deep past the arrival of eve's night
long after the throng of the city's holiday paraders have gone
he is left far from the crowd, hopelessness his only companion
the avenues mostly still, mostly silent
the homeless panhandler remains in an alley
set against a structure where it's exhaust vents release warmth from below
he is posed for yet another long night's passing
the only place available to him where a freezing death may not find him
sleep may or may not come for him
half a bottle of wine might offer some comfort, for a short while anyway
as he sips his salvation, he journeys in mind
on a road traveled often, destination never to be found
where his future may lead him, he knows not
it seems that he has always merely tried to last into the following day
with a grimace he muses of tomorrow
when the sun rises next, it will be christmas day
not the best of days for him
truth be told, it could be only the worst
for he knows very well what this will mean
that his usual routine of finding nourishment will not exist
there will be no bakeries tossing out old bread
no eateries filling trash dumpsters with food deemed unfit for customers
only a mere fragment of passers-by from whom to solicit
but most folks crossing his path on this day will be just like him
with little to offer, not even a smile
snapping out from his speculation, he hunkers down upon the grate
trying to escape the bitter cold winds that seem to blow through him
he has found something to concentrate on
this is all that he has
so, we should all take this little tale to bed with us tonight
and recall it tomorrow as we enjoy our great feasts
in the warm comfort of home, with family and friends
for under the fate of circumstance
…every man could be a homeless man

Frankenstein, Dracula, and their friend Lurch
Decided one day to go to church
They found intriguing the things they'd hear
The phrase body and blood
That really caught their ear
The blazing candles make Frankie nervous
The crucifix distracted Drac from the service
On top of that they didn't realize
It was Ash Wednesday
On to their surpise
They got the ash
They got the monster ash
The monster ash
They gave them out at mass
The monster ash
Right after Mardi Gras
The monster ash
They got the monster ash
It turned out to be a miraculous day
The three all repented and changed their ways
Dracula gave up sucking for Lent
If the Chicago Cubs did it
That would be an event
They got the ash
They got the monster ash
The monster ash
They wore them with panash
The monster ash
Lurch went back and asked for a mustache
They got the ash
They got the monster ash
Drac, you got something on your forehead
Let me get it
No, it's a smudge
Look in the mirror
No, you can't look in the mirror

About this poem:
This song is a parody of Monster Mash by Tim Cavanaugh. With Ash Wednesday starting the Easter holiday, I thought it was a funny parody.

Sunday morning things are kind of slow,
sun is shining what a beautiful day,
time to get my sunday dinner on the go,
no one to interfere having my dinner my way,
Hmm the smell of Roast Lamb in the air,
vegetables all prepped and steaming too,
the cat sits and waits patiently for her share,
hate cooking for one always prefer for two,
Looking through the door at the lush green grass,
please just another day or two of dry air,
can get the mower out and cut it at last,
so quiet and peaceful be nice to share,
Plays a little music to lighten the mood,
Beautiful South some soulful tunes,
stomach is rumbling looking forward to food,
another week gone by like climbing sand dunes,
Should have really gone to church,
but time and distance has eroded my faith,
I no longer have it in me for Gods love to search,
conviction has gone for me to be at the pearly gate,

About this poem:
Another rest day bit like a holiday for most, many spend this day in praise of the Lord or with families, friends, loved ones. Many also spend the time alone with their thoughts, maybe no home, no refuge, no tangible meaning of life but we all exist, I can eat my fill but others cannot and even having faith or not life trundles on like another Sunday.

That time will soon be right,
for some of us and maybe more,
pack that lotion ready for the flight,
for the location with Sun that we all adore,
Sitting here in miserable weather,
cold and damp makes you want to explore,
wrapped up in that eider feather,
dust off those blues lets head for the door,
Feeling the suns warmth ray,
walking across those silken sands,
looking across that beautiful bay,
if in luck maybe hold someones hands,
Dreams of such make a daydreaming day,
especially when looking at the snow and ice,
hoping your health stays together you pray,
Oh its` so cold now maybe I will go twice.

Feeling the cold a little, old bones so thinking of somewhere nice and warm. Some of us will already be well ahead of the planning stage and looking forward to the day of flights.

The new year has come
and the old year come
to a close.
What a bang it came
in with.
Did you make gaols
for this year?
Did you make resolutions?
Watch the ball drop.
Enjoy the count down.
This is a new beginning.
A clean slate is set
out in front of you.
Aim for dreams that were
once deeply buried.
May this new year bring
many adventures that will
challenge you this year.

On the road to no where
To the very end
A sign just read
Lands end
No where else to go
The road just falls away
Rock and cliffs
Beneath your feet
All the rest fall into the sea
flying above seagulls
The sunshines
The skies blue
The glow of the sun
A cafe to rest your weary feet a small shop to by a gift to take away
To say you been to lands end
To visit for the day

Snow Flakes Playing!
Snowflakes swirling merrily, happily in the snow filled air
Circling tiny dots of wonder covering up the undressed spots,
The drabness of Winter’s earthen bare
Whirling in a circle, landing not knowing where
Creating wondrous dance lands for the Fairy Queen
over which she doth realm
Her beautiful snow land, which she now calls home
Magic transformation for both you and I
Snowflakes falling happily, from the awesome snow filled sky
Dance with the snowman way unto the night
Imagine such a delightful fantasy land, such a happy sight
You with sparkling shinning icicled tiara
and he with his majestic simple broom
Such a handsome picture with you as an ice maiden snow Princess and he your snowman groom
Dance with the snowflakes before they go away
Flitter like a snowflake and have a wondrous day!

I wish for all CS poets a happy new year
May 2013 be a year filled with joy and cheer
Certainly there will be a few scares and tears
But the Gods won’t give anyone more than he can bear
Take time to hug and kiss the one you hold dear
Those that can and have time to spare
Share with a friend a jug of beer
May you from time to time go out and dine
Never forgetting the difference made by a bottle of wine
Seeking good for others may you always be inclined
And with the ones aspiring to reach the stars yourself align
May you never to hopelessness and despair ever resign?
Always expecting your endeavors to be a gold mine
May 2013 be a year that turn out just fine

2013 is at its end
days and words gone
I celebrate alone
it is quiet
quiet is good...
I light a candle.
What the New Year will bring
I do not know
only God knows
my life for Him to know
I cannot know.
Whatever I did was wrong
this I know
whoever I met to forget
I know
Everything was for love.
Love is why I'm here
love is why I believe
anything can be achieved in life
New Years most glorious light
is sweet hope
2013 is gone
dead is the year...
