Cold Season of Thanks

The days draw nearer in shadows,
shafts of sunlight slowly fade away,
coldness creeps in like the gallows,
stillness of sound, no children at play,

Skies with blurry clouds of gray,
biting winds with the chill factor,
damp and cold in bones find there way,
sniffles and grunts not much laughter,

Eyes sting and gently weep,
frost shows its morning dew,
trickling flakes of snow will grow deep,
not many venture out just a few,

Crinkled skin and dry lips,
life is for all to keep living,
taking hot drinks with gentle sips,
for many around it is now Thanksgiving.

A Caroling Acrostic

"Carol of the Bells", from faraway Ukraine
"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", we hear again, and again
"Rocking Carol", though familiar, is an old Czech tune
"I Heard the Bells”, we all enjoy, and cannot be heard too soon

"Silent Night", Holy Night, from Austria to thee
"Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum", about the Christmas tree
"Mary's Boy Child", in the charts, year on year, on year
"Angels We Have Heard on High", always brings a tear

"See, Amid the Winter's Snow", and we end right here

About this poem:
This 'surprisingly' just won a contest for a 'Christmas' acrostic. I think it was the idea of using the carols rather than the actual quality of the poem, that and the fact that there were only 19 entries. But what the hell... a win is a win :)

Things That Happened In 2014

I passed out unconscious at the library and hit my head
Cause I worked 300 days at a factory I dread
Saw the Twins play baseball
Spent a lot of time window shopping at the Kennedy Mall
Bought a 2000 Cavalier paid in cash
Had a friend mad at me for selling the other I thought was trash
Juggled on the Badger Camp Telethon
Couldn't do Jump Around and Gangster's Paradise I had my heart set on
So I did Arthur's Theme and Rubberband Man
Felt like I was juggling for the man
Celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas at my Mom's
Felt fearful while I waited for the verbal bombs
Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde was my favorite song
Got tired of all the Ferguson crap
Can't we all just get along?
Made some food, ate a lot of fast food from the Walmart Mall
My last creation was a cheese ball

santa clause

I saw santa clause
It was only one time
he was deep in the woods
try to get the deer in a line

I said whats the matter
He said nothing at all
He had lots of toys
a very big haul

I asked could I help
as that's how I am
He gave me a smile so grand as the land
and then he gave a wave of his hand

I knew I had stumbled
on a very special man
so I wanted to be
part of his plan

So we worked together
to gather the deer
and when we were done
He said have a merry new year

I feel I was blessed
and really was touched
that a man so old
could do so much

I will always respect him
and keep his spirit in heart
where it always should be
for all from the start

forsaken

deep past the arrival of eve's night
long after the throng of the city's holiday paraders have gone
he is left far from the crowd, hopelessness his only companion
the avenues mostly still, mostly silent
the homeless panhandler remains in an alley
set against a structure where it's exhaust vents release warmth from below
he is posed for yet another long night's passing
the only place available to him where a freezing death may not find him
sleep may or may not come for him
half a bottle of wine might offer some comfort, for a short while anyway
as he sips his salvation, he journeys in mind
on a road traveled often, destination never to be found
where his future may lead him, he knows not
it seems that he has always merely tried to last into the following day
with a grimace he muses of tomorrow
when the sun rises next, it will be christmas day
not the best of days for him
truth be told, it could be only the worst
for he knows very well what this will mean
that his usual routine of finding nourishment will not exist
there will be no bakeries tossing out old bread
no eateries filling trash dumpsters with food deemed unfit for customers
only a mere fragment of passers-by from whom to solicit
but most folks crossing his path on this day will be just like him
with little to offer, not even a smile
snapping out from his speculation, he hunkers down upon the grate
trying to escape the bitter cold winds that seem to blow through him
he has found something to concentrate on
this is all that he has
so, we should all take this little tale to bed with us tonight
and recall it tomorrow as we enjoy our great feasts
in the warm comfort of home, with family and friends
for under the fate of circumstance
…every man could be a homeless man

Happy Valentine Day--2012

As I sit in my house before bed
I think of winter that coming on
and how much the cold weather really
I dread
And as I sit back and sip
my tea
while I watch alittle TV
Iam looking farward to weather
and spring ahead
And while I crawl up in my bed tonight
and roll over to turn out the lights
I think of a mate
and how nice it would be
to be ask out on a date
Vatentine Day is coming soon
and oh wouldnt it be nice
to receive roses in full bloom
so as I pull the cover up just right
and close my eyes really tight
I pray
and maybe someday
As I sit in my house
I may get married and have a spouse
And as I fall asleep and dream
Iam sure all you single know what mean
Happy Valentine Day to you
and dont give up because
sometimes dreams do come true
this is just some of my thoughts
out loud Iv said
As I sit in my house before bed

Midnight Chimes

Shadows filter out the moon
An eerie wind does blow
Soon the clock chimes midnight
To start the evening’s show
Out of the darkness spirits creep
Ghouls and witches cackle
Round the cauldron chants arise
Sparks from the fire crackle
Spells concocted through magical brew
Strongest on Halloween night
So venture out if you dare
But be prepared for deathly fright

Just wonderful it is a new year 22001122 HA!

"What” can be said in New Year rhymes?
That's not been said so many times?
The New Year’s come, the old years gone,
we know we dream, we dream we know.

Some rise up laughing with the light,

Other’s lie down weeping with the night,
He hugs the world until it stings,
She curse it then and sigh for wings.
He or She will live, love, laugh, then wed,
then 2011 is soon dead.
They laugh, they weep, they hope, they fear,
Another year is here...

The Warmth of Christmas!

The Warmth of Christmas!

Softly falling snow, sleigh bells ringing in the air

Whiteness, everywhere, covering up the fields, treetops tipped with snow

Footsteps disappear, Christmas time is near

Deer prancing on the trail, rabbits hopping in the bush

Squirrels chattering everywhere, Christmas in the air

Fireplaces bright, red glowing embers quite a sight

Christmas decorations on the tree, presents there for you and me!

Mistletoe hung with care, trapping lovers under there

Someone will receive a diamond ring

All the people, Christmas carols sing

Midnight snacks upon one's plate

A drink of eggnog, oh so great!

Christmas comes but once a year

Oh, my love I’m glad you’re here

Merry Christmas to you & everyone!
