RE: The reason why

Condolences about your loss.

You are right. A sad reality is we usually hit 40 before we start having questions about some things. In my case that was just a few years too slow. A thousand questions I now have as I learn more about his life before me (Dad was in his 40s when he got married and had me). No one left to ask. :(

Treasure your parents if they are still alive. Ask them the questions now. The time left to ask is not infinite. The clock ticks.

RE: WHAT IS A POTUS?

LoL, no genuine excuse for an American who grew up here not knowing POTUS unless they spent the last 40 years in captivity without newspapers, movies or television. Maybe someone freshly naturalized, but not native born.

Double LoL, I didn't care that much about Potus, looking glass, or sugar cube, but in the cold war days I spent a lot of years worrying about bent spears and empty quivers and knew of the occasional broken arrow. Those got my attention.

Climbing shelfs

@ Nam no problem. It hides at the bottom of the post comment screen. I have seen at least one CS friend bite the big one for ignoring those rules if i am Not MisTaken. :)

Climbing shelfs

@ Mimi, why would I have a peace sign? I be Hippie, Not.

RE: Smoking...

I do too. Ibid.

RE: How to tell a guy loves you?

He uses money he can't afford to spend to buy you a new dress for your sister's wedding?

RE: sad but all is not lost.

Concepts of God and various forms of the Bible are among our most profitable exports.

Once upon a time, before WW2 we welcomed folks who just wanted a better life. We got more than enough of those. Today most of our welcomes are reserved for those who either bring (lots of) their own money, or someone with clout pulls for them. Sad, but also true.

RE: Losing hope...

I think we have one success story account here. Problem is most people if they have found someone, why would they stay here on a site for people who haven't found someone? Answer is they don't. They both just quietly turn the no longer needed computer off.

RE: Nothing to wear at night!

Thinking you are not a night worker. Therefore assume I you want clothing to wear while sleeping. Obvious question, why?

RE: Iraqnam?

LoL, Japan certainly did under MacArthur. So did South Korea I think. But I agree pointing to gains for the lower economic strata in the other countries is harder. There is also the issue of who does the measuring? laugh

RE: What could you do if you were in this mood? :)

go ahead and sleep.

Just for fun

Well Mimi, for the infirm there is a one legged version of this exercise, where one does it one leg at a time. Of course with the one legged march many more repetitions are needed to burn the same amount of calories, but what is important is the rusting machinery has begun to move. Sort of marching in place. For the somewhat less infirm but still not fit yet, there is a jump in which you touch your hands to your thighs. Much easier for shoulder joints not used to movement. Hopefully eventually with enough exercise you will someday be able to do a full knee tuck to the elbows. There are of course more intense (harder movements) versions than that shown here but those are kind of reserved for those thinking of showing full six pack abs. :)

RE: Friend Request....

I just ignore friend requests that are not prefaced with many back and forth emails first. Got about 10 of them just sitting there ignored. Some for years. Not a single email from any of the people who made them. Far as I am concerned it was a worthless friend request and it will always be ignored.

RE: Ugh...

It is not required after age 21. Speak with a local attorney. An alternate trustee can be appointed. Of course if you live with your mother and you cut off the money flow she may require you to move elsewhere and hopefully there is enough money to do that.?.

Just for fun

It also brings all of the abdomen and a lot of the rib muscles (positioning the arms) into play. Kind of a vertical crunch exercise, but without many of the problems of a horizontal crunch. applause

RE: feeling restless

Too hot to shop. Better to just stay home and eat ice cream.

RE: What bring you to CS...?

Initially a combination of loneliness and boredom. I have found some long distance friends here, so for me it wasn't a waste.

That being said, we should acknowledge some of the most interesting people live far, far away. :)

RE: Iraqnam?

This stuff and Western involvement goes back to the days of Lawrence. A pox on him and those worshiping him.

Yeah, if fired upon any one in that situation should shoot back. The real question becomes why is he there and what is the end goal? Is the end goal tenable? I don't see a bi-sected Iraq as realistic. That ignores the Kurds (who incidentally are a bigger problem for ISIS than the Army of Iraq is). Could be the whole thing (the country) just disintegrates into another Lebanon with little feudal states or unending war like in Syria. Could be that is exactly the end goal of some people. Why worry about taxes and pollution laws if you can just pay off some local warlord and not worry about the workers or their living conditions or the pollutants you dump into their drinking water? Yes, religious factions lay at the core of the fights. Also battles between those controlling the oil rigs and those needing a better infrastructure in their home villages or more 300 miles away. Should oil money go to Swiss Bank accounts and pay for luxury villas and fast cars, or should it go into education in the remote villages and development of a culture of equality? Should we enforce the swapping of the dictatorship of Nuri Kamal al-Maliki for someone who may become a new even worse dictator, or should we just throw up our hands and walk away, letting the chips fall where they may?

Happy i be that i not be making that choice.

RE: Warp speed...

