~A Bad Dream~

Haunting, daunting.. perhaps merely a dream..
A myriad of not so quite silent screams..
The essense of evil.. as blasphemy coated it's ugly self
like putrid cursed words on a profanely painted shelf..
Sarcasm slithered like vile snakes on the ground..
Forked tongue, pointed directly at all who abound..
The escape route is closely guarded
No chance you will win..
Abandon all hope,
All ye that enter in.

Special Friend

Many years ago when I was a child,
I had a special friend with whom I played,
Together much mischief, we was really wild,
Over the years our friendship never frayed,

When teenagers we went our separate ways,
Contact was rare and very slim,
No letters or phone calls between the days,
Yet when we met it was like a new begin,

Each told to one another our secret wishes,
How we missed those carefree plays,
Ill with cancer he laughed, no more dishes,
Now death is the parting of our ways,

No longer able to see that mans smile,
To hear that chuckling or see you grin,
Yet we knew for the other we would go the extra mile,
So I will see you one day, at the gates we can have another begin.

About this poem:
Well I lost my childhood friend to that awful disease cancer over the weekend at the age of 61. Makes you wonder what's next around the corner for us all? As kids we did get up to all sorts of mischief and we even looked like one another same mop of hair and cheeky grins, this we used to our advantage when it came to blame. A true friend David I will miss you but you will never be forgotten.

our son

Next weekend our son will take on a wife
And start a brand new life
He asked me to find some pictures you
He's going to make a memorial table just for you
This breaks my heart even more
As I go through the pictures
I see that look of pride you have for him
Today I sit here and ask
Why did God take you so soon
Our son had so much to show you
Our son has become a very successful lawyer
And a kind hearted loving man
What father couldn't be filled with pride
I just wish you were here when he takes his bride
I know you will be beaming down with joyful tears
Over the the years he's come to be a lot like you
Sometimes just talking to him makes me miss you
Today I told myself it's ok to cry
The memories must go back to their box
I know you will be with us in spirit
Because we're two proud parents
Who made a beautiful loving son

"Still"

Still see your face, still hear your laugh
Still feel your vulnerableness, still feel the past
Still see you walking my way when I'm about to catch a bus
Still feel your eagerness to spend time with me each month
Still await your facebook posts, still await your calls
Still waiting for time to lie, and tell me you are not gone
Still waiting for us to make our first music video together
Still can't believe the word that will define that moment is never
Still wishing that all of this is just a bad dream
Still hate the fact I can only see you in my dreams
Still wish I told you I loved you more than I had
Still hoping my selfishness never broke our brotherly pact
Still talk about you like you're still here today
Still wanna talk to you to hear the words you'd say
Still feel the closeness we had, closeness we lost, closeness we were regaining
Still cherish your soul cause the memory of you is never fading

Remembering you

I knew the day I met you
Your time with me was forever,
Me without you? Never!

I remember times at the lake
we laughed we argued and loved.
We had something no one could take.
To their demise many tried.
But it always remained, you and I

I think of you always I'll
Never forget, remember me.
Cause as long as there is a thought
Of you and me
Ther will never be a he and I or you and she.

Dave........

What a lovely old man passing by
At this beach I hold with a sigh
Frail in figure but not in life
His eyes sparkling with mischievious strife
An English veteran from the second world war
He'd rather not talk about that anymore
But dwelled on the fact he had shared a great life
A marriage of sixty years with his Australian wife
A farmer a breeder of King island beef
With natural salt licks from the Tasman sea
Made his cattle better than most
With his charming accent he did boast
The irony to this he says with a grin
Is he became vegetarian it's not a sin
Grumbling good with a thumbs up he'd say
As we spoke about beautiful Horseshoe Bay
With crooked fingers and a wry smile
He reveals the secret to a marriage worthwhile
Respect and love each other every day
Both hands on his cane to balance his sway
It took me while to work out his age
Until he says I am on the wrong page
1925 was the year I was born
90 years young and not forlorn
A charming spirit drifted in with the breeze
Silent his footsteps warming his ease.....

Untill we meet again

For those i love....
and those who love me.

I could not say goodbye to you
reasons why i slipped away,
i hung on untill my favourite time
the eve before christmas day.

But do not let my passing sadden this season
between your tears remember our smiles,
all those years we celebrated togeather
remember me at our best of times.

Do not think that i have ever left you
because it sits empty my fireside chair,
raise your eyes feel me above you
smiling down with loving care.

See me as the light in your window
to guide you when lost and alone,
and in your darkest hour i'll shine brightly
when i reach out to welcome you home.

A candle glowing in the dark

I watch the fire burn, he the flame all aglow,
Yet I still sit and wonder cause
I really need to know,
Are they coming back"?
The words paw the air.
And I just sit and wonder
While the flame burns the air.
I think of times past
And things we all enjoyed
The laughter and the love
What we did to fill the void.
We listened to the timber wolf
His crying,lonely howl.
And listened to the mice
As they ran,evading Owl.
I think of all of you
And this is what I know
If I see you again
I'll never let you go!

Lament for a Soldier and his Love.

Here, embroiled within the 'Bloody Brawl' of Passchendale,
a limb from limb torn hill, a Man made carnival of Hell,
prostrate lay I, mutilated, slow and obscenely dying,
but one last wish my fast failing heart a heeding,
My Mary's last letter, from my pocket, I so request
e'er to scan again, realms of love, known the best,
softly e'er she penned, with quietude, serenely wrote
love spun lines, for thee, the world at war,I'll quote,

"Love, thou sadly ensconced in war's harsh thwack,
enduring fury's roar and battles stressful sin,
thou, stoic of heart, set out to conquering win
humanities pride, re-instate her restful ways
of love, but pray I this, return ye fleeting back
one of these love filled days,

Pray speed the hours and swiftly flow
the lonely days that loiter long it seems,
time alas! now, measured in hope of dreams
of our tomorrows, whence, life flushed ablaze,
so return ye safe, then joy together know
one of the love filled days,

Oh! Waiting 'tis but a bitter task, a lover's fate
to languish long, e'er with fortitude, so to strive
days entrenched, keeping shinning hope, bright, alive
when strolling we, saunter our once loved ways
hand holding hand, with fervent heart I patient wait
one of these love filled days.

About this poem:
Passchendale, much written in heroic terms, yet that wee bit 'o' hill, witnessed carnage unimaginable, for little gain. There in its museum, shines an inscription which reads,

'The thought that Jock died for his country is of no comfort to me, his memory is all I have left to Love.
John Low's fiancee, 10th Jan 1918.

Such sadness, such waste inspired this poem.

EMPTY SPACE

In my life lots of empty space
Forever missing that loving face
Empty spaces for the last seven years
Making for lots and lots of tears

In the car with an empty passenger seat
Always makes me want to weep
Looking at empty dining room chair
No longer seem able to eat there

Big piece missing in my heart
Memories seem never too far
Going everywhere all alone
Then returning to an empty home
