Don't answer the phone...

There was a time I answered every call. My position was sales manager and I had to communicate with new people all the time. It was time consuming to listen to a message and return the call when my preference was to catch it when they were on the line.

In the last 5 years the number of bogus calls has increased tenfold. Extended warranty warnings in English and Spanish, I'm looking for a house in your neighborhood, my business is approved for a 6-figure low interest loan. An election year and I've received more than 100 calls and texts from people... right up until election day.

Unless I'm actually waiting for someone to return my call, I'm hesitant to answer any unknown incoming call. Most of the caller ID have names now and 'Scam Likely' is usually on the header, but some discount carriers don't use that system.

Most everyone I know rejects bogus calls.

When I receive a solicitation call, I block the number. What happens then is my phone doesn't ring but the call is automatically routed to my message box and I get notification there. The computer generated 'robo-calls' are recorded messages repeating the same BS over and over. Since they can spoof the number they are calling from my phone sees it as a new number and the call comes through.

Don't answer the phone... it's no one you want to talk to.

Man injects himself with Magic Mushrooms...

News of the weird. A type of mushroom called 'Magic Mushroom' contains the psychedelic drug psilocybin which is meant to be eaten. Instead a man with bipolar disorder brewed mushroom tea and injects it into his bloodstream where the mushrooms grew causing his body to go into organ failure.
He's being treated with long-term use of antifunguals and antibiotics.

He researched how he could decrease his opioid use at home and read about the potential for psilocybin, the drug found in psychedelic mushrooms - also known as magic mushrooms - for treating symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Double you or double vee...

Depending on the font or if you are printing or writing cursive the letter "W" usually has a different appearance (pointed bottom or rounded bottom) but always has the same sound.
The word plywood in an English speaking country is pronounced as it's spelled... (with a double-you)
However, in some Scandinavian countries it's pronounced ply-vood with a heavy 'V' sound.

I ask myself what's correct W? Double 'you' or double 'vee'
Is it UU or VV a question I've been asking myself.

Word block...

Most sites I've posted to have some type of filtering. Different names for the same thing, it could be called word filtering, censorship, word block, and sometimes it's called annoying!

Profanity blocking tops the list, but all websites are not equal. We can say WTF on CS but a musician site I'm a member of doesn't allow that. You type WTF and your post will read: Oh my goodness.

Are you serious... they inserted Oh my goodness in place of WTF.

The military coined SNAFU and it's often used in TV news, newspapers and online news. Explain to your 10 year old what SNAFU means.

Lots of words get blocked here. The other word for rooster that begins with 'C' gets blocked by the filter. There's a famous British singer Joe who's family name gets blocked simply because it contains part of the blocked word. Depending on the website, that city in Thailand also gets blocked. You know, Bang....

If your name is Richard, don't expect your nickname (starting with the letter D) to pass the filter.

Buttocks... only the British version 'arse' gets through, the 3 letter word used in America is blocked. But you can say shit.

Oh, you graduated with honors? don't expect to be able to use the Latin word that goes with 'laude'

The 'C' word that describes some women won't make it through, nor will some body parts.

Consistently inconstant, but you've just got to work with it!

Creating your own microblogging social network site...

It wouldn't take much time and money to create your very own platform for microblogging social network site. You'll need to create and register your site name, hire an internet service provider (ISP) to host the site. If you cannot find 'canned software' you would need to pay a programmer to write the code. I've seen a few personal sites where people publish their information of writings, usually in the form of travel blogs with photos. This is all 'small scale' that would be under the radar (so to speak) of any FCC regulations.

To do this on a large scale with revenue from showing advertisements would probably require a legal team to be sure it conforms to some guidelines (that I have no knowledge of) especially when you have members who can post things (messages) to your site. Basically, I'm describing some look-a-like to Twitter. My guess if you come remotely similar to Twitter, you'll soon have their legal team contacting your legal team demanding you dismantle your site.

