RE: Happy Canada Day!

Very true equiya. It's not perfect, but it has many great things about it. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.canada

RE: canada bound....

Sounds like a good plan.... there is lots to see in Vancouver and surrounding areas. You are also close to the mountains and can go see them.

Venting....

The picture of a painting I did, was being used as MY profile photo. I thought it showed a little about who I am. The Moderators for CS decided differently, and took it down and sent me an email about it being the incorrect photo to show.

The photo I used also screened for morons who would email me and comment on my smile. Duh it was a picture of landscape painting, not of my face.

I am only on CS for the jokes and other's to send messages.

I feel that CS should go after people showing just a photo of a child, a photo from 20 yrs ago or fake photos (of models or celebraties/cartoon characters) is more misleading.

I'm Irish and I love harps....

RE: What are you listening to?

RE: What are you listening to?

The Old Orange Flute
In the county Tyrone, in the town of Dungannon
Where many a ruckus meself had a hand in
Bob Williamson lived there, a weaver by trade
And all of us thought him a stout-hearted blade.
On the twelfth of July as it yearly did come
Bob played on the flute to the sound of the drum
You can talk of your fiddles, your harp or your lute
But there's nothing could sound like the Old Orange Flute.
But the treacherous scoundrel, he took us all in
For he married a Papish named Bridget McGinn
Turned Papish himself and forsook the Old Cause
That gave us our freedom, religion and laws.
And the boys in the county made such a stir on it
They forced Bob to flee to the province of Connaught;
Took with him his wife and his fixins, to boot,
And along with the rest went the Old Orange Flute.
Each Sunday at mass, to atone for past deeds,
Bob said Paters and Aves and counted his beads
Till one Sunday morn, at the priest's own require
Bob went for to play with the flutes in the choir.
He went for to play with the flutes in the mass
But the instrument quivered and cried."O Alas!"
And blow as he would, though he made a great noise,
The flute would play only "The Protestant Boys".
Bob jumped up and huffed, and was all in a flutter.
He pitched the old flute in the best holy water;
He thought that this charm would bring some other sound,
When he tried it again, it played "Croppies Lie Down!"
And for all he would finger and twiddle and blow
For to play Papish music, the flute would not go;
"Kick the Pope" to "Boyne Water" was all it would sound
Not one Papish bleat in it could e'er be found.
At a council of priests that was held the next day
They decided to banish the Old Flute away;
They couldn't knock heresy out of its head
So they bought Bob another to play in its stead.
And the Old Flute was doomed, and its fate was pathetic
'Twas fastened and burnt at the stake as heretic.
As the flames rose around it, you could hear a strange noise
'Twas the Old Flute still a-whistlin' "The Protestant Boys".

I went to a concert tonight ... it was awesome!!! A very talented young pianist Benjamin Grosvenor. If you ever get the chance to see and hear this young man play, you are in for a treat.

A wonderful Definition of Love

I read this and felt it was too good not to share.

"I met my bride of 42 years while stationed in Japan with the U.S. Army, and fell in love almost immediately. My future bride told me that Americans too often equate love to a burning fire. She said that the fire burns out and becomes cold ashes.

Her philosophy was that true love is like flowing water. It runs in rivulets down hillsides and joins creeks that become rivers. It gains in strength and intensity through these travels until it flows into the sea.

Now after 42 years of marriage to this wonderful lady, I can also say that the greatest definition of love is that "love is giving what you need to get." -- Paul"

RE: THE M WORD! . . marriage . .

This is from a news article and thought it was worth sharing.

DEAR AMY: I enjoy your rational and useful responses to your readers. I felt blessed reading "Seymour's" letter about his long and happy marriage.

This spring my perfect husband of 63 years passed away. He was 91 and I am 88.

Newlyweds could benefit from a column on successful marriages. My contribution would be:

1. A careful selection at the outset (remember the butterflies).

2. Great chemistry is essential. This nurtures mutual admiration and affection.

3. Partners must be content and fulfilled in their careers.

4. Healthwise: no smoking and moderate alcohol.

My idea of heaven would be a rerun of our life together. -- Jacqueline

DEAR JACQUELINE: Thank you so much for your inspiring and lovely story. What a testament to a long and happy union!

Your idea of heaven is very appealling, too

RE: The "I am" thread

I am not sure if I am dreading this week ... or if I will be a basket case .... Tuesday 1 year ago my mother passed away ... crying

I know she is not suffering anymore, but I still miss her.

RE: You may live in Alberta if,...

We were having a bit of a down pour earlier ... going to have to skate to work tomorrow.

RE: The "I am" thread

I am a head of you on changing photo ... funny how I am still getting emails about my smile ... do you see a smile?? rolling on the floor laughing

RE: The "I am" thread

I am feeling content....
My son was ready to walk out the door with the piece of coal 45 minuntes before midnight. Midnight came, he went out the door and I was banging the metal spoon on a pan. It was loud but lots of fun.... and when Eric got in the door, (and the 2 dogs were barking)... he took over ringing in the new year hitting the spoon on the pan. I do not not give a fig what my neighbors thought, and laughed while banging the pan. The expression on my son's face, priceless!!!! Then we called my Dad and left a message, called Brian leaving him a silly new years message and talked to Brian's mom.... we needed to be silly and it helped.
Happy new years.

RE: The "I am" thread

My son and I would not have a problem banging the metal spoon on the pan to help keep you awake :-) best of wishes.

RE: The "I am" thread

I am sitting with a glass of wine, crackers, some bri, and slices of apple. My wonderful son is going to help me make some noise when midnight arrives. He is going to take a lump of coal, go out the back door and enter the front door ... and I'm going to make lots of noise banging the frying pay with a spoon to chase away sadness, and bad luck. I hope it will be as funny and silly as it sounds and both of us will start the New Year laughing instead of sad and with tears.

Cheers. wine

Do you have New Year traditions .... if so please share.

Mary Poppins loses out to Jeff Dunham ... he is insane and never fails to make me laugh.

Do you have New Year traditions .... if so please share.

Dear Kid, I hope this 2012 will be a much better year for you. Best of wishes. Home tonight as well... Mary Poppins is going to be on the telly. I am contemplating watching it and take a trip down memory lane from my childhood. wine coffee

RE: The "I am" thread

I am hoping Langleygirl's migrains will settle down and hopes she knows how lovely she looks with her new hair color :-)

Do you have New Year traditions .... if so please share.

Usually late at night/morning New Years Eve I like to sit and reflect on what I am grateful for. My list would be too long to post and last year we were watching over mom while she was suffering and dying.

So for a start I am greatful my father is still here, that my mother as much as I miss her is no longer suffering. Nephew was in an auto accident and was not badly hurt. I am greatful for Brian and his mother getting me through the last 3 yrs whle my mother suffered from cancer. I am greatful for my children, Brian, friends and family even though we annoy each other. My 2 dogs, the miracles I see with the individuals I work with. Having a roof over my head.

As silly as it sounds, I am greatful my best friend introduced me to Blueberry tea. :-) Books... I love books and music and art ..... I could go on and on and on.... :-)
Ok eveyone, it's your turn to add to the list...
