Let Kindess Walk Through Your Door

There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the place of their self-content;
There are souls like stars that dwell apart,
In a fellowless firmament.

There are pioneer souls that blaze the paths
Where highways never ran-
But let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

Let me live in a house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by
The men who are good, the men who are bad,
As bad and as good as I.

I would not sit in the scorner's seat
Nor hurl the cynic's ban-
Let me live in a house by the sound of the road
And be a friend to man.

I see from my house by the side of the road
By the side of the highway of life
The men who press with the ardor of hope
The men who are faint from the strife.

But I turn not away from their smiles and tears
Both parts of an infinite plan-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

I know there are brook-gladdened meadows ahead
And mountains of wearisome height;
That the road passes on through the long afternoon
And stretches away to the night.

And still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice
And weep with the strangers that moan
Nor live in my house by the side of the road
Like a man who dwells alone.

Let me live in a house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,
Wise, foolish-So am I.

Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat
Or hurl the cynic's ban?
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

Just Speaking

Can I ever speak what my heart feels
Without being laughed at and ridiculed
Send you a message my loves seals
Where you will never again be fooled
Do I dare to see what a future reveals
When only one heart wants to be ruled
And only one heart seeks and prevails
Becoming the gentlest ever schooled
And together with you blazing new trails
All golden fleece is spun and spooled
All the mountains climbed and scaled
Can I ever speak my mind so you’ll
Know me and never feel lost and failed

Lightworker's Lament

But I turn not away from their smiles and tears
Both parts of an infinite plan
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

And still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice
And weep with the strangers that moan
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong
Wise-foolish.

Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat
Or hurl the cynic's ban?
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

How I live this.

I've been a Lightworker since a very young age. A gift that was blessed to me by God and passed on by my father's side who is pre-cognitive and has foresight and my mother's side which is Intuitive Empath, foresight, "sight" and the ability to astral travel. It helps to empathize with people I come across while with the Sheriff's Department.

I often "check in" with you all, leaving a hug and a gentle kiss upon your brow before I go back to my own home. I know when you're hurting, what ails you and try to bring you peace and comfort if only for a moment.

I've tried to help a friend that I've come to care about. It hurts so deeply to know that friend is hurting. How I wish I could help,if only but to listen and to offer support. No censure, no judgement, just being a friend.

While I was in the Army, I suffered a stroke two weeks before my unit was due to be shipped home. Took me two years to re-learn how to walk and talk again. My faith in God and a loving, supportive family helped me get through. On September 11,2001, I was in New York on a layover to visit my father's family in Ireland. I was a few blocks away walking towards the WTC to take photos for a friend. I looked up in time to see the first plane hit. Confusion gave way to action and I started helping the walking wounded. I rounded up some healthier looking individuals to help me and to alleviate their shock. Using up the supplies in my medical kit that I always carry and started ripping our shirts and clothes to serve as bandages and slings.

I lost two good friends from my Army unit that day. One was a first responder for the NYFD. The second was a man who worked at the Pentagon. We'd been friends since we first met. Better friends I couldn't have asked for. I miss them dearly to this day.

This past year saw a truck totaled, horses stolen, a water heater dying, septic system needing replaced, furnace needing replaced and an attempt on my life. I'm beginning to think that my middle name is Job.

Late last night I was on duty and received a call to go intervene on a domestic disturbance. What met our eyes was a child beaten so badly, this little one died on the way to the hospital. This child was barely a year old. I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, so it's nice to be able to come here, read the works of other poets and be transported nicely for a time.

Thank you for taking the time for reading these few words.

Friends

Friends are those people,
Who know that you’re mad,
And let you be mad.
They know that you’re hurt
And let you be hurt.

But when the anger has died
And your tears they have dried,
They reach out to lift you up once again
They reach out to help you heal from the pain

They reach out to show you
What it is you must do
And carry you time and again
To the road to be strong once again.

