Being Old Fashioned
I used to frown when people said I am conservative. I always saw myself a liberal and free thinking. After all, I pressed my students to explore and investigate the unknown; not to get stagnant. But did I practice what I preached? In a way, yes; I have a very inquiring mind and I always wonder what makes things tick but I seldom adopted what I have acquired in my findings.
I am resistant to change. My old habits die hard. I don’t like changes and I adapt to them slowly. I hang onto the values taught to me as a child, regardless of how the world has changed.
I have not used Windows 95; I stuck to MS-DOS. In fact, I still have a DOS simulator on my machines. When I finally accepted Win98, I stuck to it, bypassing Win ME as well as Win 2000 - when it finally arrived - going straight to XP. Now I’m still stuck with Win XP.
Oh, I looked at all the other platforms but I did not like them. I always had them on another partition and could dual boot with them but I never used it. I did not like them. Just like I don’t like Win Vista, 7 or 8. Now I have acquired Linux but I do not get as far as installing it. I still want to cling to Win XP.
While being conservative can create some stability, it certainly puts you in a groove that is hard to escape from.
Well, the weekend is nearing its end but enjoy the new week.

Good for you and don't change because I'm pretty much the same and I like me the way I am!
I don't believe in modifying cars. I would not even have dreamed of putting wider rims on my car when it is the in thing. My father explained the extra stress in the differential to me and I listened to him; right or wrong.
However, I did lower the suspension of my Ford Capri when I was in my twenties. It looked very good but I had to drive around a flat laying brick.
Another one we seldom see lately! Why are you so scarce?
Yes, I'm fairly happy with myself but I see so many things around me that I deem as wrong and yet everybody find it acceptable. Can I be the only one that is right while everybody else be wrong?
I'm more than happy with my laptop. I had an Apple before the PC came out and it gave me so much hassles that I never want to see a related product again.
But now you can see what my blog refers to. I'm clinging to old ideas that is no longer valid. The Mac has come a long way since the Apple but it still carries the stigma in my mind. I must discard the old ideas and preconceptions that are no longer valid.
Same with me, I hate getting new phones, computers, TV etc. that I have to set up.
In regards to values, I think if your parents brings you up with the right values AND gives you a good example, that will stay with us.
Exactly my sentiments and who has ever bothered with user agreements. I dissemble programs and even modify them (esp games) to my likes.
My pet game is Civilization and if MicroProse must know what I did to it, they will go crazy.
Yes, I realize that and I will even admit to Mac being the superior product but this is one of my preconceptions as well. I'm hooked to the Intel 80X86 family of processors and that is probably because I know them so well. I don't know the inner workings or instruction sets of the Motorola chips.
Tattoos just seem to be too permanent to be a fashion trend. If it could come and go with the fashion I may have gone for one myself.
Ja, ja , ja. Rub it in! You know how sensitive I am about my age
You're right and I don't think conservatism is bad either. But it inhibits progress, esp when you have too many redundant preconceptions.
Do you use dial up internet. Or Wirless internet? If So! You is up to the times....
You still don't get it. I am not talking about technology. I'm talking about my narrow views on everyday things like tattoos, body piercing, language use, etc. Anybody can use gadgets and still be behind the time in his thinking.
Nothing wrong with being conservative in your views...but sometimes it is good to experience being uncomfortable...I had a fear of technology but had to just get over it because I was going to university at the time and the old system was no longer in use...
um! Ok!.......................... geesh!
I hate the Rushing disease. I dont own a Car. I try and live with Nature and all my plants are Butterfly and Bee attracting and I keep the seeds for next year, frozen and in envelopes and packages.
I don't watch much T.V. nor spend too much time on the Computer.
Nozeal I agree with you, Computers are great at showing classes and Education facilities that are available.. there is good things about a Computer.
We're in a strange position today where individualism and liberalism themselves mean conformity.
Technology is progress. I like it but I am slow to adapt to other things.
That is no maybe. Sometimes I am as confused as a chameleon in a Smarty box.
