One of the reasons I am sat here now, very happy, is that I sent a flower to my guy on here around 3 years ago.
He was surprised and flattered, I believe, and the rest is history.
Never be afraid to make the first move: men have been doing it since the beginning of time, and if we want equality we have to take our share of the risk.
There are some very nice ladies around, Travas, so persevere. Many have, and still are finding love on here, so keep at it, and I wish you much luck and happiness.
Well, reading through this thread Im confused already!
Yes, it would make life so much easier to have it all standardized. I doubt that I will be doing much driving outside NY State, but even so..
One of the different laws here in NYS is that you may turn right at an intersection even if the light is on red, if there is no sign to the contrary. If there is a sign saying No Right Turn on Red, then you cant. Trouble is, some of these signs are not very strategically placed, so you could be easily caught out.
Oh well: finished my Driver's Ed course tonight and just scheduled my road test for October 28 - the earliest I could get it.
I believe that obese is dangerous; its not so much the look, but the health issues. As I said earlier in the thread, obese people's life spans can be severely affected by their condition and to inflict that worry onto loved ones is unfair, in my opinion.
I have to admit, it does make me laugh when, on TV, there is a commercial for a gym or a weight loss program, which is immediately followed by an advert for a fast food bargain outlet!
Yes, its a big problem, but I really dont think its any worse than any other Western country, Galway. I saw just as many obese people in other countries than I have here.
However, with the US being so big and diverse, I cannot speak for other States; only what I have seen here in NY.
I agree with you, as regards the difference between overweight and obese.
Weight doesnt bother me either, but someone who is clinically/morbidly obese for any reason other than an unavoidable health issue is a No-Go. Not because so much of the way they look, but because their obesity would mean they are putting their life at risk, and therefore those of others close to them. A morbidly obese man, for instance, may not live to see their children grow up, and therefore would not be an attractive proposition as regards starting a family with. Or a morbidly obese woman many not be able to have children due to the dangers to her health through pregnancy, so ditto...
Even here in Health Insured America, gastric band operations are affordable sometimes, so there is really no excuse for dangerous obesity, and it could be construed as being extremely selfish to allow oneself to get to that point.
I knew a guy in England years back, who was not the best looking guy in the world, was really quite shy and insecure. He never went out of the house, grew dope plants in his press and used the internet as his sole form of social contact and entertainment. Consequently, with all those factors combined, he became very agrophobic and insular.
When I decided I only wanted his friendship and nothing else, he became very creepy, stalked me with text messages and emails, verbally abused me constantly to the extent I had to change my cell phone number and block his emails.
I find it truely frightening that people get so involved with the internet that it is used to the detriment of life outside their four walls. They get so caught up in it that they base all their decisions in life on it, and loose touch with reality. In this day and age of poor employment, more and more people are stuck at home, with nothing else to think about, and its no wonder that these creeps and creepesses abound.
Thank you Bod, for bringing this to our attention once again, and I hope those poor victims RIP.
Well, there is no written test here, as far as I know; and I dont know what the requirements are if you move from State to State. Given what I've seen of some of the driving here, an Oompa Lumpa could pass it!
I know, in the UK now, there is a long written test as well as the practical; when I took it it was just the practical.
Of course, here you all drive on the wrong side of the road anyway!
Having lived in the States for 2 years now, I thought it was about time I got my NY State Driver's License.. Ive been lazy, and let others drive me around but now it would be nice to get it before the Winter.
Here, in NY State, you can drive on an International License for 60 days legally, and then after that you should apply for a NY License.
The annoying thing is, it varies from State to State, and here - although I have been driving since I was 17 (so nearly 30 years), I still have to go through the process: get a Learner Permit, do a Driver's Ed course and then re-take my road test. I did the first half of my Driver's Ed last night (its 5 hours in total) and I was the only person over the age of 20!
But, apparently, the road test is very short, compared to the 45 mins plus I had to do in the UK many moons ago.
What are the requirements in your country/State? Do you think it should be standardised to make it easier to travel around the world?