Friends always tell you
When you’re being a fool
Friends will not let you
Be somebody’s fool

Friends fill up your lonely space
With kindness and grace
Replacing your strife
With love and with life

DearDannah

let your hair down

Go right ahead, let your hair down
Proudly present the flaws and the frayed, as assigned... tis now grayed
With uneven cutting from past days and old ways
On purpose the colors have changed with time
Locked in are seasons and the reasons of life
Ponder the tales and share lessons learned
To those who do not have the length yet.. as earned
Guide them with each strand of wisdom
to better cover their young souls within them
Adorn the waves of what flows freely
with wind, every storm
let the rain cleanse completely
Cherish each curl of the tides that are... un neatly
Whether they be soft and quiet
or rough and loud
They each matter and needed to be
in order to become you and me

About this poem:
I'm old...lol...and my hair is extremely long but I always wear it in a braid or ponytail....I let my hair down today and was thinking about everything I have been through in life, and how we gray with wisdom as we age, so I wanted to write about it.

Shhhhhhhhh....

There are times when I am searching for a place to call home.
There are times when I am strong and I don't need no one to lean on.
There are times when I am weak.
And for strength to go on I seek.
There are times that go by way to fast.
And some just seem to last.
There are dreams I need to live.
Things I need to do.
And I know these times don't include you.
I have not let you think that we were more than just friends.
And asking for more will surely put that to an end.
So think wisely before your words go on.
We have been friends for a long time gone.
I wish I could close my ears. Turn my head and not hear.
Your words could change all. Please careful what you say.
It will be with a high price that both will have to pay.
You know I have a plan I have to see it through.
You know that the plan has never included you.
So lets not change the good that we've got.
Lets just hang on to a friendship that means a lot.

A Prayer For Poetry Corner And Friends

It's my joy in life to find
At every turning of the road;
The strong arm of comrades kind,
To help me onward with my load.

And since I have no gold to give
And love alone must make amends;
My only prayer is while I live,
God make me worthy of my friends.

The Gathering

A friend of mine once did say
It's by great chance we are here today
That through all the events that went before
We came to be is quite rare that’s for sure

Imagine the odds for us to arrive at this time
To mark with me this special place in time
That I might gather such dear friends as you
To celebrate this year of life with you

Your presence reminds me how blessed I am
That you chose to come and watch this program
To spend with me your greatest treasure
And spend your time on this night of pleasure

Did you know the love you show fills this aching heart
And piece by piece your love has healed this lonely heart
You made me feel alive, wanting to do my part
To share how you mended this man’s broken heart

Abused, confused and so unsure I didn’t know
Of love and friends oh so very dear
Your love broke those walls so well built
And showed the way to end the guilt.

We all have walked this road built through the ages
Traveled by our ancestors and great sages
Day by day year by year time slowly moved to this day
So we could gather here this night this way.

So let’s enjoy this time we share
While we are with those of whom we care
For the times we spend together is so very rare
And today joy and love we will gladly share.

Friends That Day

Siting round the table there
Friends I didn’t know I have
Truly blessed beyond compare
With all Love that I have

Wistful emotions did swirl around
To fill my soul with love of them all
Why do I have them hanging around
Wait is that a tear that dares fall

As my heart begins to swell
Tears flow quickly from my eye
Why they leak I cannot tell
And make the moment pass me by.

Oh it must linger past this day
Please don’t let it fade away
For if it does what would I say
About those friends I found that day

My eyes were filled with joy awhile
Because of friends so wonderful
My heart filled with love did smile
Contented, grateful it was full.

I’m sad to say the night has come
It’s time for us to part again
Until another day does come
For us to gather once again.

About this poem:
Last week I organized an outing inviting three of my new friends to gather on Saturday. By the time The group was to get together No three but eight people had gathered at my invitation. So I purchased the extra tickets and off I went. When I walked in and saw all their faces I suddenly filled with such great emotion my eyes filled with tears. A two to three hour get together grew into and eight hour gathering. Here is the result of that event.
