Dandelion Dreams..

It was a beautifully gorgeous sundrenched spring day
I had the urge to get outside
to chase away the winter doldrums and mingle with the earth
and so I called to him , his eyes lit up at once
at the idea of frollicking on the lawn
Ah but there is work to be done I looked at him
and pointed downwards at the unsightly grass
if we are to have a lawn to play on we must
first dig up these unsightly yellow weeds
he looked bewildered as he gazed upon the earth
and at once he handed me a bouquet
and his face did shine with pride
I accepted this bouquet and looking into his eyes so blue
I accepted his gift of dandelions and suddenly I knew that
never again would I look at dandelions the same way.

Precious Bits Of Being

February 27, 2014

We may twist in the wind like autumn leaves,
colorful, yet unappreciated.
We may thrive on the laughter of others,
without hearing our own voice, gifted.

How often have you wished and imagined
a partner there with you, sharing the dance?
Two souls meeting, feeling lighter than air,
lost in sweet wonder and budding romance.

A child’s smile, blessed innocence.
Songs, sweet voices, like lovely violins.
Moments of perfection that thrum the heart.
Hearts resonate as those perfect rhythms.

Will someone in pain remember I care,
and allow me kind words to dry their tears?
Dear ones, you need not cling to your secrets.
Where is your good fight to conquer your fears?

Glorious sunsets are meant to be shared.
We gather in awe, with hardly a word.
Day and night merging with a loving sigh;
that single heartbeat of oneness is heard.

What shall unfold as I greet the new dawn?
Gaia, she speaks in soft joyful whispers.
Life tingling within every single cell,
and I ponder the blessing forgiveness stirs.

Ah, the simple heart-shout of holding hands.
Love heals, comforts and is soul freeing.
Touch, compassion, acceptance, and closeness...
I’ve missed all these precious bits of being.

Night Time

I found peace amongst the darkening skies
Soon stars will whisper night times lullabies
The worries the stress the everyday mess
Making a way for nights gentle caress
A moment a minute in time who knows
Time to relax and just let it all go
Just me breathing in the fresh night air
Done worrying about everyday cares
The body relaxes the mind lets go
Time to forget all life's little woes
Shadows playing in moon lights swaying dance
Holding me fixed in the gentlest trance
Sleep will come and tomorrow will be here
The futures not mine but always seems near

Prince and Michael Jackson

Prince and Michael Jackson
Both were awesome artists from the best decade in music
The 1980's
Michael started out on top with his Thriller album
Prince came out with Purple Rain
Both have some awesome songs
Prince's When Doves Cry
Michael's Billie Jean
Both were Jehovah Witnesses
I was approached by one on a walk this week
I researched some of their beliefs
They don't celebrate birthdays or holidays like Christmas
They don't vote
I think Michael did celebrate birthdays and give presents
I don't know if Prince did or not
There is no question which was the bigger influence
Michael Jackson
The 80's wouldn't have been the same without them

About this poem:
I have both albums on record. I would say I listened to Thiller more than Purple Rain. I have a hard time picking which songs I liked better. I did like Beat It, Billie Jean, PYT, Wanna Be Startin Something, The Girl Is Mine, and Thriller. I liked When Doves Cry, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, and Darling Nikki off of Prince's Purple Rain album.

About this poem:
This is a parody of We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel. I made this list from a Billboard Top 40 book I have, and my own enjoyment of some awesome music during that decade and since. I hope you find some good music in this list.

African Skies

African Skies

I hark to freer days of childhood
Life simplicity in itself
days of laughter, of playing in the sand
so so soft and fine
golden white sands from the coral reefs
sparkling, dazzling bright
Staring into coral pools at Tide's ebb
Beautiful rainbows of fish
endless darting, sea cucumbers sleepily still
a child's total delight
coconut palms wave gently in the salty breeze
scale them I tried in vain
inland to the vast savanna's teeming with life
tall grasses the lion hid
a wondrous baobab tree reaching up for the sky
look it grew upside down
for all the world to see, branches like roots
beware the croc log
hippo's snorting, noise vibrating as they plunge
then resurface amidst bubbles
all these wonders through child's eyes seen
Africa my heart you have still
I tell you what my friends, I swear to you
blindfold me, put me to sea
around twenty nautical miles or so
and I would know alone
by the vibrant scents of rich earth and spices
that I am back there
near heart's home, the East African coast

CONTENPLATIONS

Sitting here behind my window,
watching the anger of the rain
pelting down as if in pain.
The wind doing its best
to blow it over the hills
to the forest in the west.
My latter years spent pondering
sitting here watching the world go by.
Memories pouring as fast
as the rain, into my brain.
Had it all been worthwhile?
Such negative thoughts for me,
myself, always full of new adventures.
Had I enjoyed this ride?
I can only say, there is more to come.
So cannot truthfully answer.
As the rain pelts down,
cleaning my windows,
giving me a clearer view.

Doors

Sometimes I wander through the halls of my mind...
Testing each door.
Will that one open today? Is that one still locked?

A scent, a sound, a glimpse of another time...
Takes me back in my life.
Wandering down the paths of my mind.

Do I have any regrets, is that wound healed?
Is the sense of wonder and awe still there?
Do I remember that flower, is it still fragrant and new?

Are my dreams still in color, bursting with passion and joy?
Do I find myself happy or full of sorrows this day?

Sometimes I wander through the halls of my mind...
Testing each door.
That door opened today, another memory set free.

myth of innocence

It seems like we've grown jaded.
That the past was more better,
more nicer, more innocent,
than things seem today with
all the hungry, and the homeless
the jobless, the angry, the hopeless.

But it is the myth of the now.
Our mothers, grandfathers, and
back beyond reckoning to distant
times, were sad with heartache
that time forgot, that we forget.

We imagine it as friendlier,
more wholesome, good for the soul,
a slow walk down cobbled paths.
A less hurried and harried life.
Watching mother cook fresh eggs.

The dings and blings of youth
today seem incessant and unyielding.
Yesterday's time was chalk hopping
rope jumping, and frog leaping.
But we've always been hungry...

For a simple time when truth
is given quietly and shamelessly
as a good dog comes to it's owner.
And love isn't so distant that
we can't reach out and scratch it.

Fragments

Embedded image from another site

Frozen moments in time
Shatters like glass
A window of our exsistance into the unknown
Our destination of design awaits within
With a voice we will rise with our hearts we cry
Is it lack of faith or just excuses for lack of inspiration
For what we have and what we always take
But eventually like monuments we will whither and crumble away
