Zeelander: Not always.... hunting rifles also get handed down from generation to generation. I have a couple rifles that were my great grandfathers purchased in the 1920's and 30's... I still use them today.
They can CHOOSE to sell them to provide food for themselves or their family if that is the case.

You don't know much about the resale of firearms I take it... plus there is that old adage sell a guys gun and you can feed his family for a week, show a guy how to hunt and he can feed his family for a lifetime.

Is there anything preventing this hypothetical person from getting a job or preventing him from applying for gov't assistance? All viable ways to get money for food.

Da10th: However, that is a choice they'd choose to make, and has no bearing on the need or lack thereof to hunt. They would be making a concious decision to choose to go hungry instead of accepting assistance. Also, there are jobs out there regardless of how crappy an economy is, it's just peoples pride prevents them from taking them. It is better to bite your pride and provide for your family or if you dont have one, yourself with the ability to function in society.

You are right... there is a company here in Louisville that is hiring 300 people at decent wages. They don't think they will be able to fill all the positions due to lack of workforce that wants to work.

I am sure that if there was no other way to put food on the table for ones family, most people would accept assistance rather than starve.

I know many farmers up in Michigan and here in Kentucky who are paid by the Government to NOT grow any crops in their fields.... This is a Government who cares about it's starving people.

That happens because, if supply wasn't limited, the selling price would drop so low that the farms would go broke.

It's not a natural situation, it's engineered.

The whole idea is to make farming such a volitile risky business that all the family farms shut down and are replaced by corporate owned factory farms that make big profits by mass producing food.

But it's not healthy food.
Far from it.

I think that I have the solution.......for this anti gun/pro gun debate....

as I was reading the posts here.....I noticed net ad for Airsoft paint ball guns and ammo.

Maybe if we got everyone to think 'soft ammo' vs 'hard ammo'.......

agreed getting the bear to lay still after being shot with soft ammo while one tries to skin it might be a little hard to do.... and protecting your home during a armed home invasion with soft ammo could be a little dicey....and for the police answering a bank robbery with clocks loaded with pellets might not intimidate a robber very well.....

But look at the positive side for the anti gun people. They can say that they were able to bring about 'change' for the American gun owner....by changing them to soft ammo. After facing that still still kicking bear, home intruder, or armed robber....there will be a lot fewer American gun owners.

I never agreed with government paying subsidies like that. Especially to NOT grow food. They are too busy appeasing the commodities market more so than the food demand of those that could use the food.

I'm not against guns in the right hands(or left). US constitution states we have the right to bear arms, I would like to bare other parts too but I would be arrested.laugh In regards to you hunters, no problem here but not for me as I tried it once and a bear got me from behind and I dropped my gun and had to think fast so I reached underneath and played with it and he let me go, not to be discouraged I went back out and the same bear was waving for me to come back.rolling on the floor laughing
