I made a Promise

I made a promise
as of today
to do at least
one good turn
make someone smile

a promise I will keep
to make someone happy
to lighten their burden
help change a life
in any way I can

I made a promise
that I would be there
for anyone in need
give to them if I could
their true hearts desire

a promise easily made
to let everyone one know
they can count on me
lean on my shoulder
that I would reach out
in any way I can

My promise I will do
my utmost best to keep
as night turns back to day
I will be strong and brave
so this gift I can give

and to myself I promise
I will try each day
to open up a little more
to prepare myself within
so I can share love again

Busybody???

Watch the curtain twitch
think of the person behind
some would say a busybody
poking, prying in others life's

Stop and think, maybe not
this could be a lonely soul
someone left behind, now lonely
who's children seldom come

The window now their only way
to feel involved in life
watch others having fun
share just a little of their time

how sad to be reduced to this
not able to get out and about
their only glimpse of life
through that lonely window pane

About this poem:
loneliness is a terrible thing age doesn't matter there are many reasons for loneliness, a one parent, lost teenager,a disabled person, a recluse or an elderly person. I recently started a group and the response since the newspaper article last week has been tremenous. So as you rush about your own busy life take just a moment to stop and think is there anyone near by who would like, a phone call, a visit, taking to the shops or a prescription collecting? any help you give in this way helps so much

Rita Makes a Great Cup Of Tea

Rita Makes a Great Cup Of Tea

I knocked on Rita's door and the time she took to open it made me turn and leave.
Two steps out I heard a shout, "Is that you, are you coming in?".
I turned and said "I'm here to ….." and she cut me off like sharp wit on a good day
With the words "I thought you'd never get here what kept you boy? come in now that you’re here".
I rounded the door and moved through the hall.
She was slow on her feet but could talk for 'em all.
She talked me into the kitchen which I shouldn't have allowed
but she was forbearing and wonderful and ever so slightly proud.
" 'Tis out the back you'll find it but first you'll have a cup of tea to warm the day".
And before I could say boo, I was talked to the table and sat for the tea.
I couldn't resist fruitcake and a cuppa for I was partial to both and the day had a chill.
all the excuses came at once, but when I tasted the tea it tasted funny to me
but funny in a good way and unknown to me I do believe it was with whiskey that she spiked my tea.
I didn't complain for I was partial to a drop myself and after all it's the spirit of life.
She proceeded to tell me her life's story while feeding the cat and saying occasionally
"Do you know what I mean lad?"
She was a gem and all around her were bits of her life, from pictures to postcards,
to a sink full of pots in need of indulging .
Then she asked "Will it take you long for I'm going for a nap.
The days are too long and the nights are too short lad, I need my little bit in between.
Now come and I'll show you the heater". "What heater?" I asked.
"You’re here to fix the heater aren't you?" "No I'm here to read the meter".
But she didn't seem put out when I told her the bad news and led the way to the meter box.
But I had drank a good few cups of tea and at this stage I think the meter was reading me.
There's worse things that could happen but Rita makes a great cup of tea.

meeting

Meeting

by Linda Hillier
15/03/2011

sitting in the sunshine
thinking of you and me
wondering what it will be like
this first meeting of ours
full of mixed feelings
running a little scared
yet my heart beats in anticipation
I'm in a spin as I wait for you
then I see you walking towards me
you smile at me and all doubts vanish
I draw close to you reaching out
you take me in arms and hug me
the world outside disappears
as we drift away into ours
could this be our new start
can love really be possible
maybe we could try to find out
I must admit I am not sure
So where to go from here?
Take each day as it comes?
Or let it go and move on?
doubting if I am ready
not sure if I can share
nor if I even want too
alone so long I have found
I like my own space
able to do just what I want
not having to consider another's needs
do I really want to change all this
that, yes that is the big question

About this poem:
can you ever be ready? Life is all about taking chances or passing them by. In this particular case I walked away

Poet Number one (acrostic)

Perfection his words
Over us all he extols
Every line full of beauty
Taking on new meaning

Never slow to praise others
Unheeded not go his words
Mighty his pen strokes
Bringing verses to life
Each a joy and a pleasure
Rhyme and rhythm abound

Oh our dearest Poet
Numbering highly among us
Eternal will be your words

Lady Morgana sixty (acrostic)

Lady Morgana sixty

Last? Not at all
advance to the front
Diva write for us
Your beautiful metaphors

Magical is your plume
Opening lines of sonnet
Released to sing out
Grand lady of verse,
As to you we bow
Needing to hear more
Another few verses

Sing out to us
Invoking our souls
Xoanona fallen from heaven
To us, you give us sweet
Yquem as you delight us with your prose

About this poem:
Xoanon which I added an A to feminize it is said to be a wooden god who fell from heaven
Yquem is a vineyard where they grow very sweet dessert wines

Rob you totally misread what I said this is what I was talking about when I said I was struggling you very deeply hurt me with your misunderstanding

Spartacus (acrostic)

Such a warrior of verse
Penning words of romance
All so sweet and beautiful
Raising up our hearts
Taking us with you
As you weave your stories
Carrying us up high
Unleashing strong emotions
Sir, True poet are you

Romancing are your words
Unleashing passion in each one

Smmer Wind (acrostic)

Smmer wind

Such a lovely soul
Much joy she brings
Making us all happy
Ever cheerful her words
Rapture abounds

When she is here
Intensly she inspires
Never a harsh word
Dear poet so nice to know
