RE: The Danger in Dating a Control Freak

I agree with this article. Everything is true! I was in a relationship with a control freak. He didn't want me with blond hair. He told me he dislike it but later on he told me that if I ever was to go blond that he would leave me.

He controlled everything, from the way I dressed to what I would do during the day. At first I did protest, keeping my Independence but after a while so I didn't get to hear him argue I would just go along.

I was in that relationship for 5 months and those were the worst 5 months of my life. When we broke up I was depressed, overweight, horrible self esteem issues...you name it, I had it! Now almost a year has gone by I am so much happy. I can't even believe that I actually allowed to be in that relationship.

We just have to be very careful. Read the signs because their are sings! Whoever said that if there wasn't pain it wasn't love was WRONG!!! Love should not be build around pain, who get's more, who dominates who...We just have to accept it and move on. It's better to be alone and get out of a bad relationship than stay and suffer a great deal of pain and problems. TRUST ME :)Is not the end of the world, we shouldn't settle for any less than what we deserve.

RE: The Danger in Dating a Control Freak

Yes, everything in this article is true. I dated control freaks & after the relationship was over, I was left to feel the ruin of it was all my fault, cos the guy had been so denegrating & demeaning to me during the relationship. I thought I was somehow a 'defective' person.
One day, I suddenly realized that the things these men had complained about so much had all been TRIVIAL & had nothing at all to do with having any kind of relationship, let alone a healthy one. Now, at the very first sign of game-playing, domination or manipulation, I hit the highway -- FAST!
Other signs of a control freak are:#1 SELF-ABUSE with drugs, smoking, alcohol,etc. If they abuse themselves, their own possessions or yours, they will just as readily abuse you either physically, mentally & emotionally.
#2 ANGER is another sign of a controller. He knows that if he angers at you, you will feel you have displeased him & be afraid of losing him. Please, Ladies, do NOT be afraid to lose these guys! The more you allow yourselves to be with a man like that, the more worthless you will feel about yourself! Trust me, I've learned it IS better to be alone than to be treated & talked to worse than a dog.
Take those dateless weekends & use them to do something to improve yourself, such as reading a self-esteem or self-assertion book; trying out a new hair-do; etc., anything to make you feel better about yourself, then you won't feel the need to 'settle' for these freaks. Their ego is NOT your problem. The only person that can build their self-esteem is them. And, the only person that can build your self esteem is YOU! It takes real guts to see yourself as you really are & then try to 'fix' it instead of blaming ones own low self-esteem on another person & making them constantly 'pay' to make their own self feel better. Which never works anyway.
Discover all the good within yourselves & stop focusing on what you think is 'wrong' with you, then, you will begin to love yourself for exactly who you are -- the good AND the 'bad.'
Everyone is worthy of love but one can not love another any more than they love themselves.

RE: Do I Need a Webcam?

OOPS!

I forgot to mention that there are even Cameras that have BI-DIRECTIONAL (2 Two Way) Audio, like an intercom - with a built-in microphone and speakers, so that you can listen in and speak back, too!

Please allow for extra costs.
The same will be true for WIRELESS IP-Cameras (W-LAN IP-Cam), however wireless these are, you will still need a wire - even though it is only for the power!
(Unless you want to be changing batteries all the time.)

I myself prefer the IP-Cam option with PoE (Power over Ethernet) supplied via the power supply of the switch.

Please note:
============

If the IP-Cam does not have PoE, it will need an adapter to split the data signal from the power line.

If you are building up a larger setup you could run 4 such PoE switches with 4 - 8 PoE ports on 10/100Mbps and link them to a Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mbps) switch to be able to run all cameras full speed, and leave some space for later.

Calculations:
=============

Running 8 cameras on a 100Mbps PoE switch
100 Mbps / 8 = 12.5 Mbps (max. per Camera, which should be more than enough - Normally an IP-Cam would not give such high streaming rates, but rather in the region of 1 ~ 4 Mbps)

However combining the load of 4 switches would be over 100 Mbps (or very close!). As the price of Gigabit switches is only about double as a 100 Mbps, for 10x the speed - there would be no reason to get a slower one anyway!
If you want to save power, go for a GREEN design - like the ones from D-Link, they are specially designed, to switch inactive channels into standby or off until needed again.
As the GREEN switches, also monitor the distance between points (lengths of cables), it would be good to use shorter cables (under 25m or so) as this will also play a role on how much energy is needed by the switch to operate correctly.

