Who can say?

Who can say. that the color
Green is not smiling behind a
World unseen?

Who could be responsible for burning
The last page of poetry so that every
Tear is denied?

Will a dying earth ever be granted
A new breath in the eternal realms?

Will the lion never again receive
The praise of his power?

What would life be if no one knew
About it?

If there were no eyes to behold the
Horse in the beauty of his stride
Could we say that all that can be
Called beauty vanishes into the
Eternal night?

What are emotions, minds, and desires
If life is nothing more than mathematical
Chance..a cosmic trick of the 'god's..?

Who can say?

An inquiring mind might consider such
Things

Perhaps a fool is eating hell for
Breakfast

Someone has to die..or so they say

But some one must live to tell the
Tale

I'll be quiet now and go my way

I'm painting a picture of a
Mountain and I feel great joy
In doing such a thing

Tommorrow, I might bring you
Roses

But tonight, I ponder many things

What will we do when the clock
Strikes twelve?

Who cay say?

Day By Night and Night By Day

Why did you make the setting sun
That would color the sky so vast
All orange and red and pink so spun
Such imagery of an eternity last

Though many days and winter grays
Did you fade away without a trace
Tonight you paint the sky with rays
Bending through a prism of space

Burns a cauldron full of gaseous fire
Clouds steam away as they slowly race
Up and away from a burning pyre
Whisked away by enduring grace

Sitting here along a rocky shore
I bid farewell to see such fading glory
Thoughts to beg my mind implore
Such do heaven’s lights tell a story

Soon darkness washes black this muslin
Spreading emptiness across the sky
Until the stars prick holes by the dozen
Such as only my dreams can imply

And rest I must as sleep prevails
Awaits the coming of celestial dawn
And another day of light travails
And another night of darkness gone

Older women

Older women cannot be fooled but
Their hearts can be broken
Tread lightly my friend on souls
refined with fire
Speak softly to ears pierced
With the sound of good bye's
Never look an older woman
To intently in the eyes lest
You see a thousand tears
Of her lost loves
Instead, cup her cheek
In hand and give her
The kiss of hope
She may whisper to
You the secret..
Of the stars

One Day

One day I'll put my poems in proper order -
Until then, you must now bear with me.
Making sense of my life's general disorder
And to write on until I become free.
The stories that I paint with my words were
At one time true - as you will come to see.
Bit by bit, by means of each digression -
Compose the whole (in full) my life's confession.

The World these days is not in proper shape -
The basic fact there are too many people.
Too many souls for destiny to rape
As we gather like timid mice beneath the steeple.
The wine is spill'd from life's fermenting grape
To blast the Godhead with this heady tipple
Which lays us to ruin, and from whence -
We call this our life's experience.

And these experiences I now gather -
Each is a little vignette of its own.
Read them all (or none) if you'd rather -
It's something that I never will disown.
I'm proud of my verse - I am the father
Of all I write and gather like a gown
About me as a blanket - woven stars
Poetry's not a prison - rhymes not bars.

the summer job (in paradise)

twas a time of fresh worn innocence
eighteen years of age
and the writ of my experience
fell short upon the page
ragged as a student
who had never eaten warm
come in she said and welcome
to the ladies dorm

hardly out of smallburg
green as an apple tree
two dinner plated startled eyes
and jeans without a knee
"you look like a hardy boy"
she told me without scorn
come in she said and welcome
to the ladies dorm

my recollection hazy
of how I slept that night
unable to articulate
my thought with my delight
as beauty slept in rapture
behind oaken doors forlorn
come in she said and welcome
to the ladies dorm

intoxicating creatures
robbed me of my youth
I never fought so lightly
(to tell you the truth)
they made a man of me
strengthening my form
come in she said and welcome
to the ladies dorm

breakfast at the table
my eyes fixed to my spoon
with a dozen or so sirens
laughing at my swoon
and the scent of what I felt heaven was
seemed to be the norm
come in she said and welcome
to the ladies dorm

twenty-nine years later
wife and babies too
I chanced on to return there
my memories to renew
said the angel of uncertainty
three decades on her form
come in she said and welcome..
to the ladies dorm

gravitational pull

the boat is idle
I'm drinking some tea
I look to the shoreline
thoughts come to me

experimental daydreams
as oft I'm inclined
so loved by the genius
we walk behind

Einstein, I think
imagined a man
struck by twin lightnings
as only he can

equidistant in impact
he stood there upright
simultaneously struck
to his left and his right

watching all this
and moving indeed
a girl on a train
blurs by at great speed

her train was the distance
between night and day
acceleration is gravity
as Albert would say

but the girl in the carriage
saw the bolt to her right
hit a fraction before
the other one's flight

relatively speaking
he'd stumbled on truth
and I thought of the tracks
that led to my youth

and a man struck hard
by a bolt from the blue
that town was me..
and that woman was you

Call of the fire

Let me be me so I
Can love all of you
I am light and easy
And so are my finger
Tips upon your face
Don't cage me with the
Sentiments of lesser
Mortals
Taste the electric fire that
My faith has lit within your
Soul
Come close, but not to close
For lion spirits consume weaker
Hearts
Tread lightly and I shall come to
You on a dry and desolate plain
I shall satisfy your passion in the
Wild of the night.

The splash of raindrops

Walking in woodland
Beneath wet trees
A green summer-lace
Of entwined branches,
Leaves shrouded
In a splatter
Of raindrops
Collapsing
From leaf too life,
Strong vines stretch
For sunlight’s glare,
While footsteps crush
Wet grass
And delicate blossoms
Of wildflowers,
Enchanted
By the scent
Of vegetation
In the quiet
Stillness
After rain.

About this poem:
Looking out through my window at the rain, I pondered what it would be like to walk through woodland, and came up with this poem.

Love’s Scornful Eyes

Last week
At your concert
I was your biggest fan
But you sang to someone else,
And how I wish it had been me
Clenched in that passionate kiss
When you proclaimed undying love
And kissed your girlfriend’s lips,
Could you not see me in that sea
Of waving arms,
Could you not see my smile
Radiating brighter
Than those torches held aloft,
I was drunk
On the sound of your voice
Swaying to the rhythmical music,
I sang my heart-out hoping
You would hear my love’s song
And waited for those fleeting glances
That never came in my direction,
But no longer will your posters
Adorn my bedroom walls,
When all that remains
Is the smouldering stench
This radiant flame extinguished,
And these scornful eyes
That piercing like daggers
My love’s rival.
