It doesnt have to be about new releases: just post a critique on any movie you have watched recently, that you think maybe others might be interested in.
I thought it might be fun to have an ongoing thread giving our opinions on new release movies so others can get an idea of them, if they have not seem them yet.
I love movies, have a extensive DVD collection and particularly love historical/period/drama.
The last "new" movie I saw was Robin Hood, with Russel Crowe. I was really looking forward to this coming out, as I eat up these kinds of things. Sadly, I was disappointed. It seemed unexciting and boring in parts. The ending seemed to me to be more like the start of what it should have been, and I felt quite empty after watching it.
Adj.1.judgmental - depending on judgment; "a judgmental error"; "I think that she is too judgmental to be a good therapist" nonjudgmental - refraining from making judgments especially ones based on personal opinions or standards; "sympathetic and nonjudgmental"
The piece about being too judgemental to be a good therapist resonates with me because not everyone can be a therapist, or a social worker. Some people cannot detach themselves from their own personal views and therefore wrongly use them when discussing a case. Interesting point.
Also, a lawyer sometimes has to put personal judgements aside when asked to defend a particularly nasty piece of work. Ive seen how difficult that is for some of them, and many just turn down a case like that if they feel they cannot look at it objectively.
Not everyone is suited to be a therapist or a lawyer, or to hold a position in Personnel, say. All take a certain amount of detachment, in my opinion.
We certainly do judge. We judge everyone and every situation in life. We judge, because it is a way of deciding if that person/situation is for you, and whether you like it or not. You judge to see if there is danger, or bitterness or things that you dislike.
Its not wrong to judge; its a natural form of self preservation. To be JUDGEMENTAL, however, is a different thing entirely.
ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- An elderly woman was robbed in St. Lawrence County. It happened in the parking lot of the ******* Motel in Oswegatchie around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Sheriff's deputies say the 80-year-old woman was waiting outside while her husband checked into the hotel when a man approached her, holding what appeared to be a club or pipe, and stole her purse.
The male is described as in his late teens or early 20s, slim build, wearing dark pants and a dark hat and jacket. The missing purse is a Vera Bradley with a floral pattern.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (315) 379-2222."
The above was a broadcast I just saw on our local news. This IS THE HOTEL I WORK AT! I would have normally been on duty on Friday night, but have been sick.
Well, I was joking somewhat about the 30% interest!
You can still use a debit card online, if you have a bank account, and even if you dont you can use a pre-paid credit card, which allows you to do exactly the same but without the temptation to go over your limit. I think they are a great idea.
I buy most of my stuff online, or in the local small stores. I hate shopping!
I would agree that if it is your contact with others, and what keeps you in touch with what is going on around the world and the country I would consider it pretty much a necessity.
I totally agree, cooking..credit cards are very useful, when used as they should be. For emergencies, when you are travelling, if you pay back the balance immediately each month and accrue no interest. They can indeed be extremely useful.
I think Netflix sounds great, and good on you for doing that.
Basic cable - which works out about $13 per month is the most I want to pay. I have an extensive DVD collection, so many times we watch them instead of TV anyway.
As regards your comments about cable, it depends on where you live as to whether you can do without it or not.
Here, in Upper NY State, you have to have some kind of cable or digital; there is nothing else. One company has the monopoly here, and although I only have basic cable, because we really dont watch much TV these days, we still have a bill of $110 per month. 80% of that is for internet and landline phone. There are no options, no competition and if you want internet and a landline you have to pay it.
We pay the least we possibly can, and it bugs me big time every month when I have to pay the cable/internet/phone bill. However, its still cheaper than cell phone plans.
Toys are great if you can afford them, and are able to pay all the bills, buy the food, run the truck if you need one, etc. They are the necessities, and need to come first.
What seems to have been lost is that these things COME BEFORE the trainers, the flatscreens, etc. Or they should do! It doesnt matter if you have 5 TVs in the house, as long as you either have your bills up to day, or dont whinge about "not having enough", and even worse, blame it on the country you are living in.
The thread was really started after reading the threads about the riots in London; there is no doubt in my mind that alot of the mentality of these rioters does not stem from trying to survive at all.
D and I are lucky; we have a very low house payment which is nearly cleared, we both work and therefore are able to afford a few luxuries along with all the bills. But there have been times, particularly when we were struggling through the immigration costs, that we lived on turkey soup for months and had no luxuries at all. Priorities..
I still buy most of my clothes from charity shops; not because I have to, but because I learnt to be frugal when I had to and discovered that even when I had more money, I enjoyed the bargain hunting!
As you say, materialism is just crazy these days, keeping up with the Jones and projecting an image.
Exactly. Those who are up to their eyes in credit card debt only have themselves to blame. You cannot blame the banks; they may be immoral in shoving credit down our necks but its not illegal, and we are all able to turn away and through the mail in the garbage. We do not have to take them!
This is the problem with the kids now; they were raised by parents who grew up in the credit boom and thought they could have it all and not pay for it. Unfortunately, the kids were taught the same.
