He who argues with a fool is a fool.

I have been studying the difference in arguing and discussing for some time. I believe there is a difference. I am sure there are similiarites and differences in the two.

He who argues with a fool is a fool.

Thank you Cat and Nene. Usually my eyes don't show in pictures and I look like I am asleep, lol.

He who argues with a fool is a fool.

That was what we learned in the combative preventive session, today. The speaker of the class is a head nurse at a geriatric psyche ward. She said they get the hardest to deal with residents. Her nurses were trying as hard as they could not get as combative as the residents that they were dealing with who have different forms of dementia. I was trying to explain it to Kim and when I said it she asked does that mean that you are calling me a fool? I said no that it means if I am a fool and you argue with me that makes you just as much of a fool that I am. Eventually she understood what the meaning of the sentence was and the next time she got into an argument with her husband that is what she is going to say to him.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: how do u control ur anger?

That is healthy. thumbs up

RE: Where I've been..........

I having been battling it for 23 years and winning. I had an Indian female friend from Osawatami Psyche ward in Kansas. I got my 23 year chip from AA and my 23 key tag from NA two days ago. Hang in there it can get better even if it gets bitter to start with.

General MacArthur and Arnold Swartzeneggar made the same claim. I hope you enjoy your break. We will be here when you get back. Have a safe and enjoyable trip. The best trip is when you take yourself along.

RE: HELLO!! I`m new here

Glad you could make the trip. You are among friends.

RE: I feel poetic and nice tonight!

I became happy after my meeting, today. I was so stressed out before. I have had a good day since then. I was so afraid of not passing my tests because my job depends on it but I have passed the major ones. I have a high enough average by now that if the worse happens I will know that I have done all that I could do to insure the success of passing my tests. I told a lady who lent me some money for gas to get to the college this last two weeks that I have been doing the best I can but that the college is expecting miracles out of us. I am happy because I have dealt with the fear and met it head on. If it is meant to be then it will happen and if it isn't meant to be then I will just have to do something else for a living. I am not going to lose any more sleep over it and put myself into a panic attack for the next and last week of the course.

RE: Scariest....Funniest....and Sadest

I laughed all through the Exorcist but Freddy Kreugar still I won't watch.

RE: Cleaning the toilet

Thanks, Cat. I will keep this in mind. I just have my schnauzer. My cousin left a cat but I haven't seen it in sometime. I do miss it because mom said it was a great mouser. I met a lady with a schnauzer in heat that looked identical to mine but we had to have our schnauzer fixed when we lived in housing. I would love to have a bobcat because that was our class mascot and there are bobcats here. I don't I will get one though because they can be quite dangerous.

RE: What dreams may come.

That is totally awesome and a pleasure to read, James. I think you have captivated what my psychologist meant by my immature desire to be happy. I think I read one too many of Piers Anthony's books. With your name of Abracadabra I can not but think of Piers' one book called, "The Blue Adept". If reality is really getting to you Piers Anthony can really take your mind off it.thumbs up

RE: Acceptance

I like the individual unity better. If the ties that bind us together are stronger than the ties that would keep us apart then all will be well. I would have to be spiritually fit to be able to survive the peer approved separation. Belonging can mean separating from in the sense of differences. The differences can make us seem unique but the uniqueness might just be in our heads. Absense can make the heart grow fonder. One might have to separate from another so that they don't lose their individuality. I believe that the collective is a collection of individualities. Karl Marx's utopia makes sense in theory but the application of it did not succeed. A flower child is still a flower child whether in an individual state or in a collective state. A flower sometimes looks more beautiful alone than in a bouquet. But set in the bouquet right the flower radiates a beauty because it is in a bouquet with other beautiful flowers.

RE: What dreams may come.

Congradualtions. I am happy for you. I hope it pays off in profitable dividends for you. That is something to be proud of. Way to go.

RE: Bucket of Manure

Hey, walk in or stagger in. It is your choice. Hey, when you make it I will be there to help ya. That is unless you find the bar in heaven first and if I make it there and if it exists.

RE: What dreams may come.

Here is a question that I have had ever since my psychologist told me about when I was in a session with him many years ago. He told me that I have an immature desire to be happy. I have tried to figure out the difference of an immature desire to be happy and a mature desire to be happy. How is an immature desire to be happy different than a mature desire to be happy?

RE: What dreams may come.

I have read on these forums where people were attracted to each other online but when they met with that significant other that they seem to meet someone different that than the one they had conversed with online. That must have been a real learning experience for you. Sorry it did not work out for you but I am sure that you took something away with you from having that experience. I bet you have a set of questions that you acquired from that encounter happening.

RE: What dreams may come.

