Just FYI....they had a very large gathering of Americans to watch the last Shuttle Flight. Largest group of Shuttle watchers since the first Shuttle lifted off years ago. They came from all over the country to see Atlantis fly. All over the world even.

All were wired into the local news channels because the weather was bad and they might have to cancel the flight. The local media did not do President Obama any favors. There were few nice words for the President and a NASA worker interview every 15 minutes to launch. Question like what are you going to do now? Quess what?
Many want to go to Afghanistan and help rebuild the country. These are very patriotic people that Obama just laid off.

NASA flew Atlantis even though they barely had weather minimums. Some said it was below minimums even. NASA just wanted to show what the old girl could do.

That they could put her into orbit, even in the worse of conditions. See when they had the Challenger accident, they changed the weather minimums and made them more safer. Today, the NASA managers...said what the heck....if this is the last flight....we will show you. She flies. Good or bad weather.

When do we go to Mars, Dude? 2040 or 2050? What happens till then? The 8000 NASA workers were laid off with the end of the Shuttle program. In 30 or 40 years years, they will be dried bones on the KSC beach from starvation and thirst. Drier than the astriods that he wants to fly too in 2020-2025.

The Obama/Islam/NASA/Apollo Connection is a real one. The three Shuttles had another 225 mission on each to fly before their service life ended. Obama has spent 35% more than the GWB administration did. That is like 900b a year. So he surely could have funded the few billion (3b I think) a year needed for Shuttle operations. But then he also cancels the Aries/Constellation program (1.5b per year I think) that was all American built (meaning 1000s of jobs)and had flown a successful test flight. Its first major mission was to build a lunar base on a pole of the moon. Near that water.

In stead he by-passes the moon for the Astriods and Mars. All because of Islamic pressure on him to change the American space program. Begins talks with a foreign private contractor....that will hire workers from all over the world tofly his lift rocket.
Send the NASA director on a Muslim outreach program to congratulate them on algebra, geometry and measuring the stars with plum lines.))

So to do 10 alQeada leaders in the same timeline....is 70 months or just under 6 years. 20 alQeada leaders is 12 years time. You got to remember that some of your covert operations are going to miss the target. John Wayne in Green Beret had one go south. So if the Duke can miss....sure as shootin, Seal Team 6 can.

You notice the other thing here, Conrad? That it was the Japanese themselves that began the man hunts for accused war criminals.The Japanese brought them to justice.

Unlike Iraq....were Sadam Hussien was hunted down by the American forces. Unlike Afghanistan and Pakistan were bin laden could slip the net and hide in Pakistan for years.

Sure we have had locals Muslims help in both of these man hunts.
But we also have had allot of Muslim resistance to them as well.

The Japanese though beaten in the war, were still proud and held their diginity. They knew what had happened in the camps were crimes. Even though Japan was not a Geneva Convention signaturer.
They did not use that as a excuse not to aid the hunts. The people tipped on the fleeing war criminal enough so that most were rounded up in the first couple of years of Allied occupation. Like I said only the Bird of the top 40 slipped the net.

Lt. Zamperini is at a breaking point. He has endured the Bird and his beating but emotionally they are taking a toll on him. He has nightmares of the Bird. He and other POWs plan to murder the Bird.

They are about to put the plan into effect when the first of the two atomic bombs are dropped on Japan. Soon the second is dropped. And the war ends. But to 1000s of allied POWs, now with out food and security of camp guards life is still difficult. The allies begin now to drop food bundles to the 132 POW camps in Japan from their aircraft. First it was just some fighter aircraft reconn for camps that would drop a chocolate bar. Soon it was B-28, B-18s and transport aircraft dropping food bundles to these remote camps.

The POW actually have so much food that they begin to share it with the local Japanese civilians. Radio contact with the allied command is made and after about 2 weeks from the formal end of war signing, a train is sent to pick the POWs up at this west coast camp. Lt. Zamperini is headed home. The Bird has fled into Japan.

There are some 132,000 allied POW to process out of Japan. They are first sent to Okinawa for medical evualation and debriefing. It was at these debriefing the first of the various war crime charges begin to be processed into afflidaviads signed and sworn by the POWs. Most have lost so much body mass that they need hospital stays to recover. To treat barberi, malaria, and other deseases acguired in the camps.

Lt Zamperini does not see San Franisco or his family for
another 4 months of recovery time. On the outside his fit but emotionally, he is still fragile and having night mares of the Bird.

The Japanese war crime courts are beginning. The Bird made the top 40, in fact he is number 7 on the war crime list of the Allies. They want him bad, very bad. The Japanese police, now begin massive searches and man hunts for the wanted war crime fugitives. Including the Bird. They follow his family, open their mail, and try sting operation to get the family to divulge were the Bird is. The Bird had made a brief contact with them as the war ended, but has disappeared with the war crime arrested being done.

Some 830 Japanese prison guards were detained for war crimes committed on allied POWs. All told there were about 2600 war criminal in post war Japan. These guards were being held in a former POW camp near Tokyo. In the mean time LT. Zamperini has married and had a child. But now is drinking and still a emotional wreck. One night he attempts to strangle his wife in bed, thinking that she was the Bird. She being divorce proceedings. They live in the LA area and one young Rev Billy Graham has begun to preach the Gospel of Christ there.

She takes Louise to first one service, then another....and finally he remembers his oath to God....made on a raft 4 years earlier in the middle of the Pacific ...after 40 days of drifting with no food and water....that if God saved him, he would serve God the rest of his life. Louise walked forward in the Graham service rededicated his life to Christ. He goes home...drains his alchol and throws his cig away....and begins to turn his life around.

He knows of the coming war crime trials in Japan. So goes to Japan were he meets these 830 prison guards. He tell them in a assembly that he has forgiven them ad hold no ill will to any of them, including the Bird. This is about 1950, and the Bird has yet to be found. The rumor is that he is dead and committed suciede. But none are sure of this.

Albert...I liked the fact he said the word "win" in the piece on the defense and national security. When was the last time you heard that come from Washington? Even GWB was hesitant to use the word.

But go back to every major conflict that country has fought. The POTUS has to show the resolve, the determination and the desire to win. To define and find victory in a tough war and time.

Cain may not have the final winning goal or objective of the war on terrorism or the conflict in Afghanistan clarified in words. But at least he is talking about winning. None of the other are.

The REP canidates are going to let Obama do the withdrawal. Then let the results fall on him. The first time a Taliban/alQeada sponsored attack comes, they will point at him and say the withdrawal was done to early and the country is unsecure. All for votes. But that is not defining a victory either. That is just using the issue for politics.

Nor does Cain sound like a war hawk. The way I read it, he sees both hawks and doves positions in the politics of this. But that is how he is going to get painted by DEM and liberals. Say that word 'win' on the war on terrorism is like raising a red
flag in front of a bull to them.

How can we 'win' in Afghanistan? The Russian could not win there. No one has won there since Alexander the Great blah blah blah. Yes I saw the movie, too. Pitt was great. But it was not real. Hollywood think. Are we better than the Russians? Or the English? They both lost there. So it is a given the US has to lose. The liberal knowledge of military history is so vast...that it can predict tomorrow's military outcomes.

The country is tired of the war. That is sure. But that does not mean that some last minute events cannot change the course here. The bin Laden raid surprised liberals across the country and world. They never saw it coming. They certainly did not know how to address it. Or what should happen next. Blank face time.

The economic news here is the .1 increase in unemployment. This after the Obama economic administration prediction that major increase in employed was to happen.

But you got know that when they release the data on Friday early in the morning (meaning prior to the news papers opening in the rest of the country). They knew.

The private sector did its job. It hired 56,000. It was government letting off 30,000 with cost cuts that knocked the figure down. I do suspect that it was mostly state and local government doing the lay offs. And today most of those are controlled by REP. But the total increase was only 18,000 about 1/5 the projection.

Can we hear the words...'double dip recession' in the background?
It we were not, we soon will. It is not just the unemployment figures. But foreclosers issues are still in the economy.
And worse that old GNP thingee......while the highest of all Obama's quarters since taking office.....was only 1.5% for this first quarter of 2011.

The stock market has to be taking this in with some reservation. They just saw the Obama administration close the precious metal's OTC market. Raising . If the Gold market, why not other markets? Obama's economic czars have to be coming up with all sorts of strange economic solutions at this time. Which is of course is confidence killing.

Not to mention what the countries debt holders are doing around the world. As the Government pushes to the debt fault deadline in August. Anyone got a 14t laying around to pay it off? If Obama begins to default of the government bonds/notes and loses the countries AAA bond rating...so will go the green back as the worlds currency.

So all in all....not a good day in Washington. The President could have slept thru this morning economic data release and just stayed in bed and had a better day. Heck maybe he did.

Heritage Foundation has Obama missing his employment goals by
7.3m. They just dissected his CEA (Council of Economic Advisor) report on the economy. And left no economic rock un turned.

The CEA report was saying that he made or save 2.7m jobs in the last two quarters with the stimulus bill. The Heritage Foundation comes out and asks why the unemployment rate did not fall likewise.
You cannot have it both ways. But seems they are trying to.

Media picks up these number debates. The economic news is all on numbers and not the real problems faced. Such as small business credit, home lending, and little construction.

Obama has been letting most American caught in foreign countries on legal issues ....face it themselves. They will send some embassy staff to meet with the American after a arrest. Agreed Iran is tough for the White House to deal with. But Italy is not. The White House let Amanda Knox face a very questionable

The Jurors in the Casey Anthony case are beginning to talk in public. With 2/3 of the country not happy with the verdict, they are going to be explaining things for a long time. The Anthony's have had death threats.

So far I have not heard any of the jurors with a good explanation to the not guilty decision. Just that they felt the prosecution did not have enough evidence or could not determine the way Caylee died. This juror discounted the prosecution's claim of clyorsform in the case. Each has seems to have a different reason for the not guilty verdict.

They reset Casey Anthony release from the jail by a few extra days.

I think that we should arrange a date between Dude and Casey Anthony. Casey can fib to him about ....um...everything.

If you cannot pay a 14t debt and lose your AAA bond rating.But if you raise the debt level to say 17t, you are going to be able to pay it and keep your AAA bond rating.

I say...I have not paid a car note in years, my 380z is all paid for since 1995. He says no problem. We got low interest, no first payment till January, and will toss in a wax job on the new shiny Lexus. So I sign the deal. I owe $50K but am driving the new shiny Lexus.

I lose my job. But those monthly payments on the Lexus keep coming.
So I go the dealer and say...I need to give the Lexus back because I cannot afford it. But I still need a car. How about that $300K Lamborgini over there?

Syria is not happy with us. RATZ, I am crying here.

The US Syrian Ambassador went unannounced to the rebelling city of Hama in the north. Here they have been getting 300,000 out in protest. And taking heavy casualities for hitting the streets against Assad. 18 were killed last week.

The US Ambassador decides or was ordered from Washington....this is still unknown...... to make a trip there. Either way it is a good move. The Syrian protestors have had little to cheer them on.

He went to a hospital were the wounded are being treated, met with the protest leaders, and did street walks to talk to the people. All this got the US as being the "international consprirator' label from Syria. Like I said....I am crying here.

The question that need to be asked. Is what was Washington's message to the protest leaders? To continue the good fight against Assad? Or to step down? In the next couple of weeks we will likely know.

If protests in Hama thin or end. Sure as shootin, they were asked to step down. Or if they increase and press again, Washington gave them the green light. So time will tell.

Does that make us international consprirators with protesters? Dang, I am still crying here.

Syria has trouble with the UN at present. This over the Israeli bombed out nuclear reactor. The UN still wants answers to how this building in the middle of the Syria outback became a reactor. Who was aiding Syria to build it? Those sorts of questions.

I always thought this was one of the best bombing jobs in modern time. The Israeli hit the build with just enough HE to take the roof off. So satellite imagery could peer down into the reactor core and the world could see what it was. It was a very well planned mission.

Yep it had to be quiet night for the reactor's janitors. One moment they has a containment roof over head. After some big booms. They are looking at the stars.

The House is ready to pass a $639b DoD budget. This is up from Onama's $610b request by 29b. Dang I like writing billions with the small b....looks better that my check book with those single digits.

Six REP Senator sent Harry Reid a letter. I always like this American polite form of political criticism. Then they release the issue in the critical letter to the media. Why not just corner him in the Senate and do the etu Brute' on him?

Anyways, last week the Senate DEM completed their budget. But have not released it. Harry is holding it incognito, afraid to let the public see it. Likely it has more earmarks for cowboy poetry contests in Las Vegas in it. So the 6 REP Senators wrote him a letter asking for it to be made public. So they can get it to thru committee and to the floor for votes.

My thinking is that Harry is holding it...to see the outcome of the Debt limit battle. If Obama can push the Debt limit up, he can quickly turn around the add more b's to it. So REP are pressing to get it made public before the debt level battle is over with.

Ah the games we play.........

Finally to the debt limit battle. Obama has put the Social Security and Medicare on the table. John Boehner had to fall off the table when these DEM sacred cows came up for slashing. But Obama can also see the hand writing on the wall. With REP in control of the House, they can slash both without him. He needs that DoD budget. Knows that the REP could have tagged the Medicare and Social Security bill to the DoD bill.

So he goes ahead and places them on the table. Again is my thinking.

They are getting close to a debt ceiling limit agreement, I think. They are still playing for political position on somethings. But the August deadline looms up for both of them. Obama does not want to put the REP in a position to close his government before the 2012. He sees what is happening in MN. Were things are not pretty with the state shut down.

On the other hand. Most of the smelly REP would love to close his government down before the 2012. Just so they have a political attack add...that says...."the failed Obama Government".

They may save that for next year.....because with this annual budget bill passing....we get to do most of this again next summer.

You have REP/Tea party controlled government from top to bottom.
That is even better than the DEM controlled Federal government after the 2008.

What they think in Hawii is a world different of what the think in Florida and Vice Versa. The same with what they do. But big deal.
Instead of being vanilla ice cream, the country is rocky road.
But it functions better than another large country in the world.
Though China today is making giant leaps there.

We fought a civil war to keep this country one. Since then, millions of men and woman have taken a oath to defend it. There is the real reason that the country is still united and here today.

Today, we use our politics debate the major issues of the day. Allowing the majority place the man or woman into office that best can resolve those issues. That is friendly debate and argument.

Dude...Ronnie Reagon sent one weapon to the Freedom Fighters of Afghanistan. MANPADs..also called Stingers...the missiles that knocked Russian helo and aircraft down and took control of the air from the Russian.

He also sent them money to buy used Russian weapons and munitions on the black market. That is why you don't see any American made weapons in the videos of the Russian/Afhgan war.

If I remember correctly its was 612 Stingers that he sent them. Most were used in the conflict.

Ronnie Reagon used SDI......to box Russia into a diplomatic resolution of the Cold War nuclear arms race. SDI to look viabale, had to have some expendentures related. So yes he increased DoD spending. And he had a Russian army sitting in Europe. He need new
conventional weapons (post Vet Nam) to take that on.

Today the research on SDI.....has become the defensive missiles that you see being deployed in Europe, Tiawan, and Persian Gulf region.

The only place I ever got into a bar room fight was Ohio. It was when I cracked the following joke.

The local Buckeyes did not like my humor. It seems.

The local police officer that responded was wearing a gun. I felt a need for self protection as I was surrounded by several Buckeyes.
