Turkey

Don't eat me!
Eat something else
How about some tasty venison
You are going deer hunting today
They cause a lot of car accidents
How many turkeys have caused injury?
None that I know of!
We want to be free
We don't want to be stuffed
This Thanksgiving tradition needs to stop
There's plenty to eat without me anyways
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Stuffing
Pumpkin Pie
Cranberry Sauce
Green bean casserole
And sweet potatoes
Give turkeys a break and have a happy Thanksgiving!

About this poem:
Celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday by deboning a turkey today. It is the only time I buy a real turkey. The rest of the year I just buy it in a package already formed into thin slices.

Christmas Quandary

'TWAS A WHILE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

'Twas a while before Christmas
For me and my spouse.
She searched all the catalogs,
And I scrolled the mouse.

We're looking for something
That we thought would do,
As great Christmas presents
For each of you.

Try as we did
'twas not to avail,
Though all of the stores
Had wonderful sales.

Yet - just before Christmas
We're still with all doubts,
As to what sort of gifts
We are thinking about.

We pondered and stewed
About what we could do,
To find the right thing
That would suit you.

What if it's something
That you'd never use,
Or - 'cause you have it-
What could we choose?

It's such a dilemma,
It's caused much concern,
We wanted it personal,
And not for return.

The decision - quite taxing,
We're at our wits end,
Please don't be offended -
With something to spend.

Halloween Challenge Reply

May the ghosts that rise to meet you
Just be the kids from down the street
May all the monsters at your door
Be there to trick-or-treat
May the eerie glow
You see at night
Be jack-o'-lanterns grinning

And, above all,
Hope the day is happy-
Right from the beginning!

Bali (Trip 2 - circa 1992)

My next trip to Bali - I was twenty-four
Going there again with a few mates.
We each had a room (like the time before)
I'll not bore you with flight details commonplace.
Returning on a holiday to score
Some p*ssy and drink till we're off our face.
We had spending money and a cheap airfare -
All I'll say suffice to say we got there.

Arriving on the beach in steamy Kuta
To watch a sunset dying in the west.
Sipping Bintang beer in a pool bar
(Memories I made there were the best).
Knowing that I was now from Sydney far
It was time to settle in and to get pissed.
To tie one on but not get truly rotten
The smells of Asia not quickly are forgotten.

The first girl I met her name was Donna
(An Aussie girl from Broome as I remember)
And that first night I certainly got on her
(It's hot and dry in Bali in December).
By the pool at 3 am is where I saw her; -
I invited her into the balmy water;-
And now I'll tell you something really cool -
In two minutes we were at it in the pool!

The next night was quite different I tell you
A moon came up full wan wild and wicked; -
And having nothing better now to do
Went out again intending to get shickered.
Now by myself (not with the other crew)
The meal cart's cooking fires brightly flickered.
Next something now that I won't soon forget -
I think the chef put mushrooms in my omelet!

In half an hour I was feeling strange
And went into an expensive nightclub.
I lay upon a sofa on a stage
And watched the moon shower silver from above.
Now trapped in a bright psychedelic cage
My senses one by one had taken leave; -
The music they were playing - the Eurhythmics
I heard the gifted voice of Annie Lennox.

On the stereo, Annie sang her song "Why"
Why indeed? I ask now (taken deeper).
I looked into the silver moonlit sky
The trip upon me (and my will grows weaker).
Something strange now (like this poetry)
To wake now from a dream (but not the sleeper).
I stared transfixed at the black silhouette
Of palm trees edged in moonlight (stranger yet).

The next day I didn't feel so good
(I muttered curses underneath my breath).
I thought about it - and I really should
Have had police arrest that wicked chef.
If I could find him - then I surely would
Have told them all about his bad omelets.
I searched about in every street canteen -
But nowhere was the scoundrel to be seen.

Well not much more to add now - two more girls
Both were Indonesian and were prozzies*.
Just names on a list now - that is all -
(In Bali there are worse things than the mozzies**).
A strange holiday in a place tropical -
Tourists on the beach in skimpy cozzies***.
Eight days of sun, and then time to go home -
The weirdest holiday I've ever known.

Beware, Beware

From shadow to shadow they creep along
With only one thing in mind
Dripping fangs or rotting flesh
And bandages wrapped around

Some together in a group
In unity is their strength
Others hunt all alone
Or some two by two

Beware if they should espy you
No mercy will be given
They will hunt and corner you
Until they have satisfaction

You've been warned, beware my friend
No safety behind closed doors
Even there they'll hunt you down
And gleefully shout, "trick or treat."

Bali (Trip 1 - circa 1990)

Well so it was the plane was born aloft -
Goodbye Sydney (if only for a week).
Tarmac vanished as up into the soft
Clouds the big bird flew (we felt like sheikhs) -
Not like jaded jet setters (who did this oft);-
So happily we settled in our seats; -
Five mates from QANTAS - and of course was me -
(The author of the poem that you now read).

