If The Dead Could Speak

I wish that on just one day of the year the dead could speak
What would they say?
What would my relatives say to me?
What would my grandparents, my uncles, former classmates say?
There are over 100 billion people who have lived and died
The stories they could tell about the time frames they lived in
My cemetery in my home town has birth dates from the 1880's
The newer ones are put where I used to practice golfing
Would they warn us of what their bad decisions led them to
Would they be speaking from heaven or somewhere else?
Did they all make it to heaven?
I know I won't know that till I die
I imagine you get to meet people from the past
Especially the famous ones like Michael Jackson

Christmas

It's time again to enjoy the best present
Ten days off from my crappy job
Ten days away from mean people
Ten days away from multinational corporate greed
They haul over 570 million out of this place a year
The employees get four percent of that
Where does the rest go?
Where does the rest go from all the factories around the world?
What kind of Christmas are all the factory workers going to get?
Are they going to get ten days off too?
Or are they just going to get Christmas off if they're lucky
I'll bet a lot of them have second jobs and they never get a day off
At least in other countries they have national health care
We have horrible health care coverage
One employee got hauled away in an ambulance because of lifting
Now he has to pay a 20,000 hospital bill
His story is one of many
He gets to pay all this money the company should be paying
And the manager of this place dresses up as a penguin
And gives out small candy canes
I'd like to tell him where to put the one I got!

Christmas blues

The house is filled with Christmas cheer
The lights on the tree twinkle like a star
The candy bowls are full
Yet my heart feels so bare
I’m just not in the Christmas spirt this year
I hung the stockings with great care
The kids are grown
They’ve all left home
No more babies or kids running around
As I sit here I frown
This year has been hard
I’ve let down my guard
Now all I do is sit in the yard
I pray that tomorrow will bring a better day
And my heart will be filled with Christmas joy
Maybe Santa will even bring me a toy

Thanksgiving

It's a holiday coming up real soon
It happens every fourth Thursday in November
For me it's about the helium balloons
In the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Power Rangers, Pokemon, Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Trolls, Angry Birds, Ice Age Squirrel chasing the acorn
Spongebob, Elf on a Shelf, Hello Kitty, Ronald McDonald
Koolaid, Paddington the Bear, How To Train A Dragon
Pillsbury Doughboy, Yes, Virginia There is a Santa Claus
Then there is the football games
Always one with the Detroit Lions
Then we eat a real turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce
Green bean cassarole and pumpkin pie
The story of the pilgrims being helped out by kind Indians
Each sharing a feast
Each thankful to be alive in this new land
May your Thanksgiving be a joyful one

The Shining

The story of a man who goes insane
He tries to murder his wife and child
But only ends up killing a black man and freezing to death
Lost in a hedge maze
But is this story that much fantasy?
What about the killer in Las Vegas?
What about the countless nameless victims all over this land
People who's only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time
What is the solution to all this madness?
How do we create people who don't go nuts?
Or people who are totally sane but still commit horrific crimes
Fathers who are nice to their children
That would be a start
And mothers who actually think ahead and have kids they want
And kids they can afford to have
Gun control
I don't own a gun
Because I don't believe in pointing a deadly weapon at any one
I don't believe in taking them away from people though
Cause then only the criminals would have guns
Chicago is a good example of this

About this poem:
Finishing up the movie The Shining and thinking of all the talk about the massacre that happened Sunday night in Las Vegas. I love how the family acts totally innocent, they did have some influence in how he turned out.

Mum..

For all the things that you do for me,
For being my rock and crutch,
For always caring and believing,
For loving me so much,

Through all the mistakes and ups and downs,
You've always been by my side,
For showing me how to live and love,
For being my council and guide,

My conscience, values and principles,
All the goodness that I possess,
These gifts that you've taught and shown,
I'm able to honour and express,

On this day and every day,
I'll always be your loving son,
Thank you for each and everything,
Thank you for being my mum.....

Monster Powers

Djinn, gets power from wishes, but always twists them to hurt the person wishing for something, then steals their soul, the one who releases a Djinn can grant him power over all souls if they ask three wishes.

Leprechaun, gets his power from his gold coins. If you find one of his coins, you get any wish you want, but the Leprechaun will try to kill anyone who takes his gold.