@ Lukeon try perpendicular Tokamok fields. An X configuration in a pulsed array. Compress the K shells of trace O atoms down an orbit or two, then release the pulsation, as the other ring begins the next compression. You should (on paper anyway) get about 4x the energy used for each compression as the electrons spring back to the K orbit. The rotating but perpendicular magnetic fields generated by the Tokamok rings will enable the vessel to both swim and steer. At the same time the energies are sufficient to all a speed of greater than C which will not violate Einstein's predictions because the ship will create it's own bubble universe. So that while the velocity may be above C, not in this Universe. Two or three minor problems have halted production. 1) Shielding. The pressures and temperatures this engine produces are way hotter than any substance found on Earth can withstand for more than 1/10,000 second before turning to vapor. 2) steering blind Although in theory being in it's own universe makes the vehicle immune from collisions, experimentation has not been conducted and it is possible the kinetic energy produced by a vessel traveling at 4C hitting something may be akin to a new big bang. Likewise the math involving the interactions should a ship traveling at 4C intersect with a location in which a black hole is creating it's own doorway into a bubble universe, that math is still fuzzy.

@ vcindu, Mars is not an end goal. It is just a probable way station and a place where experiments possibly hazardous to life on Earth can be done, a better choice for an observatory, and convenient access to the incredibly rich mineral wealth of the asteroid belt, as well as easier access to the hydrocarbon (aka oil) rich atmosphere of Jupiter and Saturn.

RE: Walking home in cold Idaho rain.

Next time do not walk in the rain. Next time SKIP in the rain. laugh yay

RE: Guys will not feel it urgent to find a partner com

I agree with the survey. A balanced male who has his act together with a good income, why does he need a partner?

Especially in this universe where a date for the evening is no further away than the phone book.

What I see is while older women extablished one way or another are also often not that anxious for a partner, but younger women facing the hurdles of living at home or in a small apartment, with a menial job and little chance of it someday becoming a not menial job and a 14 year old car held together with rubber bands tend to be very anxious for a partner to act as life's shield.

RE: Goodbye

We mourn the passage of those who leave.

That being said, what I spoke of, I have seen some do.

RE: Thought for the Day... What would you say?

Insist on survivor annuity.

RE: Watching The Watchers

Yep. Ghosts that never go away. Know that one.

Back in 03 I warned someone I was being paid to advise it was a really bad idea. I saw really to me obvious comparisons to a place in SE Asia some of my HS buddies died in. I was ignored and out shouted by those with fancier degrees and whose boots had never gotten muddy. In 07 I quipped that when pull out time came one really did not wish to be one of US paid workers inside the Green Zone watching the last US helicopter flying away as 'those who behead' come a calling. For whatever reason my contract was declared no longer needed. Fine. Whatever.

So let's see. We have a hostile army of thousands approaching the gates. Without third party intervention (or some really big bribes on the order of those paid to Attila) I think Baghdad will possibly fall by the end of this week. Almost 10 years since my last visit to DC, but I am sure some words from the past are being spoken again. Words once spoken by Graham Martin. 'Decent Interval.' 100 extra US Marines for airport security today. May need a lot more. A lot more helicopters too. What do we have 5,700 Coptic Christian workers living inside our Green Zone? How many with family outside the checkpoints?

Ha. History repeats and very, very sadly I may soon be vindicated. Not that anyone will remember or care. How many workers today are being urged to stay at their post with assurances being given that they and their families will be evacuated if need be? Visions of people refused the ride hanging off landing skids of US Marine UH-1Ds flying away from our embassy in 1975 only to eventually drop off somewhere. Water or land, it made no difference. From 1,000+ feet at 100 MPH nothing lives.

Most have seen the videos ISIS released today. Clearly re-education of the defeated is not their primary agenda. I fear it will all be sudden, confused and panicked again just like last time. How many helicopters, how many seats? Sorry your id card doesn't have the Z indicator, go over there and wait and pray it will be quick.

Abandoning those loyal to us in Nam hurt us badly over the next 10 years on the international front. Shook our other allies to learn we may turn our backs and walk away from them too if the worst happened. Promises made, assurances given, it began to fade from memory. Now this. Let photos of our workers in the Green Zone hanging from the landing wheels or skids of Blackhawk helicopters be shown (from on cell camera or another) as Baghdad falls and twice dishonored we will be. Every Nation that has a dependence on US promises of military response if, will re-evaluate the decision to walk that path.

In 07 I told a coworker it doesn't matter who wins the election. They will inherit the nastiest ball of fishhooks imaginable. I blame the Congress and a corrupt media willing to accept money to broadcast war mongering hearsay propaganda as if it were actual news.

RE: Goodbye

Is anyone else noticing a sudden flood of resignations here?

One wonders exactly how many are really leaving, or are they just abandoning a profile that now bores to create a new one?

RE: bored

What kind of gym do you go to that doesn't allow or encourage women to go there too?

May I suggest switching to a gym where you can meet women who share your interest in exercise versus a male only gym?

RE: life is what happens when your'e too busy thinking

Hi Andie.
Welcome back.
Like you I was away for few months while playing with a new housemate. She left, so I am back.

RE: May I have your Attention please!

Don't worry about it.

RE: What is Humanism?

Why on earth would what we do in this life cycle have any relationship to what happens in the next cycle of energy/data? Doesn't that imply some kind of order which itself requires a Supreme Being to make the rules? I would much prefer believing it is all random and what you do in this life time will have zero impact on whether or not you a) come back in a different body, or b) have impact on what kind of life you come back into. I believe in blind chance and luck.

RE: What is Humanism?

BTW, I score only 83% so maybe there is hope for me. laugh
