RE: James Caan gone at 82

You are 67 years old and you never saw any of the Godfather films? What's wrong with you?

Almost everybody has seen Godfather II and can recite several scenes that made the movie famous.

Do you live in a shoe?laugh

RE: James Caan gone at 82

He also had a part in a long tv series on tv of a show called Las Vegas.
He was the boss in the casino named Montecito.
The interesting thing of that part is that he was also in the CIA in the show but nobody knew it.
He played the part so well that the public who watched the show really believed in was in the CIA.

RE: James Caan gone at 82

You probably know who he is....

Did you see the Godfather? James Caan played the tempermental son of the godfather.

Did you see Misery? He was a writer who had an accident in a snowstorm. He was found by a woman who tortured him as he lay in bed recuperating.

Did you see Brian's Song? Chicago Bears football player stricken with terminal cancer.

RE: Why homelessness is a big world problem

People lost their job and businesses were closed when Covid-19 hit us. In April 2021, NATO Foreign and Defence ministers decided to withdraw all Allied troops from Afghanistan. That made for an influx of our military to come home to jobs that were no longer there. Where did they sleep? How did they eat? Where did they get medical care when hospitals were full to the core with Covid-19 patients? They became homeless along with people who once had a factory job, a job in a bakery making delicious treats, a job making furniture, etc. It all went down the tubes when a virus killed many and derailed many who wanted to work.
People who lost their job because a business folded will try to find another job but in the past two years they were turned away. So what does one do. Go homeless and live in a cardboard box or the route of suicide? Being homeless is sometimes a choice when you have a family that depends on you. Homeless people hope that the day will come when somebody will just give them a chance to make minimum wage.

"In April 2020, the Census Bureau began the Household Pulse Survey to collect nearly real-time data on how families were faring during this unprecedented crisis. At the end of 2021, the Census Bureau had released data from 39 Pulse surveys on household well-being. CBPP and others used this data to assess hardship and the impact of relief measures.

With the end of bi-weekly Pulse data releases in October 2021, this tracker will no longer be updated. The Census Bureau will continue to release Household Pulse data on a monthly basis, and CBPP will continue to analyze and write about the effects of pandemic-relief measures, including the important role of government policies in reducing hardship and poverty.

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic fallout caused significant hardship. In the early months of the crisis, tens of millions of people lost their jobs. While employment began to rebound within a few months, unemployment remained high throughout 2020. Improving employment and substantial relief measures helped reduce the very high levels of hardship seen in the summer of 2020. Nonetheless, considerable unmet need remained near the end of 2021, with 20 million households reporting having too little to eat in the past seven days and 10 million households behind on rent. In early 2022, some 3 million fewer people are employed than before the pandemic, though steady progress has been made, including in recent months.

Hardship in 2020 and 2021 would have been far worse without extraordinary steps taken by the federal government, states, and localities to respond to the pandemic and its economic fallout. Key hardship indicators showed strong improvement during early 2021, aided by job growth and government benefits. Hardship rates fell especially fast after the enactment of the American Rescue Plan Act on March 11, 2021, which included $1,400 payments for most Americans as well as other assistance to struggling households. (See Figure 1.) Food hardship among adults with children also fell after the federal government began issuing monthly payments of the expanded Child Tax Credit on July 15, 2021, along with improvements in food assistance.

Still, according to the Pulse survey, in October 2021, nearly 20 million adults lived in households that did not get enough to eat, 12 million adult renters were behind on rent, and some of the progress from late March appeared to have stalled as other troubles continued to affect the economy, including expiring unemployment benefits and supply chain problems that contributed to rising prices for many goods."

RE: HAVE FUN AT WORK on July 4th, ENGLAND !

Thank you Cell.

For the record I did watch the Silver Salute to your Queen on tv and loved every minute of it. The music, the flags, the crowd shouting for the Queen, it was all mesmerizing. I especially liked the number 70 made by the airplanes in the sky. I don't follow your government, heck I rarely follow mine, but I like Queen Elizabeth.

