Cornwall remembered

The countryside held his boyhood
in a village quite sublime
country lanes, fields of wheat
church bells pealing, sunday time
morning papers, sunday lunch

Music from the 60s played
the honeycombs in sight
drummer girl and vocal band
sung" Have I the Right"

the garden flowers sway
Seeds and planting
natures garden
vegetables, flowers so bright,
burning rubbish garden type
by walls beside the field

Compost burning,smoke is rising
in the garden, by the wall
that extended round to meet
the garage and farmers gate
the tree stump cut
stood upon it five feet high

a boy with his new radio
sat and viewed that scene
brand new wireless airing music
Ivy League, who "tossin and turnin"
Was what they seemed to do

take bike and country lanes
railway station, spotting trains
meeting people there
going down the village lanes

Pass under trees
stop beside a tiny bridge
hop the wall and over
there the little brook
rolled on it's quiet way

Boyhood was the moment
heading into manhood
down the road away.

This Moment

No, tomorrow's no yesterdays.
Just this moment. Me here alone.
Nothing standing in the way.
All the bad seems to be gone.
Just the breeze brushing my face.
And the sun bringing me to life.
All the negativity seems erased.
And the world is mine once more.

Does the sky seem like the perfect blue?
And the grass and trees a luscious green.
It makes me forget about losing you.
And life is once more mine it seems.
Just the sounds of everyday.
Passing by outside.
Makes me not want to stay.
So I leave the inside.
To greet the world with a smile.

Don't it feel good to not run.
To simply have a chance.
To be able to survive.
And still want to dance.
The wind and the sun,
The feeling of life begun.
Makes it all worth while.
Going to greet this world with a smile.
And keep living life in style.

attention span

oh that's a very nice name
betcha everyone says the same
you know I come here every day
to listen to what the people say

now that one right over there
not standing but in the chair
she's been coming here for years
face all taut from ear to ear

she was married to someone once
a man with some inheritance
oh what was his name anyway
Charles I think but just can't say

the TV says it's cold outside
my nephew's taking me for a ride
did you know his mother June
my sister was the family loon

anyway so what is your name
didn't catch from where you came
oh that's a very nice name
betcha everyone says the same

I hope they don't serve fish again
eating fish is such a pain
I found a bone last time stuck
between those thingy's on my fork

see this robe I'm wearing now
do you like it? me too, and how
my spouse gave it to me years ago
some Christmas past is all I know

well it's been a nice get together
you must come back in warmer weather
I'm sorry I've forgotten your name
but I enjoyed talking just the same

take me just the way I am
I have a short attention span
like butterfly flit flower to flower
diverting second to minute to hour

A Journey

Gentle spiral to the ground.
In circle motion round and round.
Dancing rhythm of its own.
Destination unknown.
Gust remove others.
Legions follow.
Leaving cover.
Soon replaced.
Seasons defaced.
Hint of color.
All so true.
Reaching to skies of blue.

PEOPLE NEED PEOPLE

It’s almost a year since time you left home,
I’ve pulled down the curtains, fixed lock on my door.
You did what was right – for the better, not worse,
But left broken heart in the wake, cut to bone.

I am thinking of times we were family,
Every night in my dreams only you and me.
I’ve been going in mind to the places we’ve been,
It is time to raise curtains, to let daylight in.

It’s been almost a year since we drifted apart,
I wonder if ever my heart’s reconciled.
You did what was better for future of child,
They say you’ve been having a time of your life.

If not for the things I could hardly control,
Had love been regarded for all what it’s worth,
I would have bestowed you all treasures of world,
Seems love is no object, some things matter more.

It’s almost a year since time you left home
I wonder if ever I’ll manage to cope.

About this poem:
"There is the silence of a great hatred,
And the silence of a great love,
And the silence of an embittered friendship.
...
There is the silence of those unjustly punished ..."
(Edgar Lee Masters, "Silence")

Some life experience that leaves indelible mark, hard to wipe off, if ever. You know what I mean...

The Catch

Slowly crawling turning gracefully down
The box by the door waited beckoning
A moment in time passed without a sound
The time was here the time of reckoning

They came all of them huddled as if one
All so different yet all just the same
No going back no stopping at full run
Not caring if from happy or sad pain

Floating as if soaring by mighty wings
White the color of surrender or pure
What my eyes surrender what my eyes bring
Floating wings white touched my face with the cure

Dainty hand holding tightly the tissue
Catching tears as they fell was no issue

Lance Armstrong

He's know for wearing yellow
He's a happy positive fellow
His friends call him Lance
He likes to wear biker pants
When he rode in the Tour De France he averaged over 24 miles per hour
That takes a lot of power
This was up and down hills
That gave his fans quite a thrill
Those seven medals that he had won with one sack
He had to give those back
He was doping don't you know
At least he used to date Sheryl Crow

About this poem:
Just heard that Lance got caught taking performance enhancing drugs while he rode his bike. Since he cheated to win, all of his tour de france wins are null and void.

AN ERA

take my hand
come back in time
to jazz to blues
soul singers rhymes

take my hand
to brilliant artists
pointillism watercolors
picasso, monet, gauguin

take my hand
drink with me in smokey bars
take in louis, etta, bessie
drive with me to paris
pack up our vintage flint car

take my hand
sit at a bistro
dine on baguettes, cheese and wine
an era when life was so fine

take my hand
and bring me back
kiss me in the rain
no need for fortune or fame

take my hand
let me hear hemmingway, fitzgerald read
hold me close and take me back
to a place in time
where love was true
and laughter was devine

In This Day

In this day and age
And time and place
Discreetly peering at past
And present and future

It looks different now
But still fairly easy
To hope and dream
Finding happiness here

Surely it is common
For those of our age
To look at the achievements
Of the world and ourselves

Comparing them to others
Who lived in harder times
Or softer times, and placing
Our knowing selves again, wondering

Would we, could we
Travel the paths unbroken
Seeing obstacles
As mere challenges

Would we, could we
Search out those
Who we now see have
Value beyond the casual

And would we work as hard
To forge our friendships
Our loves our works or choose
To be blissful, slightly, ignorant

Moving along where the view
Is wide, the slope gentle
The pace easy, unintentional
Taking life that comes our way

Or, hungry, searching out
As if all is unexperienced and worth
The risks of climbing, turning,
Swimming through the tide

Living each adventure because
All is new, and different
Worthy of discovering
Over again, every day

About this poem:
I went to my first class reunion this summer and met someone awesome who made me wonder whether I would do things differently knowing what I know now.

Forget Me Not

Forget me not my love You'll always have my heart. Where time and love and people meet We'll never be apart. And now with times uncertain And the outcome is unclear; Remember that I loved you And in my heart you're always near.
