RE: I Quit!

Bobby, that is what I like about a place called poems and quotes. I can send you a link in your email here if you like. We have a one to five rating and a place for comments for each poem. We have poetry discussions. I have been intrigued by the Kyrielle format of poetry. We have very gifted young poets who start below the teen years and some old farts like me, lol. We have separate clubs within the place, too.

RE: I expressed myself so much, until I made a difference without knowing it!

My son had the grand mal seizures from Epilepsy. He was a smart child when he tried. When he took his dilantin and phenabarbitol it would help him. The doctors said he could outgrow it even though it was hereditary. I remembered when my ex had a seizure while she was driving and I was in the passenger seat. When all you have to depend on is you it does make you stronger. You have to take the initiative and make the difference. It can be strange when you are the parent and they have to depend on you. You have to trust what you are doing is the best thing. Going up against authority is sometimes unavoidable but they have to see your side of it. When I worked at Handicapped Services I met many people that had special needs. But many of them were very smart because handicapped people have to make up for their missing whatever. Working with them makes you more aware because you can benefit by overworking all of your senses even though you don't having the missing sense or disability.

I suspect many will be affected in a good way by your speaking out. It is good that you chose to do this. Your daughter is fortunate to have you in her life.

Does this Veteran's day seem different to you somehow?

One of her jobs was as a typist for Radio Tokyo. There she met American and Australian prisoners of war who were being forced to broadcast radio propaganda. Toguri scavenged black-market food, medicine, and supplies for these POWs. When Radio Tokyo wanted a female voice for their propaganda shows, the POWs selected Toguri. She was one of many female, English-speaking voices on Radio Tokyo, and she took the radio name of "Orphan Ann." Her POW friends wrote her scripts and tried to sneak in pro-American messages whenever possible.

After the war, several reporters went to Japan to find and interview the infamous Tokyo Rose, offering a large cash payment for an interview. A woman at Radio Tokyo pointed the reporters to Iva Toguri, and Toguri, thinking that she and her new husband, Felipe d'Aquino, could use the money, agreed to be interviewed. She even signed a contract stating that she was the infamous Tokyo Rose. A reporter gave the interview notes to U.S. Army Counter Intelligence, and in 1945, the U.S. arrested and imprisoned Toguri in Japan. She was released in 1946, but was arrested again in 1948, and taken to the U.S. to be tried for treason.

Her trial was considered the most expensive in American history at that time. The U.S. government stacked the deck against Toguri and her meager defense, and the judge later admitted he was prejudiced against her from the start. Toguri was found guilty of only one of the eight treason charges -- "That she did speak into a microphone concerning the loss of ships." She was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $10,000. Because she was a model prisoner, Toguri was released early in 1956, although she was served with a deportation order which took two years to fight.

In 1976, the TV news show 60 Minutes told the Tokyo Rose story from Toguri's point of view. This led to a full pardon for Toguri from President Gerald Ford in 1977.

Unfortunately, Toguri's husband was never able to join her in the U.S. They reluctantly divorced in 1980, and d'Aquino died in 1996. Iva Toguri currently lives in Chicago where she runs her family's import business.

Tokyo Rose is something of an urban legend -- a fictional person cobbled together from scraps of real history. There's no proof that such a woman existed, although one woman was convicted of treason as Tokyo Rose.
During World War II, American soldiers dubbed the female broadcasters on Japanese radio, "Tokyo Rose." It was a name invented by the soldiers -- U.S. government research never found evidence of a person named Tokyo Rose in radio programs anywhere in the Pacific. The voice of Tokyo Rose was said to have taunted Allied forces during the war, hurting morale.

Iva Ikuko Toguri is the woman who was tried as Tokyo Rose. She is a first-generation Japanese-American who happened to be visiting a sick relative in Japan in 1941. When war was declared between Japan and the U.S., Toguri was trapped in Japan and pressured by Japanese military police to renounce her American citizenship. She refused. Instead, she learned Japanese and took two jobs to support herself while she sought a way to return home.

Earlier I was listening to how it was first Armistice day. Later they cchanged the date for it. It was interesting to me since Armistice Day honored the World War vets. I can remember how the Viet Nam vet was treated like they wasn't a real vet by the older vets. My dad was in Korea and Viet Nam. My aunt had a picture of my dad with a Korean girlfriend. He had met her before my mother. Eventually, the Viet Nam vet got the recognition they deserved.

I was just listening to President Bush on the radio praising the veterans. My dad was a Veteran.

RE: KILIE IS BACK

Oh ok, that is different. (Now I am wondering who Kylie is. )

RE: Verbal pet peeves...

That is so gnarly, lol. I need to look up the word gnarly, lol. Surely, it means something, lol.

RE: KILIE IS BACK

I am so glad she is back. Who is she? lol

RE: Verbal pet peeves...

I used to hate the phrase, "Gag me with a pitchfork". I guess if I had lived in the San Fernando Valley I would be using their vernacular.

RE: Hi Everybody

Hey if I bump into someone I want to apologize. I feel like I am walking in the dark. The blind leading the blind seems so apt now, lol.

RE: Nature Force

My Acorn Tree
by RainbowSlider

Mightily you stand in my yard so free and tall.
I can't get my arms all the way around you at all.
You're a giant in my sky; The birds nest on you.
You feed the squirrels; I have been such a fool.

I thought you were rigid but your limbs bend.
Animals come to you; You are a good friend.
I wanted to cut you down; You blocked my view.
A wonder to me in sight; I have been such a fool.

Your leaves move in the wind; I am impressed.
You are greater than me and hold my interest.
A harvest you give; Acorns everywhere, too.
A mother and father; I have been such a fool.

You seem so hard but I know that you give.
Your bark is so rough and, yet, you still live.
The ground holds your roots; You are true.
Rocks you part gently; I have been such a fool.

You are a marvel to behold and I am blessed.
Nature loves you and I am just a lost guest.
I honor you great tree; I see you in the blue.
Your shade is a joy; I have been such a fool.

RE: First amendment and religion?? Your interpretation??

I think they should just call it what it is and that is commercialism. Why not just call it Commercialism Day and be done with it. Why have it cloaked like what has already been mentioned? This is a Capitalist government. Why be ashamed of it?

RE: Failed Relationships....

When I could no longer be who I am and had to conform in what they thought I should be. I could be me around my friends because they accepted me for who I was. I didn't have to have false pretences. I was just me whether acceptable or not. The relationship can change one. When a person goes into the we phase the singularity of one change be changed into the duality of two. The trouble of the utopian state is that there can always be one who wants to rule it. It can be hard to be a flower when there is a gardener to dictate which way your vines should go, pick your petals and not let you wind and grow naturally. The dynamics can be lost because like the flower it can fade when the flower is picked. Some have to pick a flower before they can enjoy it. They have to take it completely apart and wonder why it is beautiful rather to just accept its beauty. To them the flower must conform or it has no beauty.

RE: Whats you're thoughts about.....

Why does this thread remind me of the movie, "Planets of the Apes"? 'We worship the bomb. All hail the great bomb.' (Paraphrasing) I like where Charlton Heston lands on the planet and the statue of liberty is buried in the sand. He sys something to the effect of, "You finally did it."

RE: best song ever

I am fond of the song by Badfinger, "If you want it here it is".

RE: World unity... What do you think it will take to make it happen?

I think when we get attack by another world that this world might unite. Of course if another world blows us all up it all come apart, again. Peace as an evolutionary process might be worth considering.
