Piece Of Mind

Rise all those who meet the description of desire,
Speak whose hearts are made of fire,
Dwell low who are liars,
Sing high, banned from the church choir,--
Of what was lost,
And, what is to become,
Those who have many,
And, the lonely hearts,
Who have chosen to be alone,--
Those who carry pleasure on a merry-go-round,
Step forward, those who wear a golden crown,
Faces of those who show happiness,
Behind a mask made of frowns,
Those who succeed up,
Leaving those who ever put you down,--
Learn the only value of life is death,
Between those who accept and those who deny,
Scream those in love,
Whisper love to those who said goodbye,
All of this within the wink of an eye,
Seeking the warmth of the day,
Cold fear, of what lurks in the night,--
Those who wonder to be,
And, those in some places are blind,
Still remaining able to see,
But, have lost a piece of mind.

About this poem:
It was 12-4-92 when I wrote this. Being towards very much more songwriter than poet, I started out loosely with this and it all took form. Odd as it seems, it was at the end of the Gulf War; yet, perhaps, it fits most best as of now?

Paladins minute

Like a wind crying endlessly through the universe, time carries away the deeds of conquered and commoners alike, all that we are, all that we were, are the memories of those who cared we came their way for a brief moment.

Farewell but not Goodbye

On ethereal wings
It ebbed and flew
And took from me
The love I knew
Arched and swiftly poised
To asunder
No caveat or counsel
Nor reflection left to wonder

You faded away into the night
Without fear and without fight
Pain was gone replaced with such peace
From the struggles of life you found a release
To walk again a life anew
To loving arms that waited for you

You went to a place I cannot follow
My broken heart distraught and hollow
I held your love in the palm of my hand
And watched it vanish, likes prints in sand
But life’s a valley
Between high and low
Reverberating phantoms
Where we fear to go

Love endures the corrosion of phase
You brightened and enlightened my waking days
Your journey is over, now time to sleep
Until we reunite, our memories I’ll keep
Come for me when my day is done
As you were for me, when my life begun

The inky grey

Faltering
the sound of a distant church bell
flocks of starlings
in the village
all men are dressed in black
proceeding to the grave site
I can see it from my refuge
high on the hill
in the weakening winter sun
who Matthews was
I hardly knew
whether he fought
I do not know
bound for the earth
all in his time
I light a cigarette
and going downwind
I descend
into the inky grey

Games and life!

Such games prevail, but sadness reigns, the
Show must go on, be what they want you to be,
And then, finally you see, too late, it’s over,
Oh such games we play, humanity is where it is,
Honesty and integrity, so many have failed,
So many pedestals, so many victims lost to
Fear, lost to not being, silently screaming with
No one to hear,
No one can be all you want them to be, and
Their fear ends in their demise, they believed
And fell to the lies.

A journey we all eventually must take

Take care old fool cause nobody else wants to dig you out of your pool

Yes many will come to suggest a way some that may save the day
yet, it's still ultimately our choice of how we want to play

The old cliche ye can lead a horse to water but, can't make him drink
how often it makes us ponder and think

See how youth laughs and plays through all those lost and forgotten summer days

Now our eyes are old and dim and life is viewed in a haze

When we thought we couldn't wait to be cool and grown up now we sit in bed or chair hoping not to spill our cup

As we take our pills and eat the swill looking through the glass feeling like a stupid a**

Watching the world pass us by reflecting those moments of joy that made us cry
Even the sorrows seem to be a joyful sigh

The face we see counting the lines and scars though we wear them with honor under a crimson sky as we wipe the tears from our eyes.

Where is our reward but, to feel the reaper's sword as he prods us along that final path in the hope to reach the house of a mysterious lord

There are no promises in this life nor warranty implied to avoid the strife
Yet, we have choices and paths to walk and much idle talk

We may have had many loves and friends to comfort us along the way with many life's lessons, their value is never a waste for they are our guides and teachers in bringing us to ourselves

No matter how old we get or feel one thing is certain upon meeting the end of our time, mommy and daddy we cry for in leading us through the dark and uncertainty sublime

A journey we all must take alone though we are given the hope of a shepherd to lead us to his home.

