RE: The Long Goodbye: The Never-Ending Virtual Romantic Relationship

You know what? You sound like you actually are sticking up for The Wall, and the way he spoke to both myself and the OP. Both cases were disgusting, poisonous comments that were completely unwarranted and full of cusswords and nastiness. There is no way anyone, in their right mind, could possibly defend them in any shape or form. I certainly did nothing to warrant his comments, and neither did the OP.

In any event, TheWall apologised to me in another thread for his comments and we shook hands on it. Not because I felt forgiveness for him, but because it was purile and pointless to hold a grudge. We all have bad days, myself included, and even though his comments hurt I decided to not hold on to any acrimony. I didnt even report the man, although I would have been fully within my rights to do so. If the OP of this thread did so, then that was his preogative, as it was his thread that was hijacked.

I understand you are a friend of Thewall, and I admire you for your loyalty, but that doesnt mean what he said warrants sympathy. It doesnt. If he was banned, it was down to his own behaviour and no-one elses.

I hope to see him back on the forums again in the future.

RE: riots in London

I would like to see the breakdown, if they have it, of the types of stores that were looted.

I'd stake my next paycheck on the chances of sportsware, techniks and other luxury good stores being highest on the list, and food stores being no where.

These were no poor, desperate, starving kids; they were simply troublemakers, fuelled by hate and prejudice-driven anger. Prejudice not against them, but their prejudice against the country they live in. very mad

Living Beyond One's Means

Wow, Im really fed up to the back teeth of people questioning questioning questioning..

I, for one, am not a person who says anything that does not have substance, basis or the proof of experience and I am getting truly bored with others questioning others.

There are people in the Riots in London thread who are ex-police, lawyers KNOW what they are talking about and are still getting questioned.

Heaven Forbid, there are some of us who actually know what we are talking about.

Yes. I LIVE NEXT DOOR TO A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT I WROTE.

RE: riots in London

Further, lets not forget the many police officers who lost their lives in these events over the years, and their families who had to live on.

Yes, these officers knew the risks of their profession: SO DID THE RIOTERS.

RE: riots in London

Yes, Im completely aware of that.

It was a somewhat sarcastic comment.

This thread is not about guns, gun traffiking or anything to do with guns.

The only reason I even mentioned guns was because I am sure they are not cheap to buy, WHEREVER they come from, and therefore you have to have the money to buy them in the first place.

RE: riots in London

Any person who thinks that looting their neighborhood business and intimidating other law abiding citizens into being virtual hostages in their own homes certainly dont come across as rocket scientists to me!roll eyes

RE: riots in London

There was always be those who have more than others. Thats capitalism for you; the way of the world that we all voted for in the UK, the USA and the majority of the Western World.

We know what the cause of the riots were; idiots and mobsters who simply used the undercurrents as an excuse to get their boys on the streets, add to their caches, intimidate other poor folk on the block and try and look big and get on TV. Nothing much more.

As I said previously, the Poll Tax riots were nothing compared to this, the peaceful and official demonstrations outnumbered them. Thats what got the point across; not indiscriminate looting.

RE: riots in London

No, thats not what Im saying. I fully agree with the fact that there is a problem with the bankers, et al. And something needs to be done. Rioting in the streets is not the way, thats what I am saying, and no amount of righteous garbling is going to change that. Two wrongs dont make a right and all that. And that my friend, seems TO GO OVER YOUR HEAD!

Oh, really, and you know all and every banker's ethnic/financial backgrounds anymore than I do, do you? Yes, most of them come from wealthy backgrounds, I am sure, but I have heard tell of those that dont and have risen up the ranks.

These riots have nothing to do with CLASS. Who is of 'another class'? To whom do you refer? Are you talking about the looters? Because I certainly never said they were of a different class. A different mentality certainly, but I never mentioned the "class isssue".

It seems that is really what your issue is here; another one with a chip on his shoulder.roll eyes

Living Beyond One's Means

Well, I guess the ones that are living beyond their means, know it but really dont care are unlikely to post!

RE: riots in London

RE: riots in London

Ah, get real.laugh

Now, either the news coverages were wrong or I am going blind, because pretty much EVERY looting caught on camera was grinning, laughing, attacking other injured looters further and none of them seemed particularly desperate looking to me.

I have no doubt that generelly law abiding citizens got caught up in things and ended up getting arrested too, but that is not what I was saying.

And the argument regarding politicians and bankers really is, as I have already said quite clearly, not going to be helped by riots. Many of those bankers and politicians by the way, are probably from less than well off areas and made it to the top. We in general applaud people for "getting out of the ghetto" and moving up; now, it seems we are being picky about who we choose to applaud.roll eyes

RE: riots in London

Id agree with the mob mentality part, but thats about all.

Desperate and hopeless they certainly are not.

Living Beyond One's Means

We are all saying we live in our means. We have no debt or possess no credit cards. I'd say we are in the minority then, because someone has!

