RE: Panhandling every day

I’m all for helping people out- however, we just can’t know where the cash is going, when we help out in that way. BTW, I don’t know how it is in other states, but in Oregon, it is now illegal to openly panhandle. Get this, too— it is now illegal ( and the fine is quite steep) to STOP your car to hand a donation out. Yes, it sure is. The deciding factor is safety. Too many accidents were caused by this, and it is considered to be impeding traffic, AND, the person donating becomes partner (aiding and abetting) in criminal activity. A side comment, and I’ve been guilty of this...do you know stopping to let a car enter the road you are on is a misdeameanor? Yes, and the police will turn on lights and ticket— it is considered hazardous. Seems ironic that you can be fined for being courteous...wildlife, too, although I disagree with this. I think we need to be careful with nature.

I’ve already said my piece regarding masks. I DO believe this, for what it’s worth: the symbolic gesture (of wearing one) is somewhat better than nothing, and not necessarily because of actual “prevention”. It’s a constant, ‘in-your-face’ reminder to take precautions. Therefore, it becomes helpful... sort of like a closed gate reminds you that the yard belongs to another, ie, social distancing. But seriously, I agree with the posters who say the mask does any “actual” work, with the exception of triggering the “fight or flight” response. Taking the mask off, putting it back on, breathing in old air, all diminish or cancel out any utility.

I hear you...but gee, I’d like the opportunity to test it out, anyway. I believe that happy wealthy people were probably happy, anyway— before the wealth. I think how you “get there”, matters, too. Born into it doesn’t give you something to bounce it against...being poor and then working your way up and out gives a different perspective. I started out ( in life) just above poverty, had many lean ‘salad’ days, worked my way through college, and probably settled somewhere between lower- middle to just above, middle class. I’LL TAKE IT!

Not meaning to generalize— people frequently have a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” outlook. Consider this: a goose quill and berry juice “work” for writing; kerosene lamps “work” for lighting, etc...

It depends. There are actually men’s nursing uniforms of short pants and short sleeves. Many Australian businessmen wear very good looking “ short suits” to work, especially during the hottest season. You don’t see it much in U.S., or at least not in the PNW...

It can seem like a “catch 22”— if you stop to think a moment, the other person thinks they’ve one- upped you, frequently saying “what’s the matter, cat got your tongue..” or the like. Can’t win.. lately in Life, I think before I speak. Better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it...

S’alright, love...those 70’s shows kind of melted into each other—-“The Brady Bunch” and “The Partridge Family” for instance. Hey, I want to ask you a question about two very similar movies—“The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”, and “To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar”—- a bartender friend once told me that “To Wong Foo...” stole the idea from “Priscilla” (Australian made) but didn’t say whether there was a copyright or brand infringement, etc...do you happen to know?

Although I watched it, and found it interesting, I have a confession: I cannot STAND Richard Thomas. Either in or out of character. Just something about him rubs the wrong way. I saw him on a talk show after the series ended— he came across as arrogant/condescending. The way he talks even grinds on my nerves. I’d sooner hear a witch drag her fingernails across a blackboard. Dang I can’t stand John-Boy. What a p.o.s. Ok, I’m done

Been there— saw the gunfight, drank beer out of a tin cup, bought a white porcelain bolo tie ( steer skull) wrapped in rattlesnake skin. It was a great vacation. Also went up to Virginia City. One really great time for about a week..
