RE: Enjoy life as it offers

When I am down, I bake Cinnamon rolls. That always cheers me up. So too does a good strawberry or peach layer cake. And oh gosh, do I miss 7 layer cake. wine

Isn't there a way to grow younger? moping

RE: How?

Mimi, find a hobby that interests you, then go to clubs where you meet other people who also like that hobby. That's usually a good first start, and like someone else said, be open to the idea of a new relationship someday.

RE: Viewer discretion Advised

Wasn't there a Steven King movie about that?

RE: are we alone?

Lindsy - I agree with the video regarding the numbers. The issue is what do we have to offer them that is worth the expense of communication with us primitives? Currently nothing. So they ignore us the same way you would ignore a bad neighborhood or a small town 400 miles away from you. Yes, someday we may be worth knowing. Not yet though.

Alternatively, be thankful some big Intergalactic East Indies Trading Company hasn't decided there are things of value here on Earth. If they do, while some of us may be caged and shipped off to interplanetary zoos as a curiosity similar to the fate of some Carib Indians when Columbus found them, most of us remaining wouldn't like the attention at all.

RE: thinking

We have a reform school (detention home for juvenile delinquents) in Florida which although ordered closed a few years ago is now the subject of a lot of intense scrutiny because of many unmarked graves of juveniles who were allegedly beaten to death, then quietly buried and listed as escaped or died of fever. Some prosecutions underway as we speak. Probably other places like that in other states too, if anyone dares to open that can of worms. So Ireland's history of such places is not unique.

RE: are we alone?

Of course not. The Carl Sagan Frank Drake formula.

Noting also we now know some of our view of the Milky Way back then was hidden by Dark Matter so the number we share this Galaxy with is larger. Likewise there is the question of timing. It could be a signal passed by the Earth long ago, but that civilization has since gone extinct. Likewise, our own signals may arrive at destination long after we killed ourselves.

F sub i is a variable you can change of course.

Either way, we are not alone in the Universe.

RE: Blessed October with pure love!

Is cute. Yes, in some cultures public displays such as holding hands are still considered big no-no's.

<grammar question: is the use of an apostrophe ' appropriate there? My memory says yes, but my intellect says no. American English rules can be hard for such subtleties so that even Americans sometimes stumble on the more obscure ones.>

RE: re:good news

Happy Birthday. Only 9 more to go before full SSI benefits.

RE: The love of my life!

Zeurich, congratulations. peace teddybear

RE: stay or go?

I have 'met' and correspond often here with some folks here who seem like good people to know. I wouldn't have met them if I wasn't here. Every now and then I 'meet' yet another good one to know. That is one good reason to be here. We realize finding a life mate across an ocean is hard, perhaps too hard. But nothing stops us from finding friends and also reading some interesting stuff.

Is the next crisis

Hi Usha. My toes are now showing bruising. Yes, I keep it elevated (mostly). Am being told this is normal.

If there was no water, their crisis would be over within a week. laugh

Is the next crisis

Did no one read actually the article?

Sure we use water in the US, but we also usually put it back after treatment into our rivers and streams. This is much better than in countries where the water is simply dumped untreated in any way back into the eco system.

RE: Do you know the tricks of a Machiavellian person?

I have a fence that needs whitewashing. This is so much fun. If you give me ten cents I will let you have some of the fun.

Mark Twain (more or less, check with Aunt Polly for a more accurate quote).

Down for the count

Rain, sorry to learn of this. My sympathy.

Angel, LoL, one says cold packs, you say soak. Neither is possible. Should I stick the cast with foot inside into my icebox? No that is prohibited as the cold cast would attract moisture upon removal and the application of direct cold packs is impossible while the cast is in place. Likewise I have been warned that getting the cast wet may invalidate any workman's compensation claim due to intentional disregarding of medical instruction to not allow the cast to become wet. Yes, I purchased ($15) a cast protector (2 actually, one for the house, one for the truck) in case I have to go out in, or be caught in the rain.

RE: Counterfeit or Not

Yeah, I too boggle at counterfeit food, but I guess the label from a can of Del Monte can be counterfeited, but I wonder if it would be worth the trouble from a profit viewpoint as opposed to simply labeling it properly, especially if it would be sold at a discount price.

Maybe we mean condemned prisoner meat being sold as pork or chicken hot dogs? But again, would not there be more profit in labeling it properly? I mean that would be a unique food item and collectors would lunge at those labels, even at a high price. I suggest that because of the recent scandal with one of our fast food chains processing plants going through a major investigation because some of their hamburgers were found to contain meat from a human child and now the investigation has grown legs with the discovery of not yet processed parts from a child or two, and all sorts of investigations are growing out of that.. So there is an instance of someone passing people off as beef, but I am not sure it qualifies as counterfeit because it is that firm's product and most in the company didn't know of what was happening at one processing plant..

Regarding the clothing, well caveat emptor. Check the stitching, check the material weight, if you like it, why not wear it?

Down for the count

Thanks all. Cleaning the cooker? No, I will wait for the next woman to arrive. She can clean the stove and maybe sweep up a little for me. Of course it may be a long wait now that I have released that information. laugh

RE: Furniture business

I know we have one who sometimes sells furniture, but I think his store sells lots of different stuff.

RE: I begin to exercise and feel happier about life.

Exercise may actually be more important for a woman than a man. I have met several women up to a decade younger than me who stopped exercising back in high school and now at 50 something they are not only overweight, but also beset by many health problems they shouldn't have at their age. If you haven't exercised in 20 or 30 years start out gentle with a 1 or 2 mile walk every other day. Inside a month of that you should be ready for more strenuous stuff.

RE: Definition Of Cruel

Rain, I can point to lots of couples who experienced that. laugh

RE: what if

You won't be the first and we have several regular customers in Florida you may be able to network with.

RE: Learning English...LOL ?

Is too funny. laugh

RE: Deja Vu?

It is just a time warp allowing you to see one possible future. Most often occurs in dreams. When you recognize the old dream that is deja vu/ How you use the knowledge is up to you and may generate a wholly different outcome than your dream.

RE: Mr. Chen Lee.. LOL

I am glad Mr. Lee was not too injured to write his report. Presumably a few days later there were more reports.

RE: Refugees and HUMAN RIGHTS

Just to share an idea of what the US Refugee camps were like, there were no guns or other weapons allowed inside the camps. Nevertheless I confiscated about 10 - 20 implements like this a week from various bad folk awaiting their Refugee Visa. This is typical of what I seized and was made in their US taxpayer furnished barracks in the wee hours of the morning. I am very sad to say very little I did inside the camps or investigative reports I wrote had any impact whatsoever as to whether or not some guy guy who stabbed 3 people in the camp got his Visa to leave the camps. What happened in the camps usually stayed in the camps and had zero impact on the Visa process to my great sorrow.

RE: I am bamboozled

You can pay the doctor, or you can use a turkey baster and a friendly donor. Both work well.

RE: Colture Shock

I you are going to read 'Das Kapital" you should also read '<Mein Kampf" for a 180 degree view. Sure both books are trash, but if you read one, you should read the other or else you only have one wrong view, when you need two to realize both are wrong.

RE: "AND THEN".A DISTANT SPLASH".
