Well, B, it is a problem. As I just said, their challenge to understand and treat mental problems makes it tough for psychiatrists. And they can help some folks. in limited fashions. But except perhaps for the most severely afflicted, many alternative exist, and often work reasonably well, in the hands of talented and caring practitioners.
Yep, JJ. In "physical" Western medicine, things are complicated enough, but at least with some things, results of various treatments are often of help. The human mind, even at basic levels, let alone those of consciousness and self awareness, is much more complicated than complaints purely (mostly) physical. It's all certainly worthy of formal study, but perhaps more than any other branch of medicine, requires extreme humility when treatments are suggested, as my blog shows.
LJ, and all. I visit all kinds of religious houses, but tend to feel better about some types more than others. My longest sojourn, apart from disastrous Catholic altar boy years, was at a weekly Friends' meeting, where almost nothing was ever said.
Yes, usha, generational differences exist as well. I was married that early, and happily, we were too young and had no kids. Simple divorce. Our twins came in their Mom and my late fourties----better in every possible way, but we all still make mistakes sometimes as parents. Both of our girls are decent human beings. Grateful.
Congrats, usha, one hopes. Our 21 YO girls and friends are in NO hurry to have things we couldn't wait for. Marriage and driver's licenses are two. Not complaining, mind you.
Usha, congrats, one hopes. Perhaps cultural differences come into play here, but my 21 year old girls and most of their friends are in no hurry at all for things we couldn't wait for. A driver's license and marriage are two. Not complaining, mind you.
Yep, LL, W. We exclusively non educated (sic) white males. Next time add in a few more envy soaked, hate speech filled adjectives, such as elderly, European, wealthy, straight and the usual list from the bitter unloved female left. And add me--- two valid non-mail order university earned doctorates, four languages, Portuguese next,--- yep, a knuckle dragging/Constitution loving lot, we Trumpsters. Not at all like the lofty academic heights of a nursie degree. Pathetic, but not significant. Often heard in hospital/clinic cafeterias, where some gather to cackle.
Yep, those coddled so called civil servants, JN. Statism think, writ large. In the dreaded private sector, real productive workers might be told when made redundant just that--- perhaps to borrow or otherwise make due. But when you can't be fired without interventions from the Gods, are some of the tiny minority of hirees who still have generous defined pension/lifetime healthcare plans, and in recent years have begun to earn more on average than the rest of us---well you sort of cop a sense of swampacious entitlement. And who knew, that the fake news biased media would salivate to run with any such advice? Glad you a good/interesting vacation, and welcome back.
Actually, all---same swamp with oodles of human detritus. But a Ledbelly number "Borgeois Blues" Never mix memory based discography with incipiant dementia.
Ya better come in, my kitchen. Cause it's goina be rainin' outdoors. And just by virtue of a little BTW, OD, check out his cover of " It's a borgeous town"---refering of course to the Swamp.
Great blog and lists, W. Of course, with few truly evil-sociopathic types (many on your lists) excepted, there is good and bad in most of us. I should know. But try not to lose sight of the fact that our beloved Country and precious (and much copied) Federal Constitution are still the envy of billions. Our wall is to keep out the criminal illegals. Lots of walls elsewhere serve to keep folks in.
Yes, Biff. Valid thoughts. I think many things go into the live apart /item style you mention. Many find it an easier arrangement in latter years, after the compulsions of younger life are behind us. Yet, our twins' generation seems to be gravitating toward what you describe. Lots more emphasis on group activities, rather than the somewhat restrictive dating scene many of us enjoyed (?endured). But I think pickiness operates in some of us, to our great loss. Many live by the mantra "pick me, pick me!"---all the while defending against reasonal possibilities. Present company excluded, of course.
Life, LJ, yep. Even if you've been born to loving and grounded parents, haven't experienced too much adversity as you grow up, live in a country with adequately enlightened government, are blessed with some intelligence and the absence of major predispositions to illnesses----there's the ever present free will. This probably let's as many of us down as it helps, on balance. So with humility, enjoy the good times, and with strength and courage, plow through the not so good. Try not to complain, or to explain. And when in doubt, err on the side of kindness and open mindedness.
Yep. Reports are that in her past, to have her way with powerful men, she was a star with red knees. Doesn't seem to work with our brilliant Presidant. And speaking of those knes, she'd have had much more luck with Clinton.
Portuguese chorizo or linguica. In equal amounts with the cheeses. Have the TUMS and proton pump inhibitors in reserve. And the preparation H, if there's need to get to the bottom of things. Like the ladies from the Azores and mainland. Once you've had a few, hard to put them down.
Yes, W. When someone like NP rises so high with so little cerebral horsepower, I always look for the red knees. And while accidents tragically do occur, Two sayings concerning home self defense come to mind. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. And when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. But both concepts seem challenging for those with severe Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Western Psychiatry.....
Yep, all, western medicine has its place. But often gentler and more effective remedies work.
