We are lucky here; we are only now getting any residue effects at all from Irene.
This morning it is extra gusty and a large rainfall is forecasted for the day, but nothing more. The path of the storm is a little East of us, but not by much!
Monte, my best wishes and hopes for you and your property to come through it safe and sound.
I guess, living where I do, on a border, I get to meet alot of different people, yes. Combined with my present job, then it means I am lucky enough to get variety in my contacts!
Yes, I found it interesting when I moved to Nottingham for a while, the differences there. I had lived all my life South of the Watford Gap, and discovered the North/South Divide! Everyone was tremendously warm and friendly though, and I learnt the phrase "Eee Up, Duck" into the bargain..
Not fully repaired yet; still suffering from great tiredness. Am on multi-vits to help boost my immune system back up.
Personally, I wouldnt try to work out why they said what they said. I would simply let them know that what they said hurt you, and make it clear that you are now thinking of cutting ties.
Its funny, how when a thread is posted regarding a positive outlook on the States, not many people reply. But when a USA-Bashing topic is put up, everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
Very sad.
I dont know what is wrong with everyone on here these days, but the majority seem to just want to talk war, and negative stuff. Its getting real boring..
Yeah, its very cool to be able to meet so many different people. I think it is the way to an open mind. You dont have to agree with everyone, but to meet them and experience them is most interesting!
One of the things I am noticing since living in the States is the diversity of its peoples.
Especially since I started working in the hospitality industry, I have met guests from almost every state I can think of, and it is generally a wonderful experience! The different accents, the different outlooks people have of the area is really great. No two groups are the same and it is one of the more interesting aspects of my job.
I have just checked in a group from Texas, which I believe is my first. They were laughing, smiling, and jolly and their accents just made me want to go hoe down somewhere!
Whatever people may think of the USA, you cannot deny the fact it is a wonderful, melting pot of cultures who generally get on with each other in a way no other country can claim to, from my experience of travelling.
Actually, I DID read it from the beginning. I understood that you were using your own personal example as a jump-off point for a more general discussion about communication on here.
I did not witness the issue you are personally referring to, so cannot and will not comment.
I didnt realise this thread was regarding a particular incident you have had recently, Monte, I thought it was a generic thread regarding communication styles, so I was commenting generically on my own experiences and views on being on the forums.
If someone has upset you, I am very sorry and my comments in no way related to your own experience, but in general.
I guess this is a perfect example of how communication gets misunderstood!
I am a little out of touch now with the rugby form, but would love to see England recreate their Glory Days. Back when they were in form,no one could beat them.
Another interesting issue on the thread topic of "Social" snobbery is that, irrespective of education, financial status, etc, there will always be an "In Crowd". People who band together, for no apparent reason other than they feel like it on that given day, in defiance of others.
That could also be construed as a version of snobbery, and there is no doubt that happens on here, and in life outside on a daily basis.
My personal opinion is that there is a class system existing still in England, will ALWAYS be a class system existing in England and the best thing to do, whatever country you are in, is just go your own way and deal with your own life.