You are right, God Bless America

RE: Does anyone remember the time when CS was a dating site ?

It still is a dating site. It changes when the threads are overrun with political threads, or during the pandemic threads covid. Or one particular member flooding the forums with subjects encouraging people to fight.

CS is what people make it to be.

If I wasn't a member and was looking for a social site to join I wouldn't join CS based on the subjects in the forums.

About three weeks ago there was a thread about CS being quiet. I mentioned it was quiet because two members weren't posting. As soon as those two members came back the arguments started again.

People like to fight behind a computer screen because there are no repercussions.

And then once in awhile we have fun threads like Didi has been writing or joke threads.applause

RE: What is your favourite small kitchen appliance?

Air Fryer

RE: Frugality: Our Pocket and the Planet's

Believe it or not heat will also take the sticky stuff off.

Sometimes I want to reuse the plastic milk cartons for something else and I don't want the label to be on it. Rather than try to peel the label off I fill the carton with very hot tap water, put the cap back on it and about 15 minutes later the label will come off in one full swoop leaving no residue behind. Works every time.

RE: Does anyone remember the time when CS was a dating site ?

Hanging around on the forums is a good way to see how someone thinks about world matters, what is important to them, if they are compassionate and if they have a kind bone in their body. On the forums people say what is really on their mind, they don't hold back, whereas even on a first time coffee date people are suspicious and won't express their true feelings about a subject.

RE: Frugality: Our Pocket and the Planet's

After you peel off the label alcohol will usually take the sticky residue off that is left behind.

RE: My Toaster

My recommendation......

RE: My Toaster

Yes. Tonight I am heating something that is frozen. It's not fatty nor does it have a lot of crumbs. I won't clean it because it was just a vessel to heat something to get crispy. If I make salmon, steak, burgers, etc. I always clean it that night.

The brand name of mine is Cosori. I like it because it has a square basket which is good when you are cooking a lot of chicken wings.

RE: My Toaster

Mine is easy to clean too. I don't immerse it in water when it is hot cause I'm afraid it will warp. If I cooked something that left a lot of residue I soak it after it cools to loosen stuff for about 5 minutes and then put it in the dishwasher. Comes out very clean each time. I haven't used my oven since I bought it which is over a year.

RE: My Toaster

wave I make a lot of different foods in my air fryer including toast. I don't have a toaster so I set the air fryer at 400 for 1 minute.

RE: So , when did you become old & bitter ?

RE: How many toxic people do you know on CS, or elsewhere, guilty of this behavior?

About 5 including women

RE: Can you find it?

tongue grin

RE: How did you choose your profile name?

I've had three names. First one was Snuggles, second one was Monte and now SecretAgent.

I probably had just watched a 007 movie when I was getting ready to make a profile. It certainly is not an ambition to be a secret agent. I remember a guy on here actually asked me if I was a secret agent. uh oh

In the first picture there is a directional pointing to the right but there isn't a road on the right to turn to.

In the second picture the door handles are on the bottom of the doors making it difficult for people to reach.

RE: Music game

RE: WHY ARE THE GOOD WOMEN TAKEN???

I agree. Very young women don't want a man who they have to take care of their medical needs or even have to walk on eggshells so they don't anger the guy. Most young women want to go out dancing and party all night long.

I remember meeting a guy who had one leg. He was a great lover and the missing leg didn't make any difference. There were other reasons why I didn't pursue a relationship with him.

I don't know if disability is a true term for autism but it is probably the only disability that I might not get involved with. You need to be educated to know how to be patient with it. I think (not sure) that Selene is trained in this.

There are good women on CS. I am a good woman but I am too old to want a relationship even though I could still light up his life laugh

RE: Connecting Singles - How do they do it?

Me too. However, if I click on a controversial news story I still get ads.
