Whispers on the Wind

I saw you,
Walking in the rain
Shrunken
Wrinkle and worn,
Hardly recognized your face
In that struggle to escape

Your distress
That cancerous disease,
I remember you waved
With the withering arm
Of your pale overcoat
Of organic flesh,

You were my brother,
My sister, my father, my mother,
A fierce courageous warrior
Who battled for life
For a thousand days,
But heroes

Seldom return
From war
Just ghost of friends
Family loved-ones
We remember,
With each passing year.

Invisible People

In towns
And cities streets
On concrete slabs
And tarmac roads
They walk for hours
In worn-out boots
And shoes,
For scraps
And crumbs
A thousand hands
Reach-out
Beyond
Invisible lives,
And search
For solace
Inside a bottle
Or a can of beer,

Isolation (a sonnet)

Now touching on this isolation writing
I touch it now I am the daylight fighting.

This winter's day of clouds grey overcast
To wait a week or two just to outlast.

I've found something that I could not say
Favor romance on a dismal day.

Something in my heart becomes uncertain
I wish that I could be a better person.

I think of my soul and its incarnations
I think of drugs debasing kids and nations.

I think about my lost Arcadian dream -
My consciousness just currents down a stream.

I wish that I could find my better half
In this waiting game that is my life.

ordinary love

I see you everyday
its not important you see me
I'm the the man who moors his boat
near your house upon the quay

your son is older than me
learning issues, t'would appear
he follows you like gravity
like a worry follows fear

you never appear angry
in the face of nature's mirth
everyday he walks beside you
every day a brand new shirt

"who looks after you?" I think
as the ocean soaks the sands
you hold your son so tightly
an umbilical cord of hands

you always seem to have a smile
as you fumble for your key
I'm humbled by your kindness
you must be north of sixty - three

I worry for your future
but there's steel around your home
a dignity past this modern place
a swan a'swim in chrome

Into the Chrysalis

In this soft woven skein; - a chrysalis,
Nests the close-swaddled fabric of her young;-
As life grows ripe with Nature's catalyst,
In a soft downy womb - that's silken-spun;-
Now with the dew of morn is crystal kiss'd,
The young worms glow, as first rays from the Sun,
Bathes each swelling grub in morning light;-
Caterpillar gold, from the depths of night.

the pub on poet's corner

I was mending a hull
'neath the crying gull
when the call
came down the line
my dad had gone
his time had come
and a world of hurt
was mine

left my girl
to anger swirl
told her "needed space"
but I was dust
not even lust
could the hurtin'
I replace

time dragged on
when I was gone
my love
I failed to warn her
about the rendezvous
I shared with you
in a pub
on poet's corner

"I'm the ghost
of every girl you've loved"
your spectre
said to me
I'll haunt your mind
till you go blind
and then
I'll let you be

"and the bird
that nested
in the eve
fed its young
in Byron's sleeve
in the pub
on poet's corner"

so every night
my daily fight
is a scramble
to emerge
strong and well
from the bowels of hell
where dark
and madness merge

where music
from the walls
is bled
by DJ Jazzy
and a girl called Red

"and the bird
that nested in the eve
told me that
I'd never leave
the pub
on poet's corner"

THE POEM AND THE SYMPHONY

Time gleans "the sound" from you..
from a distant age gone by.

Body, Neck and Bridge...
Strings, Frets and Keys,
aggregates of this guitarra...

A matrix of wood and bone,
constructs of this Soul.

Embodied in the ink of his pen...
the writer personified -
encrypted in the words,
his art...his life -
each word and rambling
phrase, an incarnation
of the Nous.....truly, an unfettered reflection.

So too, the musician speaks through the sound
of each note...
each note, each phrase,
as if a paragragh...
reflecting sentience and imagination.

Together - they complete the poem
and the symphony...

Separate - they are two strangers
born of a common Mother.

The resonant embrace pierces the
Heart - fingers dancing into a firestorm ....
dissonance long removed, they chase away the distance -
forgetting that some are far removed from this joyful mood.

Mirroring one another, the two strangers renew their bond,
reflecting familiar and a courteous tones, in writ and song -
as thoughts surely become sound,
and all the while, are so evenly pronounced...
plucked strings reverberate through the darkness,
minor and major scales collide...
awakening the dead to life,

....to the poem within the symphony.

As a man thinks

High on life..
Why?
Oh, I don't know
Maybe I've set my
Mind and heart on
The alter of hope
Someone said, "Are
You kidding."
The world has gone
On the way it always
Has
The mountains have
Never moved
The rivers still run
To the ocean
The cow still chews
The cud as it ever
Has
And humanity.. still
Seeks to recind the
Curse of Adam
So what makes me
Such a happy
Camper
Well, umm..
Guess
Upon some timeless
Truth that, well
I still believe in
The stars of
Every forgotten
Hope
I still believe that
Joy of heart, soul,
And spirit is the
Most cherished
Prize
I still believe that
A constructive mind
That seeks the betterment
Of us all is the key
To every lovely thing
And that we may possibility
Weary the stars of our dreams
If we fall short of of
Divine providence that with
Outstretched arms calls
Us in still small voices
That we..
Only we..
Can take up the
Mantel of the
Dreams of God
Or, languish in
A sphere that will
Never rise beyond
The level of
Our own
Minds
Surely the sun
Will rise, and the
Moon will give
It's sleepy light
Yet all the power
Within us shall
Be weighed in
The scales of Every
Word we speak.

Painted love or life?

When love is missing,
Life has no meaning,
Beauty never last for long,
But Happiness can keep you strong.

Its not the clothes you wear,
Or the friends you have there,
Wealth and misery are a pair,
Beware your nakedness they share!

A kiss from demons brings unforseen dangers,
Your flesh rotting with twisted monsters,
When human forsakes their natural orders,
Wickedness will bring you untold horrors!

An ounce of gold is all it takes,
To buy your freedom and sell,
The price paid will take it's toll,
In hades your resting place is built.

Enigma

Embedded image from another site

Cloaked in a mystery
A fascinating paradox
Reflections unorthodox
Spoken like a riddle
Meeting in the middle
Departing from the norm
Like an abstract art form
Softly hushed rarity
A welcoming oddity
Possessing genteel quality
Of an interesting anomaly
A most unusual quandary
Contemplating existence
Indefinitely like an eon
Acceptable and logical
As the “theory of relativity”
Fires of scientific creativity
Ordered and chronological
Propositions not yet known
From a Prince upon a throne
Investigated it may prove
Well founded and true
Conclusively accrued
Immeasurable in depth
Expansive in breadth
Without further adieu
Bring me secrets true
Enigma, you are mystery
Open up and teach me