32 IP-Cam Setup (Calculations):
================================

8 IP-Cams at ±4 Mbps would be ±32 Mbps (per PoE switch).
4 switches (with 8 cameras each) would then be 4x 32 Mbps = 128 Mbps. That is 28% over the max. data throughput (without any headroom).
However it would be very easy to connect each PoE switch's uplink port to a Gigabit switch and run at only 12.5% of the load!

When planning a new system, one should leave some capacity for the HD IP-Cams when they are coming to market. Please bear in mind that a HDTV picture has about 5x as much information to transmit compared to a standard TV picture.

RE: Is Your Man Prone to Violence?

I survived domestic violence. My ex husband is diabetic and would often use this as a weapon. He would also threaten suicide and wake me if I went to sleep before him. He would also phone me at work over trivial matters. He, as said in the article, lost patience over the smallest thing. It was when I told him I was divorcing him that he physically attacked me in front of my son. After the divorce and when I was able to eventually get him out of the house he made out that he was the victim and that I had used him and unjustly thrown him out of the house. My true friends stuck by me and saw me through this difficult time along with the local support group for victims of domestic violence and the police were also helpful. Legally, through the courts he managed to get nearly all of the marital possessions and even some of my sons favourite d.v.ds.He made our lives hell for a year. The past three years he has left us alone. It did leave it's mark though, at the begining of my current relationship my boyfriend who I met through this site cancelled 4 dates in a row and well my insecurities saw things that weren't there, that he wasn't really interested etc. He persisted however and knows about my past, he has shown nothing but understanding and is the total opposite of my ex husband. I guess what I'm trying to say is until I met this guy through this site I found it really hard to trust men in a committed relationship. Michael has helped me to trust again in the relationship sense.

RE: How to Dress to Attract a Man: A Guide for Women over 40

Buy classic and age appropriate. Pay attention to fit. It's one thing to show curves or a hint of cleavage, another to don those stretchy lycra things that shape the curves you want and too many of the curves you don't. Buy classic and good quality. That means a basic wardrobe that wears well, and lasts longer without going out of style. Trends can be added with less expensive accessories (jewelry, belts, scarves, etc). Invest in good undergarments that counteract gravity. I'm lucky that I sew, so hemming, subtle alterations etc are fairly quick and easy. Just because we're over 40 doesn't mean we can't look fabulous!

RE: Does Your Computer Have a Virus, a Trojan, or Spyware?

Excellent Article...just missing one thing...
I think that contrary to all the Computer Boffins and Anti Virus Companies denying it....these gremlins are not a creation only made by Computer Hackers and Nerdy/Geeky people determined to create Havoc.

Doesn't it make sense that there are Anti Virus Business's out there creating these things and infecting the net/emails etc...purely for Sales purposes...?
How else can they stay in Business.??

It is high time that the Law Enforcement Authorities and Fraud Squads and other austere Authorities looked seriously at this problem and did some deep undercover, if necessary, investigations.The results should be made Public.

Because it is just not plausible that the "Baddies"out there create these things EVERY few months...
I invite more comment from the Public..as ,"you can fool some of the people some of the time...but not all of the people ALL of the time.!! "

Good tips all! But you're NOT taking my morning cup of coffee away! I'd be lost without it. mumbling

Exercise is probably THE best thing to change about your lifestyle... too many people simply do not MOVE their body's enough! Go walking at a park 3 times a week, go rollerskating or rollerblading (my personal favorite!), but whatever you do MOVE your body! I see so many BBW's online looking for a man that'll accept them as they are, and I always think to myself that they'd be really attractive gals IF they'd just try exercising for 6 months or so... but they don't, and that's that. RE: Do I Need a Webcam?

On a more technical note ... (Part 2/2)
============================

My suggestion is to stay on the IP-Cam side of things, these are the most flexible to use and the cabling is quite easy, as it is normal LAN cable (CAT5e cable, RJ45 connector). The maximum distance to the network (PC or hub, switch) can be up to 100 m away. Power can be provided from an external power source, or over the LAN cable via a special PoE (Power over Ethernet) converter. However you can also buy a switch (data switch, 10/100/1000Mbps) that comes with PoE ports which provide the needed power over the same LAN cable the data is transferred from the camera needing only one single cable to go there.
If you can get a built-in microphone (MIC) or even IR LEDs in your IP-Cam it would be good to get one like that, as it may come in handy when checking in to your home/workplace from basically anywhere and can listen-in, too!

