Across the Miles

A Christmas spent so far apart,
Can still be touching heart to heart.
Though distance great seems misery,
Soft words of comfort hearten me.

Just knowing that there is that one,
Who truly cares, all said and done,
Enough to ring the telephone,
That let's me know I'm not alone.

With friends and family far away,
I'll not be lonely Christmas Day,
For I will know that love has found,
The way to reach the world around.

All precious gifts aren't tied with bows,
The best ones are where true love shows.

The Child's Wish

Merry, merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year
let the spirit bring you
all the good cheer.

With smiling faces of this earth
and hands joined to be as one
let peace have a moment on this
wondrous night of the child's birth.

Wish to bring the magnificent
to bear upon our hopes
believe in the brilliant light
that shines in every heart.

For this one moment in time
is cherished as no other can be
for one wish of one child was
for peace for you and me.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Soon It will be Christmas

It is starting to be a little bit like Christmas
The parades advertising spirits of the children
excitement fills the air'
People are everywhere
Mistle toe and hollyberry
All the Christmas stuff
Coming out in the Open
It is time
the reindeers are on their way
I can see Santa
And that bright red nose reindeer
Look out for whoever is nice
Look out for whoever is happy
the gifts will be placed under the tree
for everyone including you and me

" Weekend car trip "

Friday's freedom,
Country roads,
Places never seen,

Endless fields,
Cattle grazing,
Dairy farms,

Hotdogs,french fries,
Busy streets,
Small town on the shore,

Chilly water,
Whipping wind,
Sun hidden in the clouds,

White sand,
Footprints in the sand,
Seashells on the beach,

Sea breeze,
Ocean waves crashing,
Noisy seagulls,

Wind blowing through my hair,
Walk along the beach,
Tide soaked jeans,

Beautiful scenery,picnic,cherry wine,
Happy faces,pictures,
Sunset and good memories

Thanks Giving/Giving Thanks

The meaning of T’day has transcended
from its beginning: our sharing together
with indigenous people who innocently gave
in times of sickness and chilling weather.

From those days when we readily took
from them all of which they shared
while ’round the table of community we
partook of the meal that was prepared.

To their trusting welcome, we replied
with greed and want of possession
so much so that by force we took much
of their lands with egregious aggression.

Throughout the years this did continue,
this giving then taking back more,
until with little reservation they live
with minuscule resources left in store.

Dispersed amidst the clatter of our laws
with pride, strength, resilience, determination
First People have sought legal ways to
reclaim some of what was once their nation.

On this day, may we celebrate Thanksgiving,
by learning to judge our wealth by care—
not by what and how much we own—and
take steps toward a world we all can share.

Pffft Christmas

Here comes Christmas with those jingly hats
Bonking in your eye as it springs by.
And the wailing of those special little brats
"Mommy, Daddy..I don't want that!
I want a electronic game
not snakes and ladders, that's lame."

And the fashionably challenged teens.
"like omg, do you really think I'll wear that"
"yeah man, those are not phat
just give me your credit card
I won't go over your limit, Daddy.

It's Christmas eve, the snow lightly falling
Gayly wrapped presents under the fake tree
Poppa and I sit in our loungers
And throw back a beer or two.

It's a few minutes to twelve as we stumble out the door
to midnight mass and mumbled thanks.
As the bells of Santa's reindeer's jingle overhead
we look up and wonder why. What is this yellow stuff
falling from the sky?

The Ghost of Halloween

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Big guys with chainsaws revving loud,
Fake blood and spiders hanging down,
Screams and eerie music blaring,
Sheets floating cross the "haunted" town.

These places don't do much for me,
Guess kids are more who they are for.
My mem'ries are of dressing up,
And traipsing, begging door to door.

Course we had to soap some windows,
Or TP houses without light.
Up and down the blocks we hurried,
With candy on our minds that night.

When all the goodies had been got,
And all the pumpkins' candles gone,
We'd drag our bags back home again,
While vainly trying not to yawn.

Now's my turn to carve the pumpkin,
And hand out goodies at the door.
But very few come round it seems,
The spirit's gone forevermore...

About this poem:
Last year there were only six kids came to the door. These youngsters get too much every day and don't have the ambition to walk from the car to the porch... Ah well, that's just one old curmudgeon's opinion

Dementia

The Haunted House

The hallway creeks with every step
Like a maddening sound of whispering ghosts
I try so hard to be quiet, to be silent
But I can't because this house is so old
They say a murder happened here
An uncle that committed the ultimate sin
Killing his niece and nephew, slicing thier throats
With the glass from a broken bottle of gin
When asked to explain why, he smiled
And told the reporters it was the devils work
That he was just an innocent bystander
That he couldn't control his body as it lurked
But that was twenty years ago
And you can still see the blood stained walls
Sometimes it's as if you still can hear thier screams
Echoing down the forbidden halls
So enter if you boldly dare
There is no certainty of your return
For this house has been condemned to hell
And surely your soul will burn

Thanksgiving Blessings and love from Canada

God bless America the Queen and Mother Nature
The Earth Stars Galaxy waters and land
Different Countries Cultures Opportunities Adventures
The Melting Pot Harvest Of Gold
Presented to us to explore and behold
Parents Siblings Aunts Uncles Nieces Nephews
Grandparents great grand children babies and senior citizens
From here to eternity the cycle of life
Turkey Ham vegetables cranberry sauce wine and juice
Time to get together and celebrate
I am thankful for my health
Jobs friends music entertainment trailerhood
My eighty five year old parents still alive and kicking
My brother the scholar the poet the renaissance man
My sister the computer geek the Spock of the family
The conversations experiences shared moments stories of life
Last week I had this conversation with my parents
I apologized to them for all the wrong choices I have made
Certainly was not afraid to strike out on my own
I guess that is the learning process
My father said son get over it
My mother replied "Son you have grown, Certainly our destiny
is determined by the decisions we make, You are making the right
decisions now and I am proud of you"
I cried
Happy Thanksgiving to all
Blessings and love always

at the cottage

The wilderness country setting blue waters
Cottage life full of different settings
I enjoy walking throught the woods in the bright morning
refreshing relaxing always something different to see
Twice a week they have horse racing
sometimes on the weekend they play bingo
It is all an interesting setting
The air is fresh
the grass is green
sunsets are relaxing
rainbows cirlce the waters
birds are chirping
People are enjoything the quiet times
nature is full of surprises
come out and stay a while