Gypsy( From Drag Me To Hell), can send you to hell in three days if she curses some object you own. Up to being dragged into hell, you will be tormented by demons who show up randomly and more often the closer to your departure to hell.

Pinhead, has the power to take you to hell to be ripped apart by giant fish hook attached to chains. He can only harm you if you open the box, with the help of his fellow Cenobites.

The Blob, starts out as a small bit of goo, but grows bigger as it eats more people. It is able to completely eat a person in seconds as it completely covers them and then begins dissolving their victims.

Damien, this child has the power of evil and will kill anyone who might harm him. Being the son of the devil, he will grow up to destroy mankind.

Alien, after attaching itself to a human host, the alien will pop out of the victims chest and then molt a few times to become a big killer with acid spit, protruding teeth, and a whip-like tail.

Money I've Spent on Christmas

It all started around 1980
I got my first money for Christmas shopping from muskrat furs
At about five bucks a fur
I cashed in around 40 of these to get around 200 dollars to spend
I had my mom and dad
My nephews Shane and Aaron
My brother Rich and Deb
My grandma
My brother in law Rick
My sister in law Marge
I continue to shop for my nephews with Casey and Adam added in 1982 and 86
I do all my shopping on November 1
This leaves me the rest of the holiday to focus on Christmas music
Christmas decorations and movies
I have gotten my money from mowing yards, aluminum cans
making cheese, washing dishes and pans, making fast food
Teaching kids, shipping bacon, and making muffler parts
36 years so far of Christmas presents
My favorite from 1982 I got was a stereo
The 8 track is the only thing that still works on it

About this poem:
Just thinking back to all the Christmas presents I have bought. My favorite ones were for my nephews because I could get creative and have fun with it. I got a game one year where you pull boogers and try to keep the brain from popping out of the head.

Silent Dreams

Its Christmas time and there’s no need to be afraid
An amazing line of a song
From a time when people came together and changes were made
We all watched our screens together we sat totally engaged
We all came together sitting and watching we were enraged

The plight of the people and the tears and screams
The horrific pictures across the world they beamed to our screens
A human cry for help
A voice to those who previously only had silent dreams

We pledged our help
We shared our small bit of wealth
We looked at ways to campaign and we raised
We did all this together so we could send aid

We did this because we believed
We believed times would change
We believed that all life’s essentials
Never again be out of any human’s range

There’s a world outside your window
It is a world of dread and fear
It is a world invisible to our eyes
And when it shouts out we tend not hear

It might snow in Dublin this Christmas time
If not, it will be cold
As we wind down on Christmas eve night
In the warmth of the glow from our Christmas tree lights
We go to our beds and rest our heads
Waiting for Santa to leave presents at the bottom of beds

There’s a world outside your window
It is a world of dread of fear
The only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
The Christmas bells will ring but they will not bring cheer

It might snow is Dublin this Christmas time
They may not get a gift this year
From side streets and shop door ways
They are all potential homeless graves
Christmas night thank god, it’s them instead of you

Remember a time when we all came together
Maybe we can share instead of pretending the problem is not there
A little happiness can replace despair
Tears of sadness can be replaced by a happy face
The smallest gift the smallest donation
Can give the homeless of Ireland a Christmas to remember

The Feast

The devil sets the table every day
A huge feast of the best foods you can imagine
Steak and lobster
Chicken breasts and French fries covered in cheese and bacon
Pizza with sausage, pepperoni, green olives and mushrooms
Cheese burgers and tacos
Chinese food and barbeque ribs
All of this and more
More than anyone could eat
Only
You have to use a four foot long fork
Only this utensil can be used to eat
The devil laughs at the people
He laughs at them starving in front of all the food they could ever want
In heaven the same feast is prepared every day
The same rule applies
You have to use a four foot long fork
Everyone gets plenty to eat
Because they have learned to feed each other
Just like they did when they were alive
The people in hell only helped themselves when they were alive
It would never dawn on them to feed each other
That is their curse
And that is why they are in hell

About this poem:
I was watching Ms. Scrooge and heard this story told by a preacher. It is a retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. My favorite retelling of this story is Bill Murray's Scrooge.