The good thing is that WebCams and IP-Cams are becoming more available and the prices are coming down as the features are going up.
I did not mention, that some Cameras (still cameras and video cameras) have got features to be used as webcams. I would recommend this if you use a WebCam once in a blue moon.

Please make sure to get the correct external housing for cameras if you want to mount them outside - some of them don't like the sun too much and neither the rainwater or snow!!

WOW, just look how long this thing got ...
- Any questions? -

RE: Do I Need a Webcam?

On a more technical note ... (Part1/2)
============================

WebCams come in different flavours and price ranges. So when you go out and buy one there are various things to look out for. Be sure you have an idea what you want to use it for. Don't buy to have one - and then try look where you can use it!

A WebCam does not have to be expensive anymore. Some even on the lower end are now available with a built-in microphone (MIC), that is a good idea, as all signals are going through the USB or LAN cable.

There are actually 4 (or 5?) different types (groups of cameras)
============================================
(1) WebCam - usually working via USB with/without microphone. Cost from about US$ 12 at the entry level. Some WebCams now even come with MOVEMENT DETECTION software, that will start recording when something in the picture (or a pre-selected area is changing) making security work easyer.
(2) IP-Cam - this is a more sophisticated camera making use of a LAN connection instead of USB and normally has more features, sometimes even a built-in webserver and can be connected straight onto your computer network or the Internet. These have their own unique address and more than one can be used through out the network. Prices are normaly higher in the region of about US$ 200. See: Point 5: High speed Dome Cam.
(3) CCTV camera - these have a normal antenna output and are actually to be used on a TV or VCR (video recorder) or DVR (digital video recorder/DVD recorder/PC security system).
(4) SecuriCam (Security Camera, either CCTV cameras or Digital SeciriCam with USB or LAN connections) - which also have Infra Red (IR) LEDs to light up the items to be viewed, even at night in total darkness. The top of the range can reach up to 60 m and more.
(5) High speed Dome Cam - This is the type of camera that is the top of the range IP-Cam that is fully controllable normally with a zoom lense (from 10x up to 30x optical and more). They also have an almost 360° pan and a marginal tilt feature. Meaning they can be remote controlled and can be positioned onto exact targets for security work, line high ways, shopping centres, or in a zoo, etc. The cost can be about US$ 3000 or so.

The cameras in Point 4 and 5 need an antenna input to be connected to a PC or a TV Card. If you can record from an RCA input a VCR (video cassette recorder) can be used to convert the antenna input to RSA out put though.

Another important point to mention here is that CCTV Cameras still all have ANALOGUE outputs (antenna cables {RF} or RCA {LF})! The trend is towards HD-Cams for full HDTV pictures!! Yes, at a price! - but this would mean they will come with HDMI connectors or such like to be able to connect to a HDTV. The only draw-back would be that these cables cannot be too long!

RE: How to Capture and Share a Screen Shot

The fastest way to capture ScreenShots (ScreenDumps) is with IrfanView - a freeware program (for private use) that can view and convert various picture formats, do setup and playback slide shows, upload them to the Internet or burn to CD/DVD, play audio and video files and even do picture manipulations (corrections / edits) as well as conversions from one into another format - even convert all files of a directory if you need to - and rename the filenames, too.
- Too much? - Have a look at: http://irfanview.com (±1.3MB)
(Don't forget the add-ins which allow yo to do even more ... - ±6.8MB)

IrfanView also has a Scanner Feature, that can even number the filenames of your scans. If you have a Multifunction Machine it also allows you to use this via the ADF (automatic document feeder), in colour or black and white.
- Scanning pages of old lever arch files to (black and white) Fax Group 4 format (even up to 600 dpi), gives the smallest format possible for these electronic documents to be preserved on CD/DVD.
Many output formats are selectable.