The ones that live in homes meant for poorer people, for instance, and then arm their kids with cellphones, iPods and fancy clothes.

Poor, poor people indeed.roll eyes very mad

RE: riots in London

Yes, and I agree with you. But that only happens in a perfect world. This isnt.

I am just sick and tired of hearing excuses, or anything that comes close to making an excuse for these idiots.

RE: riots in London

Rubbish.

They just used it as an excuse.

Living Beyond One's Means

Given the state of the world today, and the number of threads about that are discussing the economic hardships of the world, it still amazes me that people are still living beyond their means quite clearly.

Ok, the following (in my opinion) are not essentials:-

1. Ipods
2. Cellphones
3. Flat screen TVs
4. DVD players
5. Car DVD players roll eyes
6. Brand new vehicles
7. Having more than one vehicle
8. Having ANY vehicle in some areas
9. Designer ANYTHING
10. Hair styling
11. Hair straighteners roll eyes roll eyes
12. 5 TVs
13. And the list goes on..

When will people realise that these things are NOT essentials in life? I hear people all the time fighting over bills and then popping down to Walmart to update their digital camera or cellphone?

A perfect case in point is the guy that got shot by the police in the UK and which started off the riots. Where did he get the money to get the gun in the first place? Of course, guns are available to anyone at a price. And the price will no doubt not be cheap.

Kind of says it all, really.doh

RE: riots in London

DOWN TO THE PARENTS

RE: riots in London

No, not really. Its the same in many places, including where I live.

The winter temps go down waaay lower than they ever do in the UK, and we still have to survive. The only difference is, as far as I can remember, is that the heating companies here cannot turn your electric/gas supply off during the winter, irrespective of whether you are behind with your bills or not. Of course, you still have to catch up in the Spring, but it still is a great idea - especially for older folk.

Gas (petrol) prices here are just as high, and its a struggle for everyone to get around.

As regards some of the other comments on the thread regarding the youth hoodlums in London - well, Bestbefore I totally agree with you.

One sits and watches the news reports, and what does one see? Idiots grinning into the cameras, wearing designer hoodies, designer trainers, designer jeans, designer sunglass, bla bla bloody bla.
very mad

It makes me sick to my stomach that these individuals are still roaming the streets, still live in the same country as my 80-year old mother who lives on her own there, and they simply have no damn respect for anyone or anything.

What others have said regarding they dont know what poverty is is also true: Mom and Pops will always be there for them in most case, fuelling their racial views, their prejudice outlooks and their complete lack of respect for anyone.

The youngers who are REALLY poor, and REALLY suffering, do not have the energy, the force of will or the means to get around to attend these riots, so its quite obvious who, and what type of person IS.

If it was up to me, Id throw every man jack of them in jail, for even being there, remove their clothing, their gold jewellery and their ipods and make them live in REAL squalor for a few months.

It is not down to the Government, the world ecconomic policy, the teachers or the social workers that these kids think they have a right: it is DOWN THE PARENTS who fed them the BS in the first place.

RE: The 2012 Olympics to be moved to a safer country?

The riots that have been going on sadly in the UK are a result of domestic financial hardships and job shortages, as we all know.

Hopefully, things will soon be cleared up and the guilty in jail where they belong.

However, this was a display of domestic unrest, and when it comes to projecting a united country, proud of its roots, extremely good security forces and ability to hold big events that are watched world wide, there is no-one better than the UK. Its people will united together and the Olympic Games will be a triumph to the hard work of the security/defence forces, the organization of the people and the pride that will always ensure Britain does us proud.

It has been a few weeks now since the surgery, and Im doing ok, but I have noticed I cannot eat certain things I used to eat before. Not having a gall bladder makes my digestion a lot more sensitive, I guess!

Fatty foods are the worst.

RE: The Long Goodbye: The Never-Ending Virtual Romantic Relationship

Really...A poor, kind soul? Firstly, I am sure The Wall is big enough to fight his own battles. Secondly, no real man speaks to another person - ESPECIALLY A WOMAN - like he has spoken. Thirdly, many of us, over the last weeks have tried to help Ambrose, including suggesting that he stop the threads - myself included. We just did it in a more mannerly, un-insulting way than others did. So, WHERE WERE YOU, that you didnt see that?

I suggest that you keep up with the whole program, and not just certain parts.roll eyes

RE: USA...And The Reasons For Unemployment?

Hi, my friend.wine bouquet

I took a job on the front desk of a hotel a couple of months ago, as that was all there was about. Its actually quite well paid for the work and my boss is great.

It will certainly add to my resume and keep the pennies coming in, until the legal sector improves. Sometimes, its hard to be patient, but when I get annoyed I think how lucky I am to have a job at all.

Also, i have been quite amazed at how many still have the money to stay in hotels, actually. Not just standard rooms, but executive rooms and jacuzzi rooms which are quite expense.

Seems people will still always find the money for their luxuries! I think, in these depressing times, it is always good to still make room for a little frivolity!
