A trip to India's youngest luxury mall

While all would agree to the fact that the honor of being the grand-dad of all Indian shopping malls undoubtedly goes to the spencer's shopping plazza in chennai, the concept of an anchor store ie "everything under one roof" spread like wildfire only after 1991. And there was more on the platter - luxury retailing began with the opening of UB city in bengaluru in 2008.

Of late, something very strange was happening right here. With each passing month, the number of jaguars and audis and bmw-s were increasing and the owners of calcutta electric supply corporation took a quick note of that fact, and decided to build eastern India's first luxury mall in the heart of kolkata - the Quest. India now has got a whole dozen of luxury malls to her arsenal.

It all started with the universal marketing practice of "if you buy this I will give that free". I bought my all time favorite "sushi in wasabi" from Epicuisine, duly remembering the fact that the clever marketer has not at all forgotten to include the price of the much touted "free brownies" in the sticker price of the japanese delicacy.

What intrigued me most was the heterogeneous affordability that the mall was trying to preach. If you can't afford an armani or a burberry - you can still buy a samosa ( also at Epicuisine ) that costs as little as fifteen bucks and can go home with a happy stomach.

A lesson for life well-learnt, and often well-forgotten. Our stomachs are easier to please than our hearts - those bosoms that will keep burning with unfulfilled desires till the doomsday.

( Samosa is a popular Indian snack and doomsday is used as a literary expression only and to talk about any logical eventuality like a black hole eating the earth or a nuclear holocaust. The author does not believe in or endorse religious sayings. )

Indian cave paintings of aliens

10,000yo Indian cave paintings of ‘aliens, spaceship’ puzzle archaeologists

Prehistoric paintings in a cave in India may indicate that alien travelers visited the site eons ago, an archaeologist says. The paintings depict what appear as humanoids with featureless faces and a tripod object that could be a vehicle.

The peculiar find was discovered in a cave system under the Charama region in Kanker district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Preliminary dating says the pictures are at least 10,000 years old, reports the Times of India.

Archaeologist JR Bhagat believes that the paintings can serve as evidence of the paleocontact hypothesis, which says that in prehistoric times Earth was visited by members of an advanced alien civilization.

The Narsing Flower

Narkissos was a hunter who was known for his exceptional beauty. He treated those who fell in love with him badly because he thought he was better than everybody else.snooty

Nemesis, the god of vengeance, noticed this behavior and lured him to a pool, where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love himself. Blinded by his love, he jumped into the pool to get to his own reflection and drowned.sigh

According to the Greek mythology, this story can have several endings. In one such ending, one of his victims named Liriope, a beautiful river nymph, was overwhelmed by her grief. She decided to join him in death by jumping into the pool after him. She drowned but her soul was trapped in the water. Once again, the gods intervened. Her soul was immortalized into a flower bulb, which took root at the edge of the pool.sad flower

Not only the origin of a beautiful flower in the daffodil family, but it also gave rise to another term. Narcissus is the Latin form of Narkissos and is the origin of the term narcissism, a fixation with oneself and one's physical appearance.professor

Some of the symptoms:
1-Hypersensitivity to any insults or imagined insults
2-An obvious self-focus in interpersonal exchanges
3-Vulnerability to shame rather than guilt
4-Flattery towards people who admire and affirm them
5-Detesting those who do not admire them
6-Pretending to be more important than they really are
7-Bragging subtly but persistently
8-Denial of remorse and gratitude
9-Self lamentation and looking for attention when insulted

Before this starts a new series of self-lamentations, this blog is not aimed at anybody and I categorically deny having called anybody a narcissist. Don't wear a shoe if it does not fit.scold

That title is reserved for only me. After all, the mirror in my passage kisses me every time I walk by. All I need to do is to bend over towards it to kiss back.grin

A One-Night Stand?

The last time I wrote about this topic, I was chastised to such extend, that it led to yours truly (and a few others) being suspended for ten days. Now, in retrospect, I know that there was another motive behind the attack. So, while it is safe to go back into the water, exactly what is a One-Night Stand?dunno

The best definition I found describes it as a sèxual encounter without any future expectations or emotional commitment, lasting only one night..idea

It would seem that if the act is repeated in future, or if there were future expectations or emotional commitment, it no longer qualifies as a one-night stand.uh oh

But what if they separate as planned and ten years later, they have sex again? Is it another One-Night Stand or does the second encounter cancel the first One-Night Stand? Can the same two people have more than one One-Night Stands? Or does that classify under no strings attached?devil

If I understand this right, we cannot call it a One-Night Stand if the relationship was terminated prematurely for some reason while the couple had future expectations or emotional commitment at the time, even though they had sex only once.confused

Enlighten me please?help