But, let's say you're different enough to be Twits on Twitter or What-an-ugly-face-on-that-book site and all your friends tell their friends who post the URL on some well known social media site(s) and within a few weeks, it's the clamor of the country.
Like Yowza... thousands are listening to your every word and you suddenly become the gospel for all good things in life!

All it takes is some money and time and a profile big enough to make it happen.
Checklist for success:
[ ] Money - as in unlimited cash flow to get started.
[ ] Time - you've go to know the right people to quickly get the job done.
[ ] Popular - you've got to be a household 'somebody' so your idea catches on.

I realize my outline is basic, but the concept isn't too far-fetched to become a reality for the right people or person.

Who knows, maybe a bookstore like Barns & Noble already sells books on Microblogging For Dummies...

Polished chrome...

Satin nickle finish for bathroom fixtures and cabinet hardware was popular for a decade. A few years before that it was polished brass with a few years of oil rubbed bronze. I've always resisted fashion and stuck with polished chrome and I see some of my clients are in agreement with that now. While all of the major manufacturers have a handful of different finishes, one of my suppliers only has polished chrome or satin black.
That makes it easy for me... chrome or black.

"The Game"

I went to the model airfield this morning to fly helicopters. Miserable winds gusting to 20 miles per hour made it better to sit under the shade and BS with the other pilots there. Two guys had their scale models out today, both were of the Aérospatiale Gazelle and one was in the yellow rescue paint scheme.

They only fly them once or twice doing very conservative scale-like maneuvers... nothing risky as a few completed models are valued upwards of $20,000.

One guy packed up early and I said "Are you leaving?"
His response was "Yeah, I gotta get home to watch the game"

My first thought was 'the game? you must mean the president and republicans refusal to accept the certified elections results?'

When I got home and turned on the TV, I see it was the Miami Dolphins football game he must have been talking about.

Different game.

Cilantro Garlic...

Dinner tonight came by way of Pollo Tropical restaurant.
They are a Miami Based company with dozens of location around south Florida serving Cuban style citrus marinated grilled chicken.
One of my favorites is their Cilantro Garlic sauce with lime juice. I've tried to find this product in the grocery store like Olive Garden... but no luck. Since COVID-19, they removed the drink and condiment stands so you have to ask and they will give out their sauces in tiny cups (with lids) so no one has gets to use the pump dispenser like the old' days.
I did ask if it's available in larger quantities and the cashier said, it's made fresh in each store and a large containers can be purchased.
$4.00 for a cup that's about 14 ounces. Deal!

No... I'm not addicted. I need more time for that.

Put the LIME in the SOUR CREAM...

Tonight was my first try making the cilantro lime salad dressing in the style of Pollo Tropical restaurant.
The sour cream was too thick an wouldn't turn in the blender, so I added more lime juice.
Oops... too much!
Some recipes call for cream cheese.
I added 2 lumps of cream cheese that helped to thicken the mixture.
It's still pour-able soft with bubbles from the blender.
I'm hoping the refrigeration solidify it and will get the bubbles out.

The flavor was okay, maybe a bit to tangy... too much lime juice.

Dog food not fit for dogs...

When I was a little kid I was told that dog food could be consumed by humans and it was on the law books to protect people too poor to afford 'people food'. Most of the information I heard was that dog food contained meat by-products. I take that to be ground bone, intestines, scraps of gristle, fat, cartilage and organs.
As I look back, I'm guessing most of that was something of urban legend with a high level of bovine feces. It wasn't important enough to research or dispute. I do remember a friend with a young child who was playing with the family dog and the two of them got into a bad of dry dog food. The toddler was snacking on the stuff and experienced no ill effects.

Today in the news I see the FDA recalled pet food after 28 dogs died.
According to the FDA, three brands of Sportmix products for dogs and cats made by Midwestern Pet Foods may contain potentially fatal levels of the toxin aflatoxin.

That article included a photo from one of the bags that reads NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

Until they sort out the FDA recall, they should be labeled NOT FOR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION
