A Day On The Water
I groaned when the phone rang to tell me that we’re going to sea. I went to bed too late and needed much more sleep. I barely had my coffee before the car arrived and I fell asleep on the backseat long before we overtook the other two towing the boat.
We managed to slip the boat and clear the breakwater before the sun came out. It was foolish to go out and I said so. The wind came up again and the sea was choppy. The water looked like pea soup and I knew were wasting our time. After some deliberation we decided where to go. As it happened we changed our position three times but the wind just got stronger and the sea choppier.
From a financial viewpoint the day was a disaster. I was lucky enough to land the first one but it was two fishes in one; my first and my last. When we left we had fourteen fish between us and we need at least sixty to seventy decent sized fish just to break even on the expenses.
But the day was not wasted. When six middle-aged men who went to school together; three of them married to the sisters of three other, another who was married to my sister and another whose sister has been sweet on me since childhood, there never is a dull moment. We’re brothers, not friends.
Only one of us did not have something going with a sister of one of the others at some stage and the only reason for that is because he’s gay. And if anybody calls him a queer, any one of us will ‘donder’ him personally. Not that he’ll need our help. He’s very handy with his fists. He’s a great guy… and I can trust him with my sister.
The shit that comes out on that boat when the fish won’t play hooky with us is unreal. If the language and the topics were fit for female company, just one outing would have supplied material for five blogs. We can say anything to each other and everybody will laugh. And these guys are great pillow talkers; I think that the womenfolk know exactly what is being said about them.
But eventually the sandwiches and juice ran out and we decided to call it a day two hours before the time. On our way back we did our neighborly duty by supporting a pub that opened recently which gave us an opportunity to play matches to see who must clean the boat today.

We have been in trouble once. We wanted to play pool without the women and pretended to go fishing with the rods without the boat. We played pool and afterwards bought fish at the fishery.
We were all together with the womenfolk that night braaiing the fish when another friend who was not in on the plot remarked that we could not have caught that fish with our rods from the side because it was deep-sea fish. And the women heard him.
He was not very popular for a while.
They tried to pin it in me because I only caught one fish but I managed to get out of that and when we played matches I was the first one out of it as well. Been my lucky day.
Not that it would have mattered, we had so little action that the boat was still fairly clean. An easy job today.
Now get some decent sleep tonight for yourself

Yes, it is wonderful and something I missed the few weeks while being with my ex GF. She did not try to prevent me from going fishing but I just never got around to it.
I had a bad experience on the Ocean and bad weather,. I think I will for now on stay on dry ground.

Once the wives realized what was going on, those northern trips, became memories,
I took a little nap and I feel better. I'll have to go to bed early tonight. I'm as tired as a dog. Now for a shower.
I saw her the other day and she asked about you people. I told her to come and look for herself and she said she had been thinking about coming back. So who knows, we may just see her again one of these days. the way I know her she's going to sneak around here anonymously until somebody recognizes her.
Shower...bed...and turn off ur phone to avoid anymore calls...

Actually, everything I did tonight could have waited for tomorrow but I think I just don't want to go to bed.
No, we like women around us. If only they could understand that there are times that we need to be on our own. Like sometimes we want to play pool and make a lot of noise and not having to hold back to let the women win sometimes.

I slept like a log. I cannot even remember my head hitting the pillow. And you still did not answer my question. Exactly when did you return? Did you have to wait a week again before you could post?
Yes, I did but the sun got hold of my face again. A hat cannot protect your face on the water. The sun gets you from below.
I personally prefer to have himself with me as well when meeting friends, but each to their own. Glad to hear you had a good time.
We've been doing this for years but not as often as last year. All of us are retired now and we have the time.
It was only the while I was with Yorkie that I did not bother to go.
And you can believe me, I heard all about that on the water yesterday and last week. They had a field day with me. I won't even repeat what was said and she had nothing to do with it because she works in the day.
Hmm, we also went to town a bit afterwards when we supported our local pub.
Next time I'll invite my sister and one or two of my cousins to join us there. Then we can call it a family event as well.