I would rather be turned down by a lady then to turn myself down by not asking if that makes sense.

RE: What dreams may come.

You have a point. After all it is more than just one involved. I really like that attitude. If it happens it happens and if it doesn't it doesn't. I watched this guy once ask almost every woman in the bar for a date. I thought wow that must have taken nerves of steel. But this woman came up to him and said you didn't ask me. He said sorry would you like to go out on a date. She said no. He said then why did you bring it up? Her response was because you didn't ask me. Eventually one took him up on it. I thought at the time that the lady that came up to him was being mean but later I thought that what she said made sense. It can be nice to be asked even if one does turn someone down.

RE: Verbal pet peeves...

Taking the server's vital. Hmmm, I can't find a pulse. There is no heartbeat and no respiration. Hooking up the Automatic Electronic Defibrillator. Clear everyone. Buzzzz. Thump, thump, thump. Inhaling and exhaling. Alright, the lifeform is responding. I can't wait till finals are over, geez.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Verbal pet peeves...

Taking very large hypodermic needle and administering it to the server. Ahhhhhhh, the server replies. Thanks, I needed that.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: What dreams may come.

I think reality is over rated. I think it is the Chinese who say the dream world is the real world and the wake up world is dream world. When you mix that with the virtual world and some good mind altering chemicals you can really enjoy the movies "Altered States" and "Videodrome". One can get lost in one's own mind. When you add in the mystical world you can get some real altered states. One can get satyrical, clinical and cynical to deal with one's feelings and emotions when dealing with this medium. I know I have drawed back when testing the waters. Is it nice and warm or am I receiving false data? Is it all in my head or is something really there? Are the feelings and emotions only felt by me or am I being scammed? Am I reading too much into this contact? Am I attracted to the person or just to their words? Has something been emitted to me and am I making too much of it? Did they really feel something for me and was too shy to carry through with it? Was it meant for me or someone else they knew before? Have they got me mixed up with someone else? Do I want the dream to continue? Is it better to accept a lie that I have manufactured or is it a lie and I just can't accept the truth? Have I been used as a plaything or an ends to a means? Did it even happen at all? Do I get angry or be thankful that I can still feel anything at all? I felt a touch. Does that mean that I might have extra sensory perception? Did they realise that they had touched me and drawed back? Yup, for me it conjures all kinds of feelings and emotions.

RE: No matter how far we are

I felt something reading that. Thanks for sharing, Rozebud.

RE: I Quit!

I will have to wait until you put your profile back to send you mail, Bob. It is good for poets to ask themselves why they write poetry.

RE: I expressed myself so much, until I made a difference without knowing it!

My friend, Taboon had to tangle with them. Cherie made Nene her very own vent thread a while back. I really miss working for Handicapped Services. My supervisor was blind and she had to proofread my Braille typing. I can remember her telling me that I didn't have to indent with Braille. Who knew? Then I would do the tapes for her. She would be interested about a book and I would read it onto the tape. I had to become aware of coughing, getting interested in the book myself, lol, and tonal inflection (if I had a cold it showed up on the tape). The department head went to bat with the college. She got the handicapped stickers for the handicapped people and got the college at Wichita in 1983 to charge violators for parking in handicapped spots. She got all the elevators, rest rooms and class rooms Brailled. She got the traffic light coded to Braille so Blind people could cross the streets by sound. I remember her ranting and raving to the authorities. Her rage was beautiful.

RE: I Quit!

Speaking back and forth in just poetry is cool and can be a real challenge. A kyrielle is written in rhyming couplets or quatrains. If the kyrielle is written in couplets, the rhyme scheme will be: a-A, a-A. There are a number of possible rhyme schemes for kyrielle constructed in quatrains, including a-a-b-B, c-c-b-B and a-b-a-B, c-b-c-B (uppercase letters signify the refrain). In the original French kyrielle, lines were generally octosyllabic. In English, the lines are generally iambic tetrameters. Here is one by Thomas Campion.

A Lenten Hymn

With broken heart and contrite sigh,
A trembling sinner, Lord, I cry:
Thy pard’ning grace is rich and free:
O God, be merciful to me.
I smite upon my troubled breast,
With deep and conscious guilt oppress,
Christ and His cross my only plea:
O God, be merciful to me.
Far off I stand with tearful eyes,
Nor dare uplift them to the skies;
But Thou dost all my anguish see:
O God, be merciful to me.
Nor alms, nor deeds that I have done,
Can for a single sin atone;
To Calvary alone I flee:
O God, be merciful to me.
And when, redeemed from sin and hell,
With all the ransomed throng I dwell,
My raptured song shall ever be,
God has been merciful to me.