Memories of our life may flash before us the good and bad alike those footprints in the sand we look for along the hike
We wonder who will be holding our hand when we reach our final stand

Will our folks and long lost friends be there to welcome us to a banquet that never ends?

One can only hope for such a meet
In the meantime let us pray that our lord will our soul he keeps

Cirque des morts

In the late late sunlight
dwarfs chewing matchsticks
in carnival rings
they have mustered
the feathered girls
from the tents
for the clown
he is deceased
like high wire fire
a drummer boy's defeat
here the town goes down
on the edge of the sun

“Suffer the little children to come unto me..”Matt.:19-14

Uvalde mass killings.

“Suffer” them but do not make them,
Suffer harm, agents of mayhem.
Life or guns the ultimatum,
Daughters, sons, will no one save them?

Wingless angels, blood and guts,
Carnage of the guns influx,
“Thoughts and prayers” are not enough,
“Deeply saddened” be rebuffed!

Abhorrent is the masquerade,
Some danced with wolves as children played, No laws preventing harm were made, No fathers arms for child afraid.

You whose heart is bulletproof,
Come and see what bullets do,
Bone and flesh like liquid oozed,
You unmoved are wicked too!

All nineteen children left for dead,
By nineteen men that made a pledge,
They would not cower, would not hedge,
These men will die a thousand deaths.

Blue lives mattered more than those,
Browner kids don’t fit the mold,
They don’t matter tags for toes,
Script unravelled lies exposed!

Yellow men some dressed in blue,
Have fetishized the Devils’ tools,
They’ve never once played by the rules.
They play the rest of us for fools!

“Locked doors” won’t stop mass casualties, “Good guys with guns” the fallacy, afraid of unarmed blacks and shadows, harshest judgement prison, gallows?

What must be the penalty,
When duty shirked makes many grieve?
For them what respite, what relief?
Glad heirs that rest on Fathers’ knee.

About this poem:
I know it’s late but I had to say something. I hear responsible gun owners and the majority of Americans want gun legislation that prevents this daily occurrence.
Lawmakers must do better. Were it their own kids dying they would do something Yesterday! Inflation, the economy are important but people are dying senselessly. This cannot be ignored!

thoughts

we all want peace
we all want love
we all want help from above

we look and search
we hope and pray
that for love will find us one day

and through life
there might be only one
to bring the light and love and us undone

hold them, squeeze them for they will soon be gone
to be left with only memorys of days gone by
and questions of why

alone u sit thinking back all those years
long long thoughts which turn to tears
and nothing left not even fears

Little Cans

Little Cans

A little boy is standing, frozen by his eyes.
His mind is cloudy like a storm due Sky, his vision's clear as a settled glass of water. Why? His heart knows the reason: understanding escapes him.
Odor invades his nose like termites storm a house, unwelcome guests.
A stench cloud in the air, little boy is still confused. Why?
Speak, little boy. Ma.
Still cloudy, still confused, vision becoming glossy
as tears fill his eyes. Why??????
Eyes too full leaking tears down innocent cheeks, splashing to the floor.

The boy draws near to what is dear to him,
heart bleeding, mind frazzled. Reaching for her hand, he says it.Mom? Mom?

I love you etched in his heart.
LIttle boy pulls her hand.
A toil in vain.
He tries, he cries, she won't get up.

The little cans have slain her, she's stuck there
for the night, a captive to the floor.
Tomorrow she won't remember, won't know he stood nearby.

Tomorrow she'll buy more little cans,
and kiss the floor once more.
Why?

The little boy grows up, he is tall and strong and tough.
Inside the man, a boy is standing, with his mother nearby.
Except now he knows why.

It's the little cans.
