Casting spells....real?
About a year ago a friend of mine introduced me to one of his friends. This gentleman approached me first by saying he was a Wiccan. I try not to be a judgemental person and have not heard a lot about Wicca so it really was no big deal. I asked him a little about what exactly that is. He went on to explain that it is scary....to even himself he explains, that he can see spirits and read people. He then asks me if I would like a reading. Thinking that this should be interesting, I agreed. He grabs my hand and sorta rolls his eyes up. Then he precedes to rattle off about five things about me. He was spot on with his analysis. I ended up being rather surprised and thinking to myself, is there really anything to this stuff?
So recently, I decided to do a brief search on Wicca to find out more about this religion. First I heard was it is the fast growing religion in Europe (if I am recalling correctly). Next I hear it is a religion where people do what feels best for them...as long as it harms nobody. Then I heard that "magick" is involved....and most Wiccans are particular with spelling magick with a k. The lady I was listening to said that the magick was to be used for the good. She also said that there is not one particular Wicca religion and means different things to different people.
It is said that Wiccans are able to cast spells. When I was in college, a literature class of mine has us studying Voo Doo in the Caribbean. Also in Voo Doo, it is said that people can cast spells. That is two different religions that believe that spells can be cast.
Is casting spells real?

Derren Brown would be the man to watch to blow away the myths of all this mumbo jumbo.
Its all about perception, suggestion and the Placebo effect Like Itchy said.
"But Where is the harm in superstition" said the witch at the Salem trials.
You said it yourself, the mind is powerful. Just how powerful is the question....powerful enough to cast spells?
Now about your readings.
That gets me through life just fine
You bring up a great point, one that is very difficult to argue. If spells were true, I would imagine that the government would figure out some way or the other on how to weaponize it.
Could spells and remote viewing be part of the same supernatural experience. I know in the '60's there were a few governments that tried remote viewing. It is reported that some success did come from this remote viewing program.
In addition, if ordinary humans can perform such supernatural acts, would the government want to allow that information to leave their hands? It would empower the seemingly weak.
have you tried fishnets down at the docs
Have you turned into an alcoholic lately?
Interesting....if one is not in their sober mind, can they be more susceptible to supernatural occurrences?
BTW Robert, where I live now, there is a local gas station that has wonderful burgers.
I had to fight some unusual force in order to return here. I seen your presence and my will to overcome the spell was easily out powered.
Just joking I don't have a twin brother, just couldn't resist.
I don't believe anyone has the power to cast spells, just my opinion.
I will have to check out Brown as well. I have some things to check out a bit. The power of suggestion is a real thing for sure...maybe that is all it is. It would be difficult to prove otherwise though.
I seen where you need fishing lessons and you already have the fish nets. I think you are well on your way. Now, for the lure.
I don´t know. Not sure about if the definition suits what most of us understand as "Casting Spells", but I know "I do certain things" I can´t explain from a rational perspective, hence: why could others do other stuff?.
I´m afraid I can only provide more doubts.
Have a look into Kabbalah (well if you already did Wicca LOL) ...just for educational purposes ;)
Perhaps we only believe what is in line with our perspectives of our lives and with what fits in on how we live it?
...the path of least resistance for us.
The world is a big place, the brain is a big place. There is much we don't know about either.
That seems to be the common sentiment here.
Maybe to believe is tied into one's environment and how they were raised.
But, how does one explain the fastest growing religion...Wicca?
Maybe the Harry Potter movie/book series?
I think that since many people have moved on from the established religions, they are not happy with the total lack of spirituality in the nothingness. So Wicca could be seen as an alternative to the established religions, spirituality without the hierarchy
I agree with the open mind way of being.
A closed mind can close many doors.
If there is something sort of unknown, for me, it leads me down a path of curiosity, without any preconceived notions.
...or something else pershaps...
...or one of a gazillion other reasons?
It´s all about biology and how men & women are sensory wired (nothing romantic with that....just science) ....yes, there are also people who is more perceptive than others (usually people who works with arts ...no matter their gender) ....and finally we have people which brains are wired in a very unique way.
What we have and what we do with whatever we have. No more mysteries for me but ...sometimes, wild things happen and people try to find a logical explanation without success, it remains a mystery ...and here we are.
I´m open to consider anything as possible, believe it? hmmmm that´s tough ;)
Thanks for this blog, I had a good time reading it
They vary in different parts of the world from being individualistic beliefs to systems where beliefs are imposed upon them.
When people bow out of the imposition-type systems, they ofte search for one in which they can express their own - often with like-minded people,
I agree with your post and thank you for sharing. :)
If none of this religious stuff is real, that would then offer the assumption that people from day one has had this obsession with deceiving themselves.
Which, I really find hard to believe.
But, it is said the number one liar to us are ourselves.
Like the Placebo effect!
People are naturally both curious and also needed, especially in the past, to make sense of things that didn't make sense.
For them in the past, it would have been natural disasters; weather phenomena, etc.
If you can't explain it rationally, and you need an explanation, then blaming it on the supernatural always works
A great additional explanation. And, it adds additional support to the fact that religion has been around for a long time...and for why?
Is it possible that during ancient times...and perhaps into the present...there have been visits to this planet and the people on it? Hence, these visits has allowed us humans to develop "religious beliefs."
Science cannot explain the nature of spells and magic(k).
As well as, science cannot explain a lot of physical things that exist on this planet from ancient times.
A lot of what you say about being dark and dangerous, holds true to what I have been hearing from areas I have looked at about these certain religions. Although, Wiccans claim to use their supernatural powers for the good.
Thank you. :)
We know so little... Our minds and our knowledge are so limited.
Maybe there are realms that exist parallel with ours or even at the same time and place, but on another 'frequency' and we know nothing about them as well as they know nothing about us. Who knows what kind of creatures live in our universe... Or in parallel universes... There are so many possibilities... If you keep your mind open - you might imagine so many of them.
It's the same with 'God'. Humans try to understand 'God', but how can the creation understand its creator? And then - being unable to understand - human mind simplifies or discards the idea altogether.
These are all very very complex topics we can talk about for days and days. I don't even want to start!
Some religions incorporate spells in their religion. So, are spells real?
....otherwise, why incorporate them?
Very good points. Some say we are products of evolution, while others believe we are products of intelligent design.
We only know and see what we are suppose to. I believe anyway. :)
That is a good way of looking at it. A great comparison.
(Women are more natural when it comes to magic and witchcraft. )
I hope we continue this interesting topic once I come back from the break.
