RE: Yellow vest bank run.

Most banks are closed on Saturday in France and those that do open in the mornings are so few and small as to have no effect whatsoever.
Oh and there is a daily limit on ATM withdrawal so that won't work either.
Better to make it today Friday, but please make sure Santander is left alone, uh oh

RE: Mattis Quit ... is the world

Yet a few minutes checking online shows this statement to be completely untrue.

Possibly the source somewhat embellishes and exaggerates non-newsworthy stories dunno

Because when posted they selected a different category from the political one, so if you post in say "Pictures", it will remain in the main forum index page.

RE: If saying "Siri", "OK google", "Alexa"....

Problem is not that these AI devices may be listening, it is more about the loss of reading/writing ability IMO. We can already see how some people cannot write a simple sentence without mistakes, or use sentence structure like “ur” “u” etc.
When they no longer need to write anything as they can use voice commands, how long before mankind loses the ability to read and write?
Communication is what separates us from most other animals, especially reading and writing.
To me, Alexa, Cortina, Siri are going to destroy human literacy and in so doing, is a step backwards to pre-caveman.

RE: Why Has My Thread About Microchips Disappeared?

Not sure what the problem is, threads posted under "current events & politics" are removed from the main forum listing and only shown in the "current events & politics" category. It has been like this for a long time now.
I'm guessing the site owner thought it was a way to stop the main forum area being continuously flooded with political threads.

In the main forum you will see a banner with a little house followed by International, USA, Canada, etc.etc.
click on the house "category"

scroll down the list of categories until you see "current events & politics" open that.

From there scroll down and you will find the "missing thread"

RE: Microchip Implants in Human Beings

As criminals become more and more technically competent, so they will be able to hack these chips, thereby stealing a person's entire identity with ease.
I couldn't give a flying fox if the government or advertisers want to know my location 24/7, I have nothing to hide. That anyone could steal my life history, bank accounts, etc.etc. is far more terrifying.
Or maybe someone desperate for money may think it is easier to chop off my arm and run to the nearest ATM, than just ask to borrow someuh oh

RE: Kurds deserted by the Americans.

Far from it, I can see clearly what trump has done, he has split a nation of decent people, he has lost support of allies that the USA may need in the future, he has created a based tax system that makes him money while does nothing for those in less high positions. He has claimed the ownership of the good that previous people started and denied the responsibility for anything that goes wrong, he has started a trade war with the worlds most powerful manufacturing base which will hurt the average man in an American street but not so much here in Asia (china is dropping the value of the RMB to allow a bigger market access around the world).
And worse he has caused the high and respected position of the US Presidency to be mocked worldwide and ridiculed by comedians far more than any other president or world leader. The list is endless!!!

As a bankrupt, he even thinks he knows the finance market better than the world top banking leaders, who are right now struggling to find ways to stop another depression, one that he has caused by his inability to govern and his stubbornness to actually listen & act, by those who know better

RE: Kurds deserted by the Americans.

So many curse and stamp their feet in a tantrum over Hilary, yet they do nothing. If there was any truth in the alleged criminal activities why are THEY not doing something? All they do is repeat lie after lie, twist facts to fit their agenda and then wonder why no one is listening anymore.
So instead of constantly saying H.Clinton is an evil woman and worse than trump, how about showing actual facts that can be used to bring criminal action against her.

I dislike the woman, no way would I vote for her, but the lies and untruths are just a total fabrication, unlike those building up against the moron.

RE: Kurds deserted by the Americans.

No, incorrect. American voters gave her more votes, the corrupt Electoral college voted against her.

As for the wall, if a wall can stop the USA government from creating wars and kept out of world politics, then I'll contribute to the fund.

RE: Kurds deserted by the Americans.

Clinton is not in the picture, irrelevant.
trump is the leader of the worlds most powerful superpower, he has the responsibility for the lives of the entire world, if he only cares about Americans then best that the "wall" goes up around the whole nation and the USA abdicates all responsibility to the rest of the world. Including the dollar!
It is not as simple as "America First" especially as he is really "trump first".

RE: Artificial Intelligence

Whiskey kills, it should be banned too
My uncle died when he drowned in a vat of Single malt whiskey, it was on his third trip to the washroom for a pee that he fell backwards into the vat only this time he hit his head and must have passed out.
He damn near destroyed the local crematorium too a few days later.

So keep away from Single Malt, it is highly dangerousscold

RE: Ocean Man: it’s said Hillary is too big for jail. Would potus Trump be in jail if Hillary was potus?

Probably, not sure he actually knows who the Clintons are, he is better with cartoon characters, like Daffy Ducklaugh

RE: Ocean Man: it’s said Hillary is too big for jail. Would potus Trump be in jail if Hillary was potus?

Would potus Trump be in jail if Hillary was potus?

Why would anyone bother with a loser like Trump? I would think whoever was President would have more important things to do than waste time on someone as unimportant as a failed estate agent.

RE: Imran Khan: Five things to know about Pakistan's prime minister

Heck of a lot better background than a b grade reality TV personality with an ego the size of Russia.
And certainly, Imran has far better qualifications than many world leaders. His background will allow him to use the best the west can offer while preserving his traditional culture and improving Pakistan.
I would vote for him.

RE: Class system.

I would think most countries have some sort of class system, there will always be those who rule and those who obey the rulers, by definition that will create a class difference.

RE: Ruin Thanksgiving in four words

Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. Some built Christmas pyramids of wood and decorated them with evergreens and candles if wood was scarce. It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. Walking toward his home one winter evening, composing a sermon, he was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreens. To recapture the scene for his family, he erected a tree in the main room and wired its branches with lighted candles.

Most 19th-century Americans found Christmas trees an oddity. The first record of one being on display was in the 1830s by the German settlers of Pennsylvania, although trees had been a tradition in many German homes much earlier. The Pennsylvania German settlements had community trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted by most Americans.

It is not surprising that, like many other festive Christmas customs, the tree was adopted so late in America. To the New England Puritans, Christmas was sacred. The pilgrims’s second governor, William Bradford, wrote that he tried hard to stamp out “pagan mockery” of the observance, penalizing any frivolity. The influential Oliver Cromwell preached against “the heathen traditions” of Christmas carols, decorated trees, and any joyful expression that desecrated “that sacred event.” In 1659, the General Court of Massachusetts enacted a law making any observance of December 25 (other than a church service) a penal offense; people were fined for hanging decorations. That stern solemnity continued until the 19th century, when the influx of German and Irish immigrants undermined the Puritan legacy.

In 1846, the popular royals, Queen Victoria and her German Prince, Albert, were sketched in the Illustrated London News standing with their children around a Christmas tree. Unlike the previous royal family, Victoria was very popular with her subjects, and what was done at court immediately became fashionable—not only in Britain, but with fashion-conscious East Coast American Society. The Christmas tree had arrived.

By the 1890s Christmas ornaments were arriving from Germany and Christmas tree popularity was on the rise around the U.S. It was noted that Europeans used small trees about four feet in height, while Americans liked their Christmas trees to reach from floor to ceiling.
