing, are not.
To be fair, all countries have censors, who rate movies R18 or M or PG or whatever. There is nothing unusual about this, nor sinister. Indeed, those of us who deplore the outpouring of filth on our TV and cinema screens actually wish he'd be a little more enthusiastic about his job.
What is perhaps sinister and inappropriate is his ban on the gunman's manifesto. To ban a document of a relevance to current events is, in my view, inappropriate, and sets a dangerous precedent.
RE: Brexit
Not sure that your question makes much sense. The people voted for Brexit. The politicians failed to deliver it (as those of us with any understanding of politics had been predicting since before the referendum even took place).
Really, that'a all you need to know.