After downloading and installing the program you can start the program and just type "C" (for Capture) and setup the basics as you prefer it (The capture can even be done with or without the mouse pointer visible in the output. The ideal tool to write up software instructions.).
By selecting the Hotkey you can save the ScreenShot directly to a file on your hard disk drive (in the selected folder, with the filename date and time stamp you like).

Try the program. You will love it. It may take a little getting used to, but if you get stuck read the HELP file! (Press F1).

Scanning trough all pictures in a folder, is a dream - just double click on any file to load (if its filename extension is linked to IrfanView) then turn the mouse wheel back and forth to scroll to the next picture or hit the SPACE or BACKSPACE.
Pressing ENTER switches between command mode and full screen mode!

So far for today ...
... and PLEASE give some FEEDBACK ...

RE: The wonder of Astrology

Astrology is short of one "s" and one "l".

If astrology works, why didn't it predict all the celestial bodies that exist beyond Pluto? Or the outer planets beyond Saturn before we had telescopes? Or the total number of moons of Jupiter and Saturn?

Do fans of astrology want to lend it any credibility? Then make an accurate prediction using it. And by accurate prediction, I mean time, date, day, and exact events that occur, such as:

"The New York Rangers will beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Saturday, April 4, and the first goal of the game will be scored by Ryan Callahan at 3:11 of the first period."

THAT is a prediction, an exact statement of events to come before they happen, not some vague mumbo-jumbo that can apply anywhere to anything or anyone. When astrology fans can make a prediction that accurate, and do it repeatedly, then it will have credibility.

Until then, it's nonsense that deserves to be disparaged.

RE: Fear of Feminism

Fear of feminism...hahaha, you've got to be joking.
As a matter of fact I find it quite hyprocritical, man haters !
The ladies, say they want equal rights to us guys, BUT, don't advocate to help do any of the hard dirty dangerous work, opting for the easy jobs etc.
As far as I am concerned, till as many females have died on the battle field, (and in heavy industry as have men) whilst fighting for the liberties and freedoms we anjoy today, they are not in a position to be demanding any rights.
Lift your act ladies, you are not as important as you mistakenly believe you are.
Get out there and start to get your hands dirty, do your bit, prove your worth.
I don't accept the excuse that females are exempt from any hard physical labour, BECAUSE they think they are not BUILT to do such work, bollocks.
Many males are not big burley six feet tall men, BUT are still expected to do thier fair share of the hard work.
Stop and have a good look around you, every thing you see, the house you live in, the car you drive , every thing, was built through mens hard work, blood sweat and quite often thier deaths, so you could sit here and whinge about having equal rights, feminism, is just another name for bludgers, who want the same pay, rights as men, BUT refuse to put in the hard yards, get over yourselves.
A a business owner, I have made it my policy to never employ females, although, I have interviewed several females, just to make it look like I am doing the right thing, might I avoid getting sued, I have no intentons of employing them.
Another thing, is, why would I want a female, especially of child bearing age working for me?,all the hassle of having to pay them maternity leave and make consessions for them to look after thier kids is not my responsability, I'm in business to make money, NOT to baby sit.
If any thing, I feel it is the men who need equal rights, so as to be able to sit at home, do a bit of house work, laze around, spend some quality time with thier children whilst they are young, and expect thier women to go out to work and be thier mens meal ticket, there is nothing hard about doing house work. I have been washing my own clothes, cooking my own meals,cleaning my house etc. for many years now, as well as holding down fulltime employment, there is nothing HARD about the afore mentioned, compared to my daily job it is a breeze !
I am all for ManPowa, females have had it too easy for too long, they need to wake up to themselves, start to pull thier weight just as much as is expected of us guys.
Have a nice day.teddybear

RE: How to stop comforting yourself with food

Hmm.. alright. Food isn't always bad, if you dont eat you'll gain it all back when you do eat more regularirily again. Sorry bout the spelling. Anyway, now imagine this... You have adema and cant have regular amounts of salt or you'll retain water, you have too low or high of a thyroid gland, and you got hit by a train and gained 60 lbs. in your coma. I have a friend that went through this and her lung callapsed and everything. She used to eat normally but now she eats maybe once daily if that. So never turn towards smoking a ciggarette every time your hungery so you dont munch on something because it's just not worth it. Just know that someday it will all work out and be greatfull that your not on all these different meds and have a thyroid problem with a brain injury and realize how fortunate you truely are.
