summertime stories and past glories

The summer sky a darker shade of blue
vivid colors almost a world brand new
the smell off blossoms looming promise
of excitement filled the air
close your eye's and you are there
music coming from all around
an upbeat tempo a happy sound
children laughing just down the street
laying in the shade to escape the heat
lazy days spent lounging in the lawn counting
lady bugs and picking flowers
the beautiful afternoon thunder showers
the smell of the rain on the hot pavement
makes me think about when I was a kid
about my summer breaks and all the crazy things
we did
before they should the leaves start to fall
as summer whispers it's last call

About this poem:
It seems the seasons have been going by so fast for me lately, another summer wrapped up in a hot pink bow *lol*. This kind of poetry is usually not my style I seem to like my deep and thought provoking angsty stuff better, but that's just me I guess.

Children of the Not Very Merry

Christmas comes on jingle-bell feet
tinkling all over my morning paper;
but middle-class wolves howl
at my door, lurking and raping my mood.

In a outraged of head-shake denial
and of wondering;
why do I have to think of that now?

When, I've got to get to Big Lots
finish all my x-mas shopping
and arrange a babysitter
for the party tonight.

When, I've got cabin fever
and a howl rising in me!

When, I want to be pretty arm candy
and hold mistletoe kissing contests,
don't burn me now Santa.

The list goes on and on....

until I finally realize;
I need to be more grateful
for my haves, instead of pissed off
about what I haven't got.

If greed is need, then I'm
in pretty sorry shape no
matter the seasons reasons.

Rock-a-by, child of God, rock-a-by.

Do you care?

Thanksgiving Turkeys Unite!

Thanksgiving Turkeys Unite!

Join the Turkey Union

Gobble up! It’s time to flap your feathers

Bang your Turkey drums and spice up your holiday dressing

Your entitled to a last Turkey dance before they put you in the oven of no return!

Grab a strikers sign and pace up and down in front of
Your Grocers

Donate your feathers to a good cause

Scratch your feet upon the dirt and declare war on the Indians, after all they introduced you to the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock and look what they did to you

They pulled out all of your beautiful feathers and made a Turkey feast out of you!

And called it Thanksgiving

Yea, Thanksgiving for them, but how about us?

They ate my wife a beautiful young turkey hen and the children growing up, are on next years menu!

How shameful, humans over stuffed with turkey!
Don’t they ever get enough!

We’re peace loving Turkeys

We never put an apple in their mouths and cooked them over a spit

Oh! Those cannibals!

The delicious aroma of the cooking Turkey is interlacing deliciously all through the house!

Don’t forget the Cranbury sauce and the delicious mashed potatoes with the Turkey gravy and apple pie for desert.

And don’t forget to sign-up for your Turkey Union Card

They need your support!

Turkeys Unite!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Your Thanksgiving Poet

Sleigh Bells

Sleigh bells tinkling in the wind
thunder of the reindeer's hooves
as they climb up high into the sky
it's Christmas eve and all is quiet

Colourful fairy lights are glinting
pale starlight pointing out the way
snow sparkling like diamond flakes
trees lit up and dressed with baubles

Such a wondrous hush blankets all sound
as if the world is paused on bated breath
waiting for the birth of that special child
for this is the true meaning of this night

Not presents, or stuffing oneself with food
and drinking a fair few tots of this and that
if you believe or not, take time to remember
this day is not about every day pleasures

Worship the true spirit of Christmas
it will enrich you in your daily strife
return if you can to the wonder of a child
as down the stairs they run and stop short

Their eyes on beanstalks as they espy
presents piled up high under the tree
so this Christmas pause and reflect
and remember the real purpose of this day

The Very First Christmas ( Sorta )

A brilliant star lit up the night
above the sleeping town.
The drunken Romans at the Inn
had finally settled down.
The tax collectors bags of gold
were stashed and hid away.
The little town of Bethlehem
in peaceful silence lay.

A weary traveller and his wife,
delayed along the way,
Stopped at the Inn, with every hope,
to find a place to stay.
His wife was nine months pregnant,
and was due this very night,
But there was no room for them within,
to help them in their plight.

The landlord was a kindly man,
he'd help if he were able,
But he couldn't offer shelter,
other than his humble stable.
The grateful couple made a bed
upon the golden hay
And the baby Jesus Christ was born
that eve on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas Daddy

If I could hold your hand just one more time
If I could see your face, so dear,
I would tell you Merry Christmas Daddy
'Cause Christmas time is here
I would have you put the lights up
(That is something only Daddy's do)
And put the angel on top of the tree
Then, Daddy, your job is through
Sit yourself down now and relax
While we decorate the tree
And off and on throughout the night
Maybe I'll sit upon your knee
The fire is going, don't worry Daddy
We promise not to let it get too high
Snow is coming, it'll be a white Christmas
Just take a look at that cloudy sky
Here's a plate for you Daddy
And ,oh, the aroma it brings
It's your favourite, mincemeat tarts
And they were made fit for a king
But most of all Daddy, as I kneel by your side
I would tell you how very much I love you
And how you fill my heart with pride.

Just One More Time

There once was this little girl who wanted only to have a perfect Christmas. Her name was Mary and she was 11 years old. Her dad came into the room one early one morning and announced today was the day to go and get the Christmas tree. She went with her dad to pick out the tree on the farm. They looked at a bunch of them before they found the perfect tree. They carried the tre and secured it to the top of the car. Her dad carried the tree when they got home into the front room to set it up. Everyone came together to decorate the tree. This was an all day event. They sang Christmas carols as the tree was being decorated.
The next day Mary went with her mom shopping for Christmas presents. They went in store after store until their arms were so full they could not carry anymore. After shopping they ended up at the ice cream shop getting their traditional cones. They would sit there and talk about what else they had to do to get ready for the holidays. Mary was so excited as she was listening to her mom tell her what still needed to be done. Her mom was letting her help with the planning for the Christmas party. They hurried on home to wrap all that they Had bought to put them under the tree. Then they made popcorn and watched It’s A Wonderful Life. They were doing funny voices and copying the lines. After the movie we all went to bed tomorrow was another busy day.

Taking down the Christmas Tree

I took down the outside ligts
I put the manger scene away
I took the Christmas cartoons off my fridge
I put away my collection of Christmas Coke cans
I put my angels and Christmas towels away
I took the garland off the tree
I took the ornaments off the tree
I accidentally broke one that was about 50 years old
I dropped one but the craft string protected the ornament
I took off the star
I took off the lights
I dismantled the artificial tree
I had my Christmas decorations up for 50 days
I miss them, but it was time
I had to get read for the superbowl

About this poem:
I normally put my Christmas decorations away the first Saturday after the New Year. I will not be decorating again until September 15 when I celebrate Halloween again. There are many who keep theirs up till after the super bowl, some leave them up a lot longer. They are usually the same ones who have rotten pumpkins on their porch in December.

Happy New Year

Where has the year gone
2011 will be over soon
oh lets remember it with a tune
Ill sit in my old blue chair
just thinking about
my life how it changed
in this passed year
as I watch the deer out
my frosty window
down my face runs
a lonly tear
as I partly smile
about the new coming year
oh lets remeber it with a tune
as I turn my radio on
and tap my foot
and twist my hair
thats all curly and blonde
yes Iam just thinking of
the passed year
how happy my family is
and God was so good
to us all
oh but soon it will be
spring and ,summer , and
again fall
other year will end again
as I say with a grin
Happy New Year to you
hurry,,,its almost through