At twenty-two, the blood's a lot more racy -
Unlike a good red wine (matured in vats); -
Accordingly, my verse will be more pacey -
Not Gothic all (like castles full of bats).
Fluff-white clouds in contrails of white tracery
The plane a dart conveying young root rats; -
In ways quite similar to Spain's Ibiza
(At any rate, the plane sped through the ether).

Six hours of flight - now coming into view -
Our destination end of this flight path; -
(No doubt the hosties and the other crew
Were grateful for the respite) the aircraft
Sallied through the tropic air below -
Descending now quite quickly (for and aft).
And having now have flown just so far
Touched down on the strip at Denpasar.

The tropic air - it hit us like a furnace -
(The dry season is mid to late December)
Wherein these climes the Sun will surely burn us
(If the sunscreen we do not remember).
Customs were cleared - the airport now behind us-
Thus six young men - who newly now made friends were.
We were bound for cheaper hotel rooms -
(Later Bintang beer and magic mushr**ms)?

Out now on the piss (and this was typical)
Of other days to follow that one night.
Serving like a kind of analytical
Introduction to the secrets of the night.
A story I now tell - so listen up you all -
(I wish not gentle muse to now a fright).
Though basically such pickup skills at Kuta:-
Get pissed with a sheila - and then r**t her.

This brings me to the climax of my story
Or many yet to come as you will see.
Young love in all its raging steamy glory -
An Aussie girl (called Robyn) by the sea.
Drinking at a nightclub made us h*rny -
(Both sinking six or seven beers with glee).
Thus commenced our loving by the ocean -
With perfumed oils - that she wore - as a lotion.

The nights that followed were without result -
(Though not for lack of trying on my part).
And reading now my stars in the occult -
I see the perils - of following - your heart.
Well maybe in those stars there is a fault; -
Though I must say (as I soon depart) -
The last girl was a local - called Renee -
So for one night - t'was money I did pay.

My neck the morning after nibbled raw -
(At least I wasn't bitten by a monkey).
Other parts - suffice to say - were also sore -
(So moving right along now with my story).
You may say that this behavior you deplore -
(Though what I say is typical of Bali).
Six young men with tans - and with sunburn -
To Sydney now reluctantly return.

Memorial Day

When you died
Where did you go?
That should be in the obituaries
How did you die and where did you go?
I wish the dead could really talk to us on Memorial Day
Tell us what heaven is like
Or hell
Or some place else
I think of Chis Farley, Prince, Michael Jackson
My grandma and grandpa
Deon Clay, my cousin who died in an automobile accident in the 80's
There have been around 100 billion people who have lived and died
Do they all get to meet each other?
I go to the grave sites and look at my grandparents, my uncles
My godfather, by sisters who died at birth
What happens to newborns?
Do they grow up in heaven until they reach the age of 21?
Do all people who are old when they die get to look 21 again?
So many more questions I would ask the dead
The ones who are living on the other side of life

POEM FOR IRELAND

The mist gently caressed the hilltops,
like roving hands on a lovers breasts.

The river sang to the pipers tune,
from the morn until the noon.

New builds stood alongside old,
relinquishing not,
lest their luck did not hold.

Many a shade of green stood boldly,
on horizons of stories unfolding.

The boat swayed gently on the loch,
to yeats poems of faires
and children lost.

His loves lament hung in the air,
as if it was his silent prayer.

Oh Ireland with all your mysteries
and beautiful tunes.
Your stories of fairies and leprechaun's,
I will for sure visit you again.

For the lure of greens
and songs and prayers
will linger for many a long year.

A Valentine's Day Wish

A Valentine's Day Wish is what I send each of you. All wrapped up in Chocolate, A hug and kiss too. Because you are my Blessed Poetry Family, I not only send my love, but much chocolate and candy.

I wish you all the Best when Cupid comes by. And believe me true love awaits throughout eternity. One day love will come our way. It will be the truest love one would ever hope to forever stay.

To those as myself who will be alone on Valentine's Day then just
devour all the chocolate in the house ( Oh Did I mention Chocolate or Candy? ) Well shame on me! Ice cream with whipped topping. Now that's a good one. Worth never stopping.

Take care and make your own fun. Enjoy the LOVE. Tell that sad stranger that love is abound. If you keep the faith your special love will soon come around. It's when you quit looking he or she may be found. Give you family and friends a call. Tell them you love them one and all.

Let Your Heart lead for more than A Special holiday. It would make all happy if you'd be their Valentine. If only for a day. Say those words each of us long to hear. "I Love You My Dear".

2015

Another year in the can
What did I do to prove I'm a man?
I golfed every course
Eating at many different places because I love food of course
I bought three Mama's Family on DVD
I bought a new record player for me
I made the most money I ever made in a year
I couldn't find any new music I love to hear
I did buy Piano in the Dark by Brenda Russell
I also got Make it Real by The Jets, cause they know how to hustle
I went to a Packer game
105 bucks a ticket? That part was lame!
I went to a wedding of a friend
I choked singing "The Girl Is Mine", more courage is what I need
I saw Star Wars and Mockingjay
They were both good, I don't want to give anything away
I hope 2016 is good for you and me
Who knows what new fun things you and I will see
